Dr. Debbi Hannan Certified by Institute of Functional Medicine

n May of this year, Debbi Hannan, a doctor of chiropractic, completed certification training and graduated from the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM). She joins an elite group of 124 practitioners, who are among the first graduates of IFM’s Certification Program. She also holds an MS in Nutrtion. Hannan’s passion for health and wellness has been the driving force in her 29 years of service as the clinic director of Chiropractic Health Center & Holistic Wellness Services in Metairie. Having completed the program, she is one Dr. Debbi Hannan of only a few who are uniquely trained in the functional medicine model to identify and treat the root causes of chronic disease. IFM is a nonprofit institution, founded in 1991 with a mission “to serve the highest of individual health through the widespread adoption of functional medicine as the standard of care.” The stated goal of the IFM’s Functional Medicine Certification Program is to deepen and broaden the expertise and knowledge base of clinicians in the principles and practice of functional medicine. Achieving certification requires completion of seven advanced practice courses and passing a stringent written test and case study evaluations. Individuals qualified to apply for the certification program must hold a healthcare degree from an accredited medical, osteopathic, chiropractic, physician assistant, nursing, dentistry, naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, pharmacy or nutrition program in the United States and Canada or equivalent programs from other countries. Community Greens Celebrates

une marked the official opening of Community Greens, the commercial complex at Washington Avenue and Broad Street in New Orleans, that transformed blighted buildings into vibrant office spaces that house socially and environmentally responsible organizations. Moreover, the development of four buildings, parking lots and a courtyeard was designed and built using green building best practices. Green Coast Enterprises, the company behind the project, brought the idea to fruition with the help of many partners, including Capital Link; ASK Partnership; FirstNBC Bank; the Isaiah Fund of Bend the Arc, a Jewish Fund for Justice; the Louisiana Office of Community Development, Disaster Recovery Unit; NCB Capital Impact; the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority; federal and state historic tax credits and HUD tax credits. A grand opening on June 12 celebrated the completion of the last building, which is to serve as a community health center. The unveiling of this renovation took place with the backdrop of the tenants already established in the other three buildings, including a social innovation incubator, restaurants, offices and retail. The project aims to help grow the economy and revitalize the area, which once was a vital commercial corridor.
