About Srishti Magazine The Srishti magazine is published annually, usually in may, by the nanma malayalee cultural association, bangalore. Since 2014, the magazine has been a trusted companion to our malayalee friends who take writing seriously. within its pages, you will find articles, poem, short story, recipe, events, experiences etc. written by our esteemed members residing in vbhc-vaibhava, anekal. The magazine also reports the activities of nanma during the year.

The magazine is delivered free to almost 1500 residents of vbhc, anekal, and also circulated to our well-wishers in bangalore and neighbouring cities.

we now present you with the 2019 issue of Srishti. we have highlighted the activities of nanma for the year 2018-2019. we have got some writeup from our dear residents whom i would call ‘passionate writers’ for their creative skills with pen and paper. i am surprised to get a writeup from a young boy, adrian aju abraham. adrian is not only active with his friends during evening play but also very good at storytelling. may you inspire other kids to write. our good friend neeraj has captured the scenic beauty of Sikkim through his travelogue writing and also ensured that our fate and luck do well in his horoscope prediction “raashiphalam” for 2019. we have not missed out the recipes, and we thank the homemakers for their mouthwatering recipes contributed to this issue. we have added some useful information, and hope it will be helpful in your day to day affairs.

Dear Friends, Namaskaram!

Once Mahatma Gandhi quoted “The best way to find yourself, is to lose yourself in the service of others.”

From my association with NANMA Malayalee Cultural Associationfor the last 6 years, I have understood every alphabet of Mahatma’s quote. I found in me a better Coordinator as our friends were able to pull up double-digit events for the past 3 consecutive years.

I unearthed myself as a better problem solver as we marched over the hurdles to achieve our common goal. I discovered the lost childhood in me as we organized numerous activities under the banner of Knowledge Club. The youth in me made a majestic entrance as I danced for the first time in my life through NANMA ABCD team, and the zeal continues with energetic Zumba dance.

The caring and compassionate part of me was identified as we were able to coordinate and provide helping hands for the flood victims of Kerala and the underprivileged children through NANMA Charity.

My eco-responsibility sprouted as we planted saplings to make cooler earth.

The rebounding spirit of mine was uncovered as we conducted the NANMA Carnival to compensate for the loss of Onam 2018. Lastly, the most important part of my life -My Smile, kept on regenerating from the very day I met each one of you. My tenure as the President of NANMA would have been impossible if your love and support was not there. Each one of you filled my heart with the passion and love to serve betterfor the society.

Our dreams of celebrating Onam and Christmas in a better way at VBHC, the classical and western dance training sessions for our children, Zumba fitness classes for our adults, were achieved as our organization grew from a handful of families to 120+ families.

Our wish of making the young generations sharper, stronger, and socially responsible was paved by the foundation of Knowledge Club, Sports Club and Charity. The message of nanma(goodness) and the creative talent of our members are becoming popular as we publish Srishti for the fourth consecutive year.

As I step down from the post of the President of NANMA Malayalee Cultural Association, I would like to thank each one of you, the founding members of NANMA, the Executive Team Members, our Sponsors and my family for enabling me to serve you during my tenure. My thanks to the previous editor Mr. Bevin Sousheel and the current editor Mr. Sree Kumar for their continuous effort to bring Srishti on time. My thanks to Mr Jolly our previous designer who spent sleepless night to ensure that the creativity is at its best. Not to forget our marketing team Mr. Pradeep and Mr. Adrian who ensured availability of funds for all our activites.

Looking back, the journey NANMA took last year were very exciting and extremely satisfying. One of our important decisions at the beginning of the year 2018 was to step into more meaningful activities. Therefore, our focus was on our children's talent, sports, humanitarian and social activities apart from our Cultural events.

Dear Friends, Namaskaram !

While I prepare to write a report on our activities for the year 2018-19, the first thought that came into my mind was a famous quote from Abraham Lincon “You cannot escape from the responsibility of tomorrow, by evading it today.” This is what has been the practice of our Executive Team from the day one.

The formation of various sub-committees for the above activities was a major step in fulfilling our objective. 'NANMA Knowledge Club' - focusing children; 'NANMA Charity' - for the poor and needy; 'NANMA Sports' - for health and recreational activities; our magazine ‘Srishti' and 'NANMA Cultural' - for various cultural events.

Cultural EventActivities: 'NANMA Carnival', celebrating Christmas and New year, was our major cultural event last year.

Knowledge ClubActivities: 'School Kit' presented to the school going children of our members, Quiz competition, Drawing competition, Movie Show, Fusion & Classical Dance classes were the result of the initiatives taken by 'Knowledge Club' team.

