Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) Centro de Artes Escénicas de Santa Clarita (PAC)

T

he Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) at College of the Canyons fulfills an important civic function in provi­ ding 187,000 community residents with a venue in which to nurture a wide variety of performing arts. Last year, more than 60,000 visitors came through the PAC’s doors to attend concerts, plays, special events, community engagements and educational programs in the spectacular 926-seat proscenium theater. The PAC’s mission is to build a loyal audience by developing multicultural performances and corresponding educational workshops.

The PAC opened its doors in the summer of 2004 and the 47,000-square-foot facility quickly emerged as the cultural center of the community. As the only large performing arts venue within the Santa Clarita Valley, PAC staff and college administrators work closely with the City of Santa Clarita’s Arts & Events Office, local arts organizations, community members and school districts to ensure that the facility is doing all that it can to support arts development in the area. The PAC annually books diverse, world-class artists and also serves as a performance venue for the college’s Music, Thea­ tre and Dance departments as well as for many local arts groups.

The PAC also spearheads a valley-wide effort to bring arts education outreach to a broad cross section of the community.

In 2007, the PAC identified a need to expand programming to reach broader audiences and more diverse populations as well as to provide more opportunities for its community’s youth. To further these efforts, the college hired new Managing Director, Adam Philipson, whose experience includes the creation of the 541-seat Broad Stage in Santa Monica, the production of several new works, and the creation of an opera camp in partnership with the Los Angeles Opera. Under Philipson’s direction, the PAC has greatly expanded its outreach programs and looked for innovative ways to cultivate appreciation of the performing arts, and make the performing arts a vital and integral part of Santa Clarita life, for all residents.

El Centro de Artes Escénicas de Santa Clarita (PAC, por sus siglas en inglés) en el Colegio Universitario “College of the Canyons” cumple una función cívica importante en proporcionar a 187,000 residentes comunitarios un escenario en el cual se cultiva una amplia gama de artes escénicas. El año pasado más de 60,000 visitantes cruzaron las puertas del PAC para asistir a conciertos, puestas en escena, eventos especiales, compromisos comunitarios y programas educativos en el espectacular teatro de 926 asientos. La misión del PAC es construir un público leal a través del desarrollo de representaciones multiculturales y talleres educativos correspondientes.

El PAC abrió sus puertas en el verano de 2004 y las instalaciones de alrededor de 14,300 m2 rápidamente emergieron como el centro cultural de la comunidad. To broaden and diversify audiences by offering relevant programming, the PAC received a grant from the James Irvine Foundation to support an expanded outreach effort to attract Latinos and Spanish-speaking populations in Santa Clarita, both within the PAC and through community partnerships. In 2009, the PAC presented a performance by three-time Grammy Award-winning Latin roots rock band, Los Lobos, preceded by a free workshop at the Santa Clarita Community Center. The public was invited to learn about ‘son jarocho’ music. That partnership with the City of Santa Clarita also included the presentation of In The Ring, which last year presented ‘Alma de Mexico’ and this year’s In the Ring II, which will bring the talents of Jose Luis Orozco to the Center.

This year the PAC has continued to present diverse performers, staging Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano during the Christmas holidays; the Peking Acrobats; and, in May of 2011, will be welco­ ming Ballet Folklórico ‘Quetzalli’ de Veracruz. This professional dance company is celebrating its 25th anniversary and is helping to inspire multicultural awareness within the north Los Angeles County community while fostering an appreciation for its members’ Mexican heritage.

“What we want to do at the PAC is to continue to make it the cultural address of the Santa Clarita Valley,” said Philipson. “We are creating connections between artists and their art, the community, and education. We want the Santa Clarita Valley to see the PAC as its cultural arts home.”

En 2007, el PAC identificó la necesidad de expandir la programa­ ción para alcanzar a públicos más amplios y poblaciones más diversas, así como también para proporcionar más oportunidades a la juventud de su comunidad. n January 06, 1975, Jerry Brown was sworn in as Governor of the State of California for the first time. He was 36 years old, the sixth youngest person to serve as Governor in California, succeeding the popular two-term governor, Ronald Reagan.

On election day, Edmund G. ‘Jerry’ Brown defeated his opponent, Republican candidate Houston Flournoy, 50 to 47 percent. The remaining 3 percent of votes were cast for the Peace and Freedom Party, and the American Independent Party.

