Oom Callies' Yellow Ball Competition We have held the always popular three ball alliance yellow ball competition, which is more affectionately known as Oom Callies' Yellow Ball Competition, and it was our pleasure to have Oom Callie with us and say a few words at the prize giving.

The Namibian Kickboxing team, who participated in the 12 African Karate and Martial Arts Championships from 25-29 April 2018 in Botswana scooped 13 Gold, 9 Silver and 7 Bronze medals. The competition catered for Karate – (General, Traditional, Koshiki and Knockdown) Kung Fu. (Hard and Soft forms and Sparring) Kickboxing (Point and Continuous) and Grappling. This was the first time that a competition like this hosted all martial arts participating together. Great for the unity and development of the martial arts of the martial artist. The president of the Namibian Kickboxing Federation Anita De Klerk said, “It was the first ever attendance from Namibia in this championship. It was an all-platform, multi-disciplined martial arts tournament held on the African continent with five countries in attendance. The Namibian National team did exceptionally well and the team's display of fighting was of a very high standard”. The Namibian coach, Sensei Martin Gunter said, “the quality and standard of the Namibian fighters are on a good track, and we are more than ready for any international competition. The hard training of all our fighters paid off in all ways and we set the bar high for other countries”. The President of the United African Karate Federation (UAKF) Imtiaz Abdulla said, “We want to have a world movement of participation. Developing karate-ka will also open entries in all divisions and all forms, starting from twelve African Karate and Martial Arts Championships, we are encouraging organisations to work together and unite and develop jointly. This discrimination in calling organizations 'dissident', because you don't want them to exist is not healthy for karate and the martial arts. We come from the same source, and we are all taking the same journey to the top of the mountain, the route may be different but the goal is the same. We ask all karate-ka and martial artist to embrace this new and open understanding and encourage you to join this movement.” Imtiaz Abdulla further mentioned that the twelve African Karate and Martial Arts Championships in Botswana, was an historic event as it was the first time ever in Africa that all forms of Martial Arts were fighting against each other in one place.
Zone 6 President, Mr. Thuto Thuto says that he is satisfied with the competition hosted in Botswana. The standard of all fighters is remarkable, and that the Martial Arts in Africa can compete at world level, and can bring Medals back to Africa. Botswana was honoured to be the host of this historic event. Thuto thanked all the countries part of this. The Namibian fighters who stood their ground were Giano Alcock, Oshidoshi Delano Müller, Sensei Lesley Hoaeb and Xanthe Snyman as they all won two Gold medals. The youngest competitor, Raymundo Bowe had it very tough as he had to compete against competitors with more experience. He managed to scoop a Bronze medal and received a special recognition as the youngest competitor. The other medal winners were: Anco Snyman Gold and Silver, Darren Nell Gold and Silver, Dawn Spangenberg Gold and Silver, Mia Kittler Gold and Silver, Sensei Martin Gunther Two Silver, Rohan Kotze only Bronze, Hugo Jones only Bronze, James-Dean Goagoseb Gold and Bronze, Jan Willem van Zyl Gold and Bronze, Llewellyn de Jager Silver and Bronze, Stephanie Schoonbee Silver and Bronze. Imtiaz Abdulla UAKF President extends an invitation to the Namibian Kickboxing Federation to host the African Continental Games in 2020. The President of the NKF said that they accept the invitation, but still need to consult with the Namibian Sport Commission before a final answer can be conveyed. The President and all the fighters would like to thank the Municipality of Walvis Bay for the sport bags, also they would like to give thanks to Mandi van der Lith for the Westmed sport bags, and to Dr Leonie van Zyl for the Medical Kit. Gratitude to all our parents who made the trip possible. Big thanks to all the private businesses and people who sponsored individual fighters and made it possible for them to travel and compete. The next competitions will be the Desert Storm in September this year and the Zone Six Championships next year in South Africa.
A magnificent field of fifty four players turned up, including a few from over the river – Rossmund, nice to have you guys visit. Even Willie Pens showed, but poor golf saw him and team leave early. Twenty seven holes on any given day is a challenge, but three scores with a yellow ball in the last nine is a real game breaker for a good few of us, and so it proved. Winners on the day with a record of 228 points were Pieter van Aarde, Francois Champion and Luandre Duvenhage. Second place on a distant 210 points, went to the junior team of Emile Vilbert Jnr, Willie Coetzee and Jonathon Mather. Third place went to Wouter van Wijk, Wayne Hart and Kurt Brits at 207 points. Fourth place at 202 points was won by Potch Alchin, Leroy Rentzke and Chris Bothma. There were three lucky draws, and closest to the pins in two on the par fours were won by Carlos de Gouveia and Francois Champion. Thanks to Herman Smidt, Andre Burger and Grant Mather for their contributions towards the prizes, with the club topping up the balance. I think the real winners on the day, were the guys who took the beers of Wayne, Kurt and Wouter, but that is another story. Thanks to Oom Callie, Callie Jnr and Quinton for the traditional 'bell' after the event. We look forward to the May Day next year. We also wish Oom callie a happy 80th birthday today, 2 May. Mag Oom Callie lank gespaar word met goeie gesondheid. Last week Saturday was a hidden format competition and it was won by David Peake and Elton Rentzke on 77 points with Chris and Estelle Bothma [drawn together] coming in second on 72 and winning the count out. Third place went to Boel Grobelaar and Heinie Franken. Two clubs were recorded by Leroy, Kurt and Gert Jnr twice. The jackpot was not won. The calendar for the next few weeks is as follows 5/5 Club Competition 12/5 Angolink and it will be special from Morne 19/5 Piscs Medal Fri 25th Nine hole club practice from 13h00, there will be a few small prizes Sat 26th we take on Tsumeb here at home.