Sports Activities: Conducted Cricket tournament, Badminton tournament, Carrom & Chess competitions.

Charity Activities: School kit distribution to the poor children of our nearby schools and orphanages; clothes distribution; active involvement in the Kerala Flood Relief & Rehabilitation; were the contributions of our Charity Team.

Other significant programs included Iftar, releasing Magazine Srishti & Women's Day celebration.

We believe that our Cultural events were as entertaining as they were in previous years. So are our new initiatives which we began in 2018.

There are lots of preparations & hard work going into each of these events and reminiscing everyone for their efforts & support, with gratitude. To keep doing so many programs, and to do it successfully, year after year is a challenging task. It demands an organised and systematic approach.

NANMA’s vision is to have a community of Malayalees in VBHC, stay united, the welfare of our members, celebrate festivals, to love & care our children, and to remain committed to our society and environment.

Our admirable Patron & President lead our Executive Committee. It's their talent, new ideas, hard work, commitment and dedication that make our preparations and execution look delightful and straightforward. The General Body Meeting and the frequent Executive Committee meetings are conducted to monitor the progress of our major events and ensure better result.Our strength and motivationare our members. We ensure involvement & participation of every family members in all these events. Our sincere gratitude to all our friends in VBHC for their continued support to NANMA. Your encouragement, participation andfeedbackplay a major role in conducting these events successfully.

The activities in the year 2018-2019 focused on charity, the social responsibility and knowledge building for our children. For children, we have conducted numerous activities starting with the school kit distribution for our children and, to the less privileged children located at southern Bengaluru. Inter-school drawing competitions, indoor games and quiz competitions were conducted during the year. To enhance their performing skills, we have initiated classes for classic & fusion dances and karate too. We were also fortunate to conduct two movie shows for entertaining and de-stressing our children.

Being a responsible citizen and care towards the society, we as a team NANMA initiated a massive relief work movement along with the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation’s during the Kerala floods. The support is to ensure that the flood relief material reach to the rightly deserved population of Kerala from the entire south Bangalore region. Blood donations, emergency support for our members, wheel chair availability on requirement, and cloth donation to orphanages etc. continued this year with increase in the effectiveness and coverage compared to previous year.

We had cancelled our flagship event Onam due to Kerala floods, however our other festival celebrations continued. We celebrated Iftar and visited each and every house with Santa to announce arrival of Christmas and New Year celebration. We organized Christmas Carnival and New Year celebration with great pomp and splendor at VBHC to entertain and motivate our members to display their skills and provide a platform for their growth. The final Programme of the past financial year was Women’s day celebration and Annual General Body Meeting.

All this was possible because of your support. I express my sincere thank to each one of you for providing us an opportunity to serve and meet your expectations. I hope with your continuous support and passion we as a team can do better in all our activities and spread the message of NANMAthe Goodness.

Yes; 2018 was a memorable one for NANMA. Trust me, the year 2019 will be even more exciting.

1. nAnMA charity donAtE A school Kit nanma started charity activities in december 2017 by donating clothes to the poor and needy. This activity has been continuing since then. The support we received and the smile of our less fortunate fellow brothers and sisters encourage us to do more such activities and help others the best way we can. during the school opening time, we find many poor children around us who cannot afford to buy their basic school stationery. ‘donate a School kit’ is an initiative we planned to support poor children and give them a helping hand. a school kit donation drive at yoga centre and the main part entrance were held on June 2 & June 03, 2018 to receive the donations. below is the list of items we received from the residents of vbhc who donated generously.

Tiffin box The kits collected were distributed to the students/children on 30/6/2018 and 01/07/2018 at Government School, marsur and Sri Shreyas old age home and charitable Trust, magadi main road. a group of nanma members visited both the places and handed over the school kits and groceries. The malayalam newspaper mathrubhumi reported the event on 01/07/2018.

thE KErAlA Floods The calamity: an unprecedented calamity struck kerala between June 1 – august 16 2018. The state of kerala received a cumulative rainfall of 2227.26 mm, projecting an excess of 37% rainfall last monsoon. it has been an extraordinary monsoon for the people of kerala.

The rains:The southwest monsoon, which usually begins in the last week of may or first week of June every year, unleashed floods and landslides in the state, the magnitude of which was rarely being observed recently. around 12 districts of kerala were affected. The hilly areas of idukki and wayanad have more casualties due to multiple landslides.

The opening of the dams and reservoirs:37 dams and reservoirs were opened to drain out the excess water from the catchment areas, some releasing lakhs of litres of water into the Periyar river which remained swollen. while the dams and reservoirs were constructed to store water for irrigation and to generate electricity for the state of kerala, some of them were opened for the first time in 25 years.