Jerry Brown’s education was varied. He graduated from Catholic high school and attended Santa Clara University. He spent some time in Jesuit Seminary studying to become a priest, but had a different calling. He left the seminary to enroll UC Berkeley. Brown then completed his formal education at Yale law school.

After graduating from Yale Law School in 1964, Brown returned to California and passed the bar. In 1970, after serving for a year on the board, he ran for and was elected California’s Secretary of State.

POLITICS • POLÍTICA Celebridad del Pop y Ambiciones Nacionales Pop Celebrity and National Ambitions Upon election to the governorship in 1974, Jerry Brown eschewed the trappings of the high office, foregoing the mansion and chauffeured limo for a rented apartment and a Plymouth Satellite. He became nationally famous in a uniquely California way by dating and being seen with Hollywood celebrities (he was a boyfriend of Linda Ronstadt), and he even had the moniker, ‘Governor Moonbeam’, bestowed upon him by the national press.

Social and Cultural changes have swept through society, and fads have come and gone during the years Jerry Brown served in office. In the eight years Brown was Governor, America and the world experienced Hippies, War Protests, Disco, Marshmallow Shoes, Puka Shells, Psychoactive Drugs, Bruce Springsteen, Squeaky Fromme, The American Bicentennial, The Ramones, Sun Myung Moon, Ted Bundy, Democracy in Spain, The Ayatollah, Ronald Reagan, Dim Sum, Hippies becoming Yuppies, and on and on and on.

In 1976 and again in 1980, Brown entered the presidential primaries. In 1976 he finished third at the nominating convention behind Jimmy Carter and Morris Udall. In 1980, he finished with the support of only a single state, Michigan. He ran for US Senate in 1982, but was defeated by then Mayor of San Diego, Pete Wilson.

Now, at 72, and as the oldest sitting governor in the country, Jerry Brown must use all his experience and guile to deal with California’s gaping budget deficit of 25.4 billion dollars. California’s economic machine is huge, estimated to be 1.8 trillion dollars. France’s 2.16 trillion dollar economy is ranked ninth in the world, while California’s economy, by comparison, would be 10th in size, larger than the next two countries of Italy and Mexico, estimated to have 1.78 and 1.56 trillion dollar economies, respectively.

To offset the budget’s revenue shortfall, Brown has proposed a combination of tax increases and spending cuts. His years of experience will be called upon to lead seemingly disparate groups of legislators to some

sort of compromise on the issue. Unpopular cuts in Education, Welfare and Healthcare spending are included in the proposed budget, along with equally unpopular increases in Income, Sales and Vehicle taxes and the ending of Enterprise Zones in depressed urban areas.

Whether the legislature responds and passes the proposed budget is the big question, and there will certainly be heated debates in Sacramento over the next few months. The Helping Hand Liberals, the Teacher’s Unions and Education Community, the Social Engineers, the Small Government Libertarians and the anti-tax Tea Party all have dogs in the fight.

None may want to compromise, but all must – for the good of the state.

Belt Tightening In the short run, the Citizens of California will receive less of big government in the form of fewer and limited services, higher tuitions, and higher taxes. Living in California is already expensive and will be more so in the future. A general downward pressure on wages and increases in the costs of state services combined with higher taxes will pressure the middle classes like never before.

Brown faces an enormous challenge in getting all involved to recognize the severity of the budget shortfall. He will be forced to collect his political favors, schmooze like he’s never done before and if necessary, play a game of political smash-mouth to get the members of the legislature’s right and left, and the state’s citizenry on the same page.

Which Legacy?

With a balanced budget, California will be on track to recover, grow and thrive over time, leading the country into a hopeful future, and Jerry Brown will be able to move into his next incarnation, political or other, being remembered as the guy who helped deliver the goods.

Probablemente ninguno querrá comprometerse, pero todos deberán hacerlo por el bien del estado.

Apretando el cinturón A corto plazo, los ciudadanos de California recibirán menos por parte del gobierno en forma de menores y limitados servicios, así como aumentos en colegiaturas y mayores impuestos. Vivir en California ya es más caro que en otros estados y lo será aún más en el futuro. Una baja general en los salarios y el aumento en los costos de los servicios estatales, en combinación con el alza a los impuestos harán mucho mas fuerte la presión hacia la clase media como nunca antes se había visto.

