For TV set owners this means if they renew their licenses before 31 October 2015, they will NOT incur any penalties for the renewal period 2015/16. “As from 1 November this year penalties will be charged on a monthly basis,” cautioned Frieda Kutara, Supervisor TV License Operations. “A TV licence is valid for a period of 12 months for existing sets. This means that all TV licenses of existing sets expired on 30 September 2015.” The current fee is N$204.00 per annum per TV set for a household/private person, N$60.00 per annum per TV set for a pensioner/a disabled person/war veteran (i.e. a war veteran who has NO employment), N$220.00 per annum per TV set for any business (including private & public schools, government departments, clinics & hospitals, bars, shebeens, etc.), N$440.00 per annum per demonstration set for a furniture retailer/dealer/TV repair company/company hiring out TV sets and certain category fees for accommodation establishments like lodges, hotels, Bed & Breakfasts, etc. “Any person who has outstanding debt should contact the nbc offices immediately,” Kutara explained. “The customer will be provided the opportunity of entering into an agreement with the corporation to settle the outstanding debt on an instalment basis.” Once this agreement has been reached by both parties, the customer can settle his/her debt by making use of the following payment methods: cash, bank guaranteed cheques, EFT and direct deposits.