The Flood: This combination of persistent rainfall and release of thousands of cumec of water into the Periyar and chalkudyrivers from dams and reservoirs resulted in flooding of the low-lying areas. The authorities have no other option but to release the water at regular intervals from the dams at the catchment areas.

The water levels were rising to the highest storage value. help from armed Forces: even though the district administrations relaid adequate warnings to those residing in river banks, however, some were reluctant to move out to the shelter homes setup for the purpose. more than 200 people were killed, and many were rendered homeless or their homes submerged in water. The army, air Force, navy, coast Guard, Fire Force and national disaster response Force (ndrF) had to be called and were engaged in relief efforts in the state. navy is involved in rescuing those from stranded and swollen areas.

The armed forces serviced the low-lying regions of districts like ernakulam, kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur and kannur.

People stranded on higher floors of their homes and apartments were airlifted with the help of the air Force. ndrF teams were involved in evacuating those residing in landslip-prone areas.

Transport Services:The transportation services were severely affected. The cochin international airport, a pivotal point for air travellers in central kerala, was closed after parts of the airport were flooded. The Thiruvananthapuram and kozhikode airports, however, handled most of the fights in the state.

The train services were affected for a few days due to water logging in the railway tracks. The major roads and highways in ernakulam have been flooded. The streams connecting the river Periyar led to flooding of water on the streets.

Shelter homes:Since the rivers were overflowing many had to be evacuated and sheltered in the relief camps set up by the Government and nGos. The shelter camps were set up mostly at government schools, colleges, anagwadis, churches and auditorium. The local private organisations and panchayats were supplying essential food items and water to the relief camps. relief materials started pouring in from neighbouring states with basic facilities like water, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, mats etc. clothing items were also distributed from the relief camps until the government officials formally made sure that the homes are rid of water and pests. nAnMA help: we at nanma believe in helping humanity at times of need. nanma charity aims to provide support and assistance to the poor and needy. our beloved member mr Jitesh ambady, on behalf of team nanma, took the initiative to help the needy during the kerala Flood crisis. Jitesh formed a group of individuals across various cities in kerala and bangalore for mobilising the relief materials received. Jitesh also contacted the head office of kerala road Transport corporation (kSrTc) to

2. nAnMA sPorts cArroM And chEss carrom and chess competition was organised on 9 September 2018 at 2:30 pm, venue yoga centre. The residents of vbhc-vaibhava took an active part in the the competition.

There were around 80 participants for carrom and chess competitions. The following winners were awarded:

utilise kSrTc bangalore plying buses for transporting the relief materials to kerala. The kSrTc team agreed, and daily the relief materials were dispatched in the buses.

collecting relief materials: The team nanma had set a camp at vbhc to collect materials for the flood-affected districts in kerala. our vbhc residents contributed generously. The relief materials were then segregated according to the items and then sent through kSrTc buses. The relief materials were also received from other neighbouring apartments, from employees working in various oďŹƒces in and around bangalore. we also received relief materials from our nearby schools. all the relief materials collected were segregated item wise and then repacked to be despatched through the kSrTc buses.

materials received: The materialscollected were rice, pulses, bleaching powder, towels, toothpaste, sanitary pad, lungi, shawl, carpet, mosquito mat etc. etc. materials worth of 54 lakhs were sent to kerala to help the needy.

A few passionate members of NANMA created a FIFA World Cup WhatsApp group and enrolled like-minded members for football discussion, predictions and analysis among the members. Daily winning forecasts started on the day of the World Cup Round stages. From Quarter Final onwards, there were prizes for accurate predictions and total points accumulated for predicting the matches.

The first semifinal matches witnessed a nail-biting finish with the team Thunders Vs. Dream Catchers. Dream Catchers won the match in Super Overs to reach the final. The second semifinal was played with the team Kalinga Warriors and the team Spartan.

Kalinga Warriors overpowered Spartan to reach the finals.

Spartan Kalinga Warriors The final match was played for 8 overs with team Dream Catchers winning the toss and elected to field. The Kalinga Warriors put up a score of 97 in 8 overs. The team did a good planning to put up this massive total with Mr. Ashish scoring 55 runs. The Dream Catchers started off well however failed to keep their wickets intact and were defeated by 14 runs.

The Kalinga Warriors emerged as winners for their hard work in bowling and fielding.

Badminton Tournament A Badminton Tournament was organized on 4 November 2018 as a part of NANMA Sports initiative. The tournament was for both Men and Women and mode of the tournament was Doubles for Men and Singles for Ladies.