Brown se enfrenta a un enorme reto al querer lograr que todos los involucrados reconozcan la gravedad de la falta de presupuesto. Se verá obligado a cobrar sus favores políticos, cortejar para su beneficio como nunca había hecho antes y si es necesario, hacer el juego político de callar bocas, para conseguir que los legisladores de la derecha e izquierda así como la ciudadanía del estado compartan la misma visión. ¿Cuál será su legado?

The book: shape and transformation El Libro: Forma y Transformación / Del monotipo al píxel

A

s knowledge is released and scattered, culture spreads thanks to Johannes Gutenberg’s creation, who finished printing his first work in 1456. It was considered a masterpiece of the new art of printing and publishing, this work was structured by almost five million types melted for 20 issues on parchment, plus 120 on paper; fewer than 50 are preserved.

It is the masterpiece: The 42-line Bible (most frequent number of lines per column on each of the 1280 pages), Latin version of Saint Jerome’s Writings.

The history of success of the print-letter marketing started in 1467, when Johann Fust and Peter Schöffer published a translation of Saint Augustine’s The Art of Preaching. The first one was a lender and Gutenberg’s partner; the second was Fust’s nephew and pupil in the workshop of the press creator. The fame of Gutenberg’s partner and pupil was due to innovations applied to the new technology of communication: The book.

In 1467, Schöffer and Fust not only did compete to publish new titles, but they also tried to devise new ways of reading books leading to slogans, such as “Better organized indices” or “Cross referen­ ces”. These phrases could be from a 21st-century article: “Our books are not only informational, but they also are easy to use.” The same rivalry is currently being experienced among the Kindle, iPad, Nook and some others, which are trying to reinvent the reading tools and techniques.

In 2010, another big step was taken in reading technology, started by the Amazon’s Kindle and the Apple’s iPad, followed by other devices which are as innovative as the ones aforementioned that have been able to claim a market share, like the Barnes and Noble’s Nook. There are other devices from brands like Sony or Sharper Image, but for the purposes of this analysis, we will focus on the 3 most outstanding so far.

Amazon’s Kindle: This device is lighter and has the advantage that after being the pioneer. It has been able to create a very extensive database of publications and readers and its main feature is the use of e-ink, i.e., electronic ink, peculiarity that, unlike other devices, from cell phones to reading tablets that require lightning in the base, the Amazon’s Kindle does not since the texts are displayed on a surface mimic­king paper; therefore, one can read them under direct sunlight, without missing any contrast. The greatest disad­van­tage is that e-ink is only black and white; thus, the display of photographs or video clips is not optimal.

Actualmente se está dando la misma competencia entre Kindle, iPad, Nook y otros más, que buscan reinventar las herramientas y técnicas de lectura.

En el 2010 se dio otro gran paso en la tecnología de la lectura, comenzando por Kindle de Amazon y iPad de Apple, seguido por otros dispositivos igualmente innovadores que han alcanzado a reclamar parte del mercado, como la Nook de Barnes and Noble.

Existen otros dispositivos de marcas como Sony o Sharper Image, pero para efectos de este análisis, nos enfocaremos en los 3 más destacados hasta el momento.

Kindle de Amazon: Este dispositivo es muy ligero y tiene la ventaja de que al haber sido el pionero ha logrado crear una extensísima base de datos de publicaciones y lectores, su principal distintivo es el uso de e-ink, tinta electrónica, singularidad que, a diferencia de los demás dispositivos, desde teléfonos celulares hasta tabletas

Apple’s iPad: iPad, rather than a reading tablet, is a versatile app device, where we can read books, magazines or newspapers. It allows browsing the Internet with certain constraints and there are different versions that adapt to various budgets, mainly ranging from memory cap­acity to network connection. The iPad offers bright and well-defined colors, although its main complaint among the people who are looking for an electronic book is its size and weight, albeit being a device smaller than a laptop, as a book it can result in something annoying while carrying it everywhere, but due to the amount of existing apps for this device, the iPad can be placed some levels over its competitors.

