Foot-stomping good time in Centreville Bigger crowds take in annual Grand Old Jamboree BY ASHLEY ESPINOZA Staff Reporter

Attendance increased by the hundreds this year for the Newburgh-Camden Lions Club fifth annual Grand Old Enterprise Country Jamboree. The event took place at the Centreville Fairgrounds on the weekend with headliners Ronnie Prophet and Glory-Anne performing Saturday evening. “There’s more camping trailers, more people, and we keep changing our entertainers. That’s key; they don’t want to keep coming back to see the same people,” said Vic Smith, of the Newburgh-Camden Lions Club and Grand Old Enterprise Country Jamboree organizing committee. Other entertainers included Lisa Hart, Steve Piticco, Freeman Daigle, Joe Saunders, Chuck Daoust, Dieter Boehme, Chester McCann, Ernie Smith, Dallas Daisey, Randy Arney,

Ron Clark, The Frizzells, Blaine Henshaw, Angie Austin, Abby Stewart, and others. This year Smith estimated more than 700 people attended the jamboree, up from 500 last year. On top of that, about 200 trailers camped at the event for the weekend, compared to just 60 last year. “We cater more to the older people because there’s a real need for it and they really love it, they travel from one jamboree to the other,” said Smith, stating why he thinks the jamboree has grown so much over the past five years. The Grand Old Enterprise Country Jamboree first began as a monthly concert series, which later evolved into a weekend getaway in Centreville. “That’s how we started this big jamboree. We have monthly smaller ones in Enterprise, we start it in October and we finish in May. We have youth competitions now too,” said Smith.

Lisa Hart and Dieter Boehme, pictured above, performed at the fifth annual Grand Old Enterprise Country Jamboree on the weekend. The Jamboree is organized by the Newburgh-Camden Lions Club and takes place at the Centreville Fairgrounds each summer. He said he predicts the show will continue to grow and expand each year. Campers travelled from Oshawa, Peterborough, Bancroft, Pembroke, Ottawa, Perth and Kingston to stay all weekend and enjoy country music. Many locals from across Lennox and Addington County, Greater Napanee and surrounding areas also drove to the event each day. Lions Club members from Sydenham and Sharbot Lake help the Newburgh-Camden Lions Club put on the Grand Old Enterprise Country Jamboree each year. This year’s jamboree draw winner was Peggy Hall, who won a Martin guitar. Silent auctions and other ticket draws were also held during the event.