For Gents Doubles, the final was played between team Suraj & Sajith and Amal & Sajin. Team Suraj & Sajith won the finals. For Ladies, the final was played between Anitha & Majima and Mrs. Anitha won the Ladies Single Final.

3. NANMA FESTIVAL CELEBRATION IFTAR The common practice during Ramzan is fasting from dawn to dusk. The pre-dawn meal before the fast is called the suhur, while the meal at sunset that breaks the fast is the iftar. We celebrated Ramzan for the second consecutive year at VBHC by arranging IFTAR party on June 9, 2018, at 6:30 pm, Block 22 - 703. To break the fast dates, fruits, juice, snacks and tea were served to our Muslim brothers and the guests. Dinner was organized for the evening and around 100 NANMA Malayalee’s attended the dinner party.

NANMA Fitness Health is wealth. With this motto we started Fitness Class. It’s a dance-cum-fitness class. The classes are held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We have MrJinoop as our instructor. At present there are 8 members enrolled in the Fitness program.

NANMA CARNIVAL – CHRISTMAS and NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS Santa Visit December 16, 2018 at 3:30 pm The NANMA Christmas teams visited the residents of VBHC to share Christmas wishes with Santa Claus. The residents were surprised and children overjoyed by Santa visit and many took selfies with Santa.The Santa distributed the chocolates to the residents and their children. The NANMA Carnival 2019 notice was distributed to the residents asking them to join or participate in the cultural activities to be held on January 4 - 5, 2019.

Carnival The Christmas and New Year Celebration was organized on January 5 - 6 ,2019, for the residents of VBHC. These two days

witnessed various cultural events performed by the residents of VBHC. January 5 2019 was the day of Christmas celebration. The event began with the Cake baking competition. We had three participations and all three were declared winners of the competition. Mr. Sudipta Ray Chaudhuri, Executive Sous Chef at Zuri Hotels & Resorts was our judge for the event. A fancy dress was organized where in our young children participated.

A lucky dip was organized and the Santa distributed the gifts.

Our Santa for the day was MrShaji, resident of VBHC. A group sang Carol and entertained the audiences. This was followed

by Western Dance, Solo Dance, Singing, Group Dance, Classical Dance etc all of which was done by our residents and their children. The day ended with DJ music at night which was enjoyed by all the residents.

On January 6 2019 we celebrated the New Year Day. The event began with the Tug of War between 6 teams.

The evening cultural event began with a prayer song followed

by Western and Classical songs sung by your residents. The classical dance by Mrs Sowmya was appreciated by one and all.

More dances, western and classical, were held during the night.

A felicitation programme was conducted for the Kerala Road Transport Corporation for their support during the Kerala floods in transferring the donated materials received by NANMA. A memento was given to those who were involved. The event concluded with a Harivarasanam performance by Aishwarya Jayesh and team, bommanahalli.

The Gbm and the women’s day celebration was held on march 9, 2019, Saturday, at vbhc community hall, at 4:00 pm. on march 8, 2019, the members visited other members house and wished all the women members on occasion and invited them for the women’s day celebration and the General body meeting. a game of musical chair for the women members was organised. around 18 members participated, and mrs anjana Suraj won the final round. mrs. anjana Suraj and the children present there were asked to cut the celebration cake.

The meeting started at 6:00 pm with a silent prayer.

The Secretary, mr. viswas, welcomed our beloved Patron mr. Sankara Subramaniam, President mr. Jins aravind and all the other members. The Secretary wished our women members on occasion of women’s day. The President mentioned the importance of a women member in our day to day busy life and their constant support to make our life healthy and beautiful.

The Secretary read out the annual report and major events conducted by nanma during the year. The other committee members - charity, Sports, knowledge club and magazine committee were invited to give their reports and updates on

cinematic contemporary dance classes are conducted for the young masters in vbhc. The classes are held on all days except wednesday and conducted by mr. Jinup, dance instructor and choreographer for ‘manavalans’ (d for dance Tv show fame). around 19 students have joined the dance class.

The President spoke about the events conducted during the year and thanked all the members for their support and active participation in the events. The Secretary made an announcement for the new committee selection and thanked the outgoing executive members for their contributions.

The President spoke about his resignation from the existing post and suggested the next President’s name as per bye-law.

The vice President, mr. baiju spoke about his experience and the reason for not continuing. The new committee was selected from the members present in the Gbm. The Secretary and the President invited the members to fill the vacant positions. Six members came forward to fill the vacant positions.

The Gbm and women’s day celebration ended with the dinner arranged at the venue.