Barnes and Noble’s Nook: Selected as the device of the year, despite the iPad, the Nook offers through the so-called “Android” operating system a similar experience with vivid colors, well-defined graphics, and an increasing range of apps at a price quite lower than the one offered by its closest competitor. Barnes and Noble also offers free access to the whole collection when the user utilizes their device inside BN’s stores. It also gives the possibility at the same time to ‘lend’ purchased books to other Nook users.

Throughout 2011, we will see more innovations from both these pro­ducts and new competitors who break into the e-readers market and as Schöffer and Fust facilitated the technology for reading in 1467, big corporations give us more and better tools nowadays to enjoy a good book while checking e-mail and seeing the latest news at the other side of the planet through the inventiveness of geniuses and visionaries.

A Healthy Skin Gets Little Credit as a Vital Organ Consejos para el Cuidado de la Piel

ealthy skin contributes to the body’s defense against microorganisms. It provides a shield against sunlight, and it can absorb or repel different substances. The skin also helps to regulate body temperature and puts us in contact with our environment, so it’s very important to take care of it. Here are some tips to keep your skin healthy.

• Keep your skin Clean. It is recommended your wash your face in the morning and before bed. It’s preferable to use a mild soap, thereby avoiding possible infections, and simple cleansing allows your skin to breathe.

• Restrict exposure to the sun. To help prevent premature aging and the appearance of spots, and in some extreme cases skin cancer, avoid direct sunlight. The sun’s ultraviolet rays can be very harmful, creating cellular damage. Apply sunscreen when going out, especially in the summer.

• Water is essential to hydrate the skin. Your body uses it’s water to hydrate the skin, and it’s recommended you drink 6-8 glasses a day.

• Maintain a healthy diet that includes fruits and vegetables containing Vitamin C (collagen production), Beta Carotene (maintenance of skin tissues), Vitamin E (skin conditioning). Vitamin B (skin repair) should be kept.

• Quit smoking cigarettes. It is advisable to stop smoking, as tobacco may cause wrinkles and blemishes. If you just can’t quit smoking, eat more of the vital nutrients listed and use products that rejuvenate the skin. Alcohol and coffee should be consumed in moderation, as both dehydrate the skin.

• Exercise improves circulation, renewing the skin from the inside out.

Exercise also helps reduce stress. Walking, running, jogging or a simple exercise routine can have the desired effect on your skin and overall health.

• Sleep well to maintain the freshness of the skin. When we sleep the skin repairs its cells. When we lack sufficient sleep, the skin looks tired and lifeless. There is truth in the term ‘Beauty Sleep’.

• Avoid excess stress. Stress may lead to a number of skin issues including acne, blemishes and premature aging. Employ one or more of the many known relaxation techniques available. Yoga, deep breathing, meditation, and maintaining a positive attitude are all ways to relax.

• Excessive use of cosmetics may have an adverse effect on your skin.

Many cosmetics contain a few chemicals that can cause skin allergies.

La piel contribuye a la defensa de microorganismos, de los rayos solares, y a través de ella se pueden absorber diferentes sustancias; así mismo regula la temperatura del cuerpo y nos pone en contacto con el ambiente, por eso es sumamente importante cuidarla. Aqui te presentamos algunos consejos para mantener tu piel siempre sana.

• Es muy importante mantenerla limpia. Además de ser una forma fácil de cuidarla, se recomienda lavar la cara por la mañana y antes de dormir, para que la piel respire, de preferencia con jabón neutro, de esta manera se evitan infecciones.

• Restringir la exposición al sol es muy importante para evitar el envejecimiento prematuro así como la aparición de manchas y en algunos casos extremos el cancer de piel. Se debe evitar el sol directo ya que los rayos ultravioletas pueden ser muy dañinos, se debe utilizar protector solar, principalemente en el verano.

• Es sumamente indispensable tomar mucha agua para hidratar la piel desde adentro (se recomiendan 6-8 vasos al día). Asi mismo se necesita llevar una dieta saludable que incluya frutas y verduras que contengan los principales nutrientes de la piel: Vitamina C (Producción de Colageno), Beta-Carotina(Mantenimiento de los tejidos cutáneos), Vitamina E (Acondicionamiento de la Piel). Vitamina B (Reparación de la Piel).

• Nada afecta la piel mas que el cigarro. Es recomendable dejar de fumar ya que el tabaco ocasiona que las arrugas y manchas encuentren asilo en la piel. En caso de no poder evitarlo es necesario ingerir mayor cantidad de los nutrientes vitales y utilizar productos que desintoxifiquen la piel. Es recomendable tener cuidado con las cantidades de alcohol y café que se consumen. Ambos deshidratan la piel, ingeridos con moderación no causan un daño grande.

• El ejercicio ayuda a mejorar la circulación, asi como a renovar la piel de adentro hacia afuera. También ayuda a reducir el estrés . ¿Qué clase de ejercicios? Caminar, correr, trotar o alguna rutina sencilla de ejercicios puede tener el efecto deseado en tu piel.

• Para mantener la lozanía de la piel, es muy importante dormir bien.

Al dormir la piel repara sus células. Cuando no se duerme lo suficiente la piel luce cansada y sin vida.

• Hay que evitar el estrés ya que puede causar desde acne, manchas y envejecimiento prematuro. Existen muchas técnicas para relajarse. Se recomienda hacer Yoga o ejercicios sencillos de respiración y meditación, asi como mantener una actitud positiva.

ime has passed, ideals are still strong as are memories and that bright picture being extended from San Diego, from the skies of the country that embraced her in the San Fernando Valley, to the mind of the young walker and mountain climber; it was the farewell of the turned-into-woman Peruvian girl... She is walking her way step by step to transform it in the successful career that demands from her to overcome, day by day, huge challenges in order to be palpable as benefits to her loved ones.

Patricia Gracia, from Peruvian origin, entered the United States via the Tijuana, Mexico border. She got to California when being 18 years old, her immigrating situation and the language barrier construct on her an unshakeable character and turned her into a lonely fighter of great courage. It is possible to summarize her career of success in: a Latin-origin woman, illegal, student, worker, fighter; winner; but no, Patricia Gracia does know that every step is indispensable and punctually demands her time and effort toll, thus, in less than one year she had a command of the language, enrolled to college where we can highlight that work was not an impediment for her to progress. She finished her program with excellent grades in the Los Angeles Valley College, was a practitioner in toplevel institutions/companies that sponsored her studies in UCLA, graduated in Public Relations and after finishing a training program, Patricia Gracia reaffirms her philosophy and transforms the phrase that only warns to avoid the evil: “Do not do to others what you do not want them to do to you”. The woman is the core engine; everything is born from the family, which is the root of the huge tree: the society. 4. How does that role transcend to a country?

The woman has evolved at both personal and professional levels, statistics point out that they are opening their very own businesses at a higher percentage than men, this marks the economy of the country –I mean the United States-. Great companies are led by women; they have a key position in the public, educational, entrepreneurial and diplomatic fields. Nonetheless, from the family scope, the woman is shaping society; her involvement is the root, the structure of every society.

3. ¿Cómo se refleja la comunicación, el trabajo familiar, hacia una empresa, hacia la sociedad?

El origen de todo está en la infancia, nuestra misión comienza cuando tenemos a nuestros hijos en el vientre, desde ese momento todo afectará al niño; con tu alimento físico y espi­ ritual, se alimentará la criatura, luego cuando crece lo encaminas para dejarlo libre. Formar al individuo digno de la sociedad, es la participación de la mujer.

4. ¿Cómo trasciende ese papel hacia un país?

La mujer ha evolucionado a nivel personal y profesional, las estadísticas señalan que está abriendo negocios propios en mayor porcentaje al de los hombres, esto marca la economía del país -hablo de Estados Unidos-. Las grandes

5. Another constant feature is the aid for the fellow people, talk about the sentence you adapted: “Do to others what you want them to do to you”.

To help my fellow people is to help myself, it is the opportunity that gives peace of mind, fullness… from here it is what I say: “Do to others what you want them to do to you”. It is like giving away something you like; that causes happiness to both the person who gives it away and the one who receives it, it is a profound and sensible feeling that the interlocutor perceives; accordingly, communication.

6. What does love represent for you in routine and professional lives?

Love is the most important thing, it must be in every action; to transcend is educating children with love because that makes excellent individuals; when you cook with love, the dish will turn delicious, love when doing business; you have a passion for everything you do. Love in attitudes, feelings, and emotions; to know how to transmit that energy makes the receiver give their best; love lets us fulfill objectives.