The team knowledge club conducted an internal Quiz programme for our kids on 9 February 2019. There were 11 teams with 2 members in each team. The participants were children of age below ten years. There were 7 rounds with 11 questions in each round. The team answering the questions were given 10 points. The team answering the “pass” questions were given an additional 5 points to their credit. Team d won the first prize, Team J won the 2nd Prize,and Team h won the 3rd price. our Quiz master was mr Ganesh Shankaran. The anchors for the evening were msmanjima and ms arya.

The ingredients 1.

300 grams boneless chicken

2.

1 cup onion finely chopped

3.

1 tsp chopped garlic

4.

½ tsp chopped ginger

5.

2 Tbsp nicely chopped Coriander leaves

6.

½ tsp chilly powder ( according to your taste)

7.

Salt as needed

8.

½ tsp garam masala ,1/2 tsp pepper powder

9.

¼ tsp turmeric powder

10. ½ tsp chicken masala 11. 2 medium size potato 12. 2 slices of bread 13. One tsp Lemon juice 14. Oil as required ( 3 tbsp oil for pan frying, or more if shallow frying)- any veg oil 15. Bread crumbs – spread in a plate and keep 16. Egg while – 3 egg’s- beat nicely with fork and keep aside

Delicious, crispy chicken cutlets can be made using boneless chicken or keema, which is available in almost all super msarkets:

Preparation Boil potato in a cooker (2 whistles) and keep it in a drainer to make it dry. Boil chicken in a pot with item 6 to 10 in little water until completely cooked. Please be careful to use less water In a frying pan, sauté item 2 to 5 in 2tbsn oil for ten minutes and keep aside.

Nicely smash the potato removing the skin, make sure no pieces involved. Mix the boiled chicken along with the sautéed items in a mixi to mix well for one minute then put in a vessel along with the smashed potato, mix nicely, add two pieces of bread slices removing the edges mix nicely ( to make it more dry).Add little salt to taste and the lemon juice, make medium size balls .

Make them in to round shape or oval shape and keep in a plate.

Heat oil for shallow frying , first dip in the egg white then in the bread crumbs , then drop the cutlet in oil , shallow fry them until they turn golden red from both sides. Take them out once ready and place on a tissue paper. Very tasty and crispy cutlets ready to serve as snacks with tomato ketch up.

It offers online course and certification in various topics across engineering discipline.

Chocolate cake

(WITHOUT OVEN)

while it is easy to prepare cooker cake recipe, but still some precautionary steps have to be taken while preparing pressure cooker cake. Firstly, never use water while preparing or baking cake in cooker. it has to be dry heat without any moisture and hence use salt or sand as a base to cooker. lastly, maintain a 1 cm gap between the cooker and baking tray while placing inside the cooker and maintain the temperature in cooker by heating in a low to medium flame.

ingrEdiEnts 1 cup 397 gm milkmaid / condensed milk ¼ cup oil 1 tsp vanilla extract / vanilla essence ¼ cup milk, warm 1 tsp vinegar 1 cup 180gm maida / plain flour / refined flour 2 tbsp 15gm cocoa powder

For bAKing in cooKEr: 1½ cup salt or sand

instructions 1.

Firstly, in a pressure cooker add 1½ cup of salt and place a cooker rack or any cup.

2. close the lid of cooker without keeping the gasket and whistle.

3. heat for 5 to 10 minutes. as a result, gives a preheat oven atmosphere.

4. meanwhile beat 1 cup milkmaid, ¼ cup oil, ¼ cup milk, 1 tsp vanilla extract and 1 tsp vinegar in a large mixing bowl.

5. now in a sieve take 1 cup maida, 2 tbsp cocoa powder, ¼ tsp baking soda, ½ tsp baking powder and pinch of salt.

Sieve everything well.

6. combine well with cut and fold method adding warm milk if required.

7. do not over mix the cake batter as it turns chewy.

8. Further, transfer the cake batter into the cake mould (width: 15 cm, height: 6 cm, length: 17 cm).

9. Then carefully place the cake tray into the cooker.

10. close the lid of cooker without gasket and whistle. Simmer for 40 minutes.

11. Finally, serve the eggless chocolate cake prepared in pressure cooker or store in airtight container.

SIKKIM

The land of organic farming nEErAJ PAnicKEr Sikkim, the isolated state in the eastern part of our nation, shares its borders with nepal in the west, bhutan in the east and china in the north is a lone traveller’s heaven. The state covered with deciduous forests and high altitude himalayan grasslands.