7. What is the most important value?

The most important value is truth; a person who lies is a menace to society, lying brings terrible consequences, my grandma used to say: “Truth always comes to light”. It’s better living with the truth, people who are sincere have less mental work; lying generates tension and put you away from reality. Sincerity is peace of mind to undertake and create; it gives an actual lifetime purpose.

8. In the agencies, what are your achievements and your objectives?

I don’t want to fly overnight, but with firm steps; in 2008 a dream came true for us after buying a building in Santa Clarita. We achieved that in the middle of the economic downturn, when the world economic tragedy exploded here, it was a sad year in the United States, while for us it was a year of achievements. 2010 has been a very satisfactory year because the Federal Government granted the award: “Minority Small Business Champion of The Year”. My goal: To continue with sound bases, with a Latin taste, very humane, with passion.

My goal is to bring companies from Mexico, big companies that have no idea of the know-how to break into this market; they apply the

empresas están dirigidas por mujeres, en el sector público ocupan puestos determinantes, en el educativo, empresa­rial, diplomático. Sin embargo, desde el ámbito familiar, la mujer está forjando la sociedad; su participación es la raíz, la estructura de toda sociedad.

5. Otra constante es la ayuda al prójimo, platícanos de la frase que adaptaste: “Haz al prójimo lo que tu quieras que hagan para ti”.

Ayudar al prójimo es ayudarme a mi misma, es la oportunidad que da paz espiritual, plenitud… de aquí surge: “Haz al prójimo lo que tu quieras que hagan para ti”. Es como regalar algo que te gusta; eso causa la alegría de quien regala y de quien recibe, es un sentimiento profundo y sincero que percibe el interlocutor; es comunicación.

6. ¿Qué representa el amor en la vida cotidiana, en la vida profesional?

El amor es lo más importante, debe estar en cada acción; trascen­der es educar hijos con amor porque hace excelentes individuos; cuando cocinas con amor la comida es deliciosa, amor al hacer negocios; todo lo que haces te apasiona.

Amor en actitudes, sentimientos, emociones; saber transmitir esa energía, hace que el receptor de lo mejor; el amor nos permite lograr objetivos.

7. ¿Cuál es el valor más importante?

El valor más importante es la verdad, una persona que miente es un peligro para la sociedad, mentir trae consecuencias terribles, mi abuela decía “La verdad siempre sale a la luz”. Es mejor vivir con la verdad, la gente que es sincera tiene menos trabajo mental; mentir genera tensión y aleja de la realidad. La sinceridad es paz mental para emprender y crear; da propósito real de vida..

8. ¿En las agencias cuáles son tus logros, tus objetivos?

No quiero volar de un día para otro, con pasos firmes, en el año 2008 concretamos un sueño al comprar un edificio en la ciudad de Santa Clarita.. Se logró en plena recesión económica, cuando explotó aquí la bomba de la tragedia económica mundial, fue un año triste en Estados Unidos, mientras, para nosotros fue un año de logros. 2010 ha sido un año muy satisfactorio porque el Gobier­no Federal otorgó el premio: “Minority Small Business Champion of The Year”. Mi meta: seguir con bases sólidas, con sabor latino muy humano, pasionales.

9. What do you advise in order to fulfill dreams?

Dreams are part of us, one has to live with dreams, paint them, shape them –and just like a painter- bring color to them, forge them on a daily basis… I see my dreams, keep my goals in them; crystallizing dreams is meeting goals. Dreaming is living, having energy. As a wrap-up of the interview, I fulfilled a dream: I went back to college, I always wanted to become a psychologist, and I resumed my program eight months ago in order to graduate.

Drawing up goals and painting our dreams keep us alive with positive energy in order to give the best from ourselves; they offer us motives to go on. To thank God for his gifts, for the energy to continue; thank Him for the opportunity to share, everything in life is opportunities that God gives us. Thank God for letting me be what I am, for what he gives me every day, I thank the world and life. I ask God for letting me witness the growth of my children and see them go to college. Just to see them how they´ll become good people.

Mi meta es traer compañías de México, compañías grandes que no tienen idea de como ingresar en este mercado, aplican la mercadotecnia de su país, eso no funciona, genera fracaso, nuestra experiencia responde a los planes y a la mercadotecnia que aplicamos, al conocimiento del mercado en este país, donde el hispano es muy diferente a todos los hispanos que radican en el resto mundo. Para mi, la industria mexicana es el puente hacia este país.

9. ¿Qué aconsejas para lograr sueños?

Los sueños forman parte de nosotros, hay que vivir con sueños pintarlos, darles forma -e igual que un pintor- colorearlos, forjarlos día a día… Veo mis sueños, en ellos guardo mis metas; cristalizar sueños es cristalizar metas. Soñar es vivir, tener energía. Como cierre de la entrevista, realicé un sueño: regresé a la universidad, siempre he querido ser psicóloga, hace ocho meses retomé mis estudios para obtener mi título.

Trazar metas, pintar nuestros sueños nos mantiene vivos con energía positiva para dar lo mejor de nosotros, nos ofrecen motivos para continuar. Dar gracias a Dios por sus Dones, por la energía para continuar; gracias por la oportunidad de compartir, todo en la vida son oportunidades que Dios nos da. Gracias a Dios por dejarme ser como soy, por lo que me da cada día, agradezco al mundo y a la vida.. Le pido a Dios que me permita ver crecer a mis hijos y verlos entrar en la universidad. Ver que son hombres de bien.

In 1978, Hispanic leaders from throughout California convened to discuss the lack of representation of Hispanic businesses in state government. These leaders recognized the need for an organization to effectively represent the interest of the rapidly growing number of Hispanic-owned businesses in California. That group formed the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce. In 2010 a new member was added: The Santa Clarita Valley Latino Chamber of Commerce.

Today, the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce has a network of over 65 Hispanic chambers and business associations throughout the State. Through its network of Hispanic chambers and business associations, the chamber represents the interest of over 700,000 Hispanic business owners in California. That chamber is the premier and largest regional ethnic business organization in the nation that promotes the economic growth and development of Hispanic entrepreneurs and California’s Emerging Businesses.

With powerful resources at our disposal and outstanding community leadership involvement, the SCV Latino Chamber promises to be a strong support organization to provide local businesses the networking, education and resources they need to succeed.

Our current programs include: monthly networking mixers and breakfasts; business open houses to promote individual businesses; business executive mastermind groups to help address individual issues and challenges; and three major sponsored events: Cinco de Mayo in May, Education Gala in June and Festival of the Americas in September.

Easy to make Aztec Soup Sopa Azteca fácil de preparar Por / By: Lorena López.

Ingredients: For the soup: • ½ tablespoon minced garlic • 1/3 chopped medium white onion • 1 8oz can diced tomatoes • 2 medium chipotle chiles • 2 cups chicken broth OR 2 tbsp of chicken broth powder with 1 cup of water • 2 tablespoons olive oil • 2/3 teaspoon salt • 2 chicken breasts • 2 hard boiled eggs How to make it: Heat the oil in a soup pot and fry all the ingredients.

Add the chicken broth, the chiles and 4 cups of water. Let it boil over a moderately high heat. Add the shredded chicken breast and let it season.

(serves 4 people) • (para 4 personas) Ingredientes: Para el caldillo: • 1/2 cucharadita de ajo picado • 1/3 cebolla blanca • 1 lata de 8 oz. de puré de tomate • 2 chiles chipotles medianos • 2 tazas de consomé de pollo regular o • 2 cucharadas de consomé en polvo con 1 taza de agua • 2 cucharaditas de aceite de olivo • 2/3 cucharadita de sal • 2 pechugas de pollo cocidas • 2 huevos cocidos Preparación: Se sofríen los ingredientes en dos cucharaditas de aceite de olivo, se deja sazonar un poco y se le incorpora el caldo de pollo con 4 tazas de agua y los chiles. Se deja hervir un poco a fuego lento. Posteriormente se agregan 2 pechugas de pollo cocidas y deshebradas, y se deja sazonar.

To Garnish: Cut fried tortilla chips in small pieces. Chop two hard boiled eggs, cut fresh cheese in cubes, and cut a lime in small wedges.

Para adornar: Cortar tiritas de tortilla y freir. Picar los dos huevos cocidos finamente, rebanar un aguacate, cortar queso fresco o panela en cuadritos, y cortar un limón en rebanadas.

Once the soup is served in a bowl, garnish with all the ingredients and serve with a lime wedge and enjoy!

Se decora el caldillo ya servido con todos los ingredientes y se sirve con una rebanada de limón y a disfrutar!