Sikkim is home to a peace-loving and warm welcoming group of individuals whose primary source of income is from agriculture, livestock and tourism.

The entire state is divided into four districts; north, east, South and west Sikkim. The north Sikkim district covers almost half of the total available land area and filled with rocky and snowy terrains. Travelling 20 km takes one hour ride in Suv. The north Sikkim is the place where the young blood prefers for adventure sports — known for the knee kissing steep climbs while trekking in snow will pump adrenaline through the remotest part of your body. a lot of buddhist monasteries are also available in this district but being a rocky terrain and since our vacation duration was minimal, we chose to restrict ourselves to east, South and west Sikkim. our 4-day trip started at 3:00 am from vbhc in march 2018.

Through connecting flights, we finally reached bagdogra airport at 11:00 am. we were a team of 8 members. The bagdogra airport resembled a railway station. The airport is a tabletop airport where the temperature was around 30 degree celsius; ironically we were surrounded by tea plantations in all directions. we waited for 30 minutes for the tempo traveller.

Finally, the driver came rushing, and the first thing we asked him was to take us to a good hotel. our base camp at Gangtok was 6 hours drive from the airport. The driver after an hour stopped at a bengali hotel (dhaba). The hotel run by four women served excellent bengali 4 course meal (both veg/non-veg option were available). at the hotel, a single lady managed the entire guests (roughly 30~35 in numbers). The heavy lunch made me sleep for 3 hours, and by the time i opened my eyes, we were near

Sikkim border. The first stop was near the Teesta river which was light blue in colour. The river gave us company till Gangtok.

Since Sikkim being a hill station, the roads are very narrow & sharp at Gangtok. To improve the per capita income and tourism, the state government formulated a rule to use only the Sikkim registration yellow board vehicles inside the state. any car above the Suv category is not allowed in the city premises. we stayed in a newly built hotel having a scenic view of the valley & the snowcapped mountains. we wish we had planned our trip in autumn. as usual, evening time is for local sightseeing. we walked to the busiest street of Gangtok which is the mahatma Gandhi marg.

The 2 kilometre stretch of paved and decorated road with shops on either side on top of a hill and that too without any automobiles is a marvelous in itself.

This is the right place for

honeymooners where they can roam around having all desi food varieties and do a lot of shopping. The shops can be classified into four categories- modern branded stores ( less than 10%), souvenir shops (around 20 %), tea products stores ( approx. 30%) and hotels. all varieties of traditional Tibetian food like tentup, tenthuk, momos and all varieties fried bajjis are available in plenty. if we do not comment on tea, the entire trip is a waste. There are tea shops which give you more than 300 varieties of tea. you will need a year to taste all these variants, and the cost of some will make you sell your hard earned house for buying. Finally, after roaming around for 2 hours and identifying the shops-souvenirs & rates, we tried the traditional Tibetan food- tentup, tenthuk, tenthudka, tsmpa, butter tea, gyatop, laping, etc and went for bed. all these were having the look of soup might be because dry food becomes colder rapidly when compared to liquid soup like dishes. dAY 2: The next day, we started at 6:00 am to nathu la pass where we share our border with china. The entire travel was through curlier roads which are curlier than the Premam movie fame anupama. after travelling for 2 hours, we stopped for leaking out on the roadside in a state which is 100% open defecation free since 2008. while performing the task, many of us noticed the melting away of the grass-covered rocks where we stood. it was nothing else than the Permafrost –icy soil covered with vegetation that melts in contact with the hot surface. it had a crystalline structure which resembles the beads of a pearl necklace. Then we started playing around with the unsoiled permafrost until the driver asked us to get inside the vehicle. The entire roads were built by bro and being a military zone we were not allowed to park the cars on the roadsides.

Forty minutes from there, we reached the Tsmogo(meaning head of the river) lake. Spread around 60 acres at an altitude of 12,313 feet, the entire lake fills your heart with peace and a state where anxiety is overcome by wonder. The buddhists worships the lake, and it is considered auspicious. no one is allowed to step into the lake, and the monks predict nature by analysing its colours. 30 minutes from there, we reached the nathula pass(we couldn’t make to the Zero point as the permission was given only for 50 vehicles per day). we were welcomed by the bofors gunshots from the army for the de-icing of the hilltops.

This is a routine exercise to prevent avalanche at high altitudes. a tiny township is there at nathula which is an acclimatisation zone for kailash manasarovar yatra at 14,140 feet above mSl. The places to visit are war memorial, war museums, baba harbhajan Temple. The temperature was minus 5 degree celsius, and heavy snowfall started as soon as we reached the baba temple. Thanks to the rented out snowshoes and thermal jackets we hired midway. The dry fruits given by army at the baba(in memorial of indian Soldier harbhajan Singh- who was an indo-Sino war hero) temple gave us the energy to fight cold.

Playing ice cricket, snow angel, ice jumping, buttock skiing, we spend almost 3 hours at nathula and then started our descent. For the adventurists & honeymoon guys who want to experience the chillness of himalayas, there are hotels at Zuluk which is very near to nathula. Three hours at sub-zero made our body to lose heat rapidly, and we were shivering. The hot momos and black tea from nathula tasted like nectar bringing us back to life. enroute to base camp, we stopped multiple times to have momos, tea & desi daaru(a different version of arrack). Twilight was made for brisk walk around the museums and tourist spots at Gangtok. at night, we again went to the mG marg to close all our to-do lists. The sleep fairy blessed us immediately on that night. dAY 3: next day we started our trip at 7:00 am to peiling enroute one of the biggest buddhist monastery- Tathagata Sthal- the buddhist park of ravangla. The entire monastery is built around a temple with of 130metres tall buddha statutes.

The monastery was well maintained with flowery plants, cut to length bush, multiple fountains and soothing buddhist music. hot battura was served at the monastery at a decent price. a trip from ravangla to kanchenjunga falls was horrible. There was no road at all! after off-roading of 2 hours, we came to a narrow road covered with a steep valley on either side. Twenty minutes from this steep road, we reached kanchenjunga falls which are very very small when compared with our athirapilli falls. after having momos & tea from the streetside shops, we then left for Pemayangtse Gompa monastery. This was nothing when compared with Tathagata Sthal. at 6:00 pm we went to our hotel at peiling which was 30 minutes of drive. we had a beautiful night at the hotel, with wide varieties of dishes, relaxing spa and facility for having a campfire. The team enjoyed the icy night to its fullest. day 4: next day we started for bagdogra to catch our return flight. on the way, we got many opportunities to have a look at the mighty himalayan ranges including the mount kanchenjunga! all of us were sad for shortening the trip to 4 days as there were many more places to visit like darjeeling, kanchenjunga national park etc. and a majority of us took an oath to visit Sikkim once again with family. Sikkim is a truly relaxing spot for an escape from the busy city life.

16-20 Oreo Cookies

1/2 Cup Milk

•

4 Tablespoons Granulated sugar

Grease round banking pan(i have used 2 inches deep and 6 inches in diameter pan) and line up with parchment paper .

1 Teaspoon Baking Powder

2.

•

1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

remove out the whistle and gasket of pressure cooker. add about 1/2 cup salt in pressure cooker.

•

1 Tablespoon Butter to grease pan

3.

Grind oreo cookies to fine powder.

4.

Take the oreo powder out in a mixing bowl, and add in sugar, milk, baking powder and baking soda.

5.

mix properly and pour the batter in greased baking pan.

6.

add around 1/2 cup of salt in pressure cooker. close the lid of pressure cooker and on high heat, heat it for about 5-6 minutes (remove whistle and gasket.)

7.

remove out the cover and carefully place the baking pan. cover and cook on very low heat for about 25-30 minutes.

The time depends upon the baking pan material you use and also the size of the pan. So please check your cake in between by opening the cooker and poking it with toothpick. if the toothpick comes out clean, that means the cake is baked.

remove it out and let it cool completely . Then you can either frost it or enjoy as is.

Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana

W

ith a view to achieve the objective of making available quality generic medicines at affordable prices to all, ‘Jan Aushadhi Scheme’ was launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizes, Government of India in November 2008 across the country. In September 2015, the ‘Jan Aushadhi Scheme’ was revamped as ‘Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana’ (PMJAY). To give impetus to the scheme and for greater outreach, the scheme was again renamed as ‘Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadi Pariyojana’ (PMBJP) in December 2016.

The predecessor to Jan Aushadhi Yojna in India is Neethi Medical Store. It was started by the Kerala State Co-operatives Consumers‟ Federation Ltd through the help of Government of Kerala on 1st November 1998. Under this scheme, medicines are made available to the consumers at a price less by 18 to 40% of the MRP. After the success of the Neeti Stores the Jan Aushadhi Scheme was conceptualized. It is the project of Central Government for providing unbranded generic medicines at reasonable prices.

Salient features of the PMJAY •

Ensure access to quality medicines for all sections of the population especially for the poort and the deprived ones.

Extend coverage of quality generic medicines so as to reduce and thereby redefine the unit cost of treatment per person. Quality procurement through WHO-GMP and CPSUs manufactures and each batch is released only after clearance from NABL labs.

•

Create awareness about generic medicines through education and publicity to counter the perception that quality is synonymous with high price.

•

Be a public programme involving Government, PSUs,

Create demand for Generic Medicines by improving access to better healthcare through low treatment cost and easy availability wherever needed in all therapeutic categories.

Generate employment by engaging individual entrepreneurs in opening of Jan Aushadi Kendras.

JAS are aimed to be started across the country. The ordinary functioning time of JAS is 8 Am to 8 PM. It is proposed that all therapeutic medicines to be made available at JAS. To improve the viability they are permitted to sell allied health products which are commonly sold in medical stores. Initially government had identified 504 essential medicines, including antibiotics, painkillers and vitamins, to be made available in JAS. These medicines are used in treatment of cardiovascular, respiratory, diabetes and gastroenterology diseases. Government also aimed at establishing at least one Jan Aushadhi store in each of the 630 districts of the country. To further the scheme Government has tied up with some NGOs, Trusts and societies like PCI, CNRI, Shree Tapovan Vikas Trust, Indian Red Cross Society, Lions Club, IMA, Vignan Bharathi, Bharat Sevak Samaj, etc 6. A National Toll free helpline 1800-180-8080 has also been launched for propagation of information Jan Aushadhi.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Initiated by the Government of Indian, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a scheme for affordable housing provided to the urban poor implemented during 2015 - 2022. This scheme is converged with other schemes to ensure the houses have a toilet, electricity, LPG gas connection, access to drinking water and Jan Shan banking facilities.

A beneficiary family will comprise of husband, wife, unmarried sons and unmarried daughters. The beneficiary family should not own a pucca house either in his/her name or in the name of any member of his/her family in any part of India to be eligible to receive central assistance under the mission. The beneficiary age is a maximum of 70 years. The Economic Weaker Section annual income should be less than three lakhs, and for the Lower Income Group, annual income should be between 4 – 6 lakhs. The houses given under this scheme will be owned by females or jointly with the males.

Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the government will provide an interest subsidy of 6.5% on housing loans availed by the beneficiaries for 20 years under credit link subsidy scheme from the start of a loan. The houses will be constructed through a technology that is eco-friendly and preference will be given to differently abled and older persons. The Government has earmarked land meant for the purpose and have identifies 2508 cities and towns in 26 states for beginning construction of houses for urban poor.

There will be a separate mandate for each policy.

all nach mandate forms submitted by customers at the lic office ( both for new business and PS alteration cases) will be sent to lic’s nach “Sponsor bank” for scanning .

Sponsor bank will upload the scanned images on the nPci platform.

The customer’s bank will validate the credentials from the details entered by the customer from the image with the details in the database of the bank.

6.

Policy holder should ensure that sufficient funds are available in the bank account at the time of debit date and mandate is not dishonored

7.

This facility of easy premium payment can be availed of not only in respect of the policies of self but also on the policies effected on the lives of the close relatives like spouse and dependent children (i.e.) the relatives on whom policies the policyholder can claim i.T. relief for the payment of premium.

The cheque or the demand draft should be drawn favoring “lic of india, Pol no. XXXXX” on the face of the instrument in case of a singlecheque.

For multiple policies, one single cheque may be usedand one policy number is to be written on the face of the instrument and other numbers may be written on the reverse of the cheque.

nAch Payment Method national automated clearing house (nach) is anelectronic fund clearing platform set up by the national Payments corporation of india (nPci). This is similar to ecS of rbi.This is a facility by which premium is deducted by bank at pre-decided date and remitted to lic.lic of india has migrated all its existing policies registered under the ecS mode of premium deductions to nach mode with effect from november 09, 2016. nach mode can be opted for all non-uliP, in-force policies any time after completion of policy. at this stage any mode (yly, hly, Qly) also can be opted.nach mode of payment can be opted for uliP policies including health insurance policies also.The debit dates allowed are 7th, 15th, 22nd and 28th of the month. (both at nb & PS Stage) and complete grace period too may not be available.

This facility is absolutely free for all customers. no charges are to be paid to lic / bank for this facility.

To avail this facility 1.

customer has to register his policies through the bank website. registration data as per the required format/ mandate from the bank is to be submitted to the bank.

bank sends the registration data for all the policies newly registered on next working day to Pcmc in required format.

3.

Policies with ordinary mode of payment i.e. yearly, halfyearly and Quarterly mode of payment are allowed under this scheme.

4.

Policies with mly ordinary and SSS mode are not allowed under this scheme. Policy should be in-force at the time of registration. uliP policies and health plans are not allowed under this scheme.
