Principal’s Message
I’m delighted to present to you this Digital Yearbook as a record of the academic year 2019-20. When I first arrived at NAISAK in August 2019, I don’t think I could have predicted the strange and unusual year ahead. It wasn’t quite how I expected my first year as Principal to unfold! This has been an unprecedented year for all of us, with normal campus life coming to an abrupt end on March 10th 2019, when the school buildings closed and virtual education began. As always there has been much to celebrate throughout the year at NAISAK, in spite of the challenges presented in the latter half of the year. It has been wonderful to enjoy the new Secondary building as well as the beautiful swimming pool. The Primary building has benefitted from renovations and new additions, such as the Performing Arts studio. The improvements to the site have given us all room to breathe and much improved facilities for teaching and learning. However, one thing we have learned from the COVID crisis is that our school is much, much more than a collection of buildings. NAISAK staff, students and parents have all done an amazing job throughout the period of virtual schooling and I am so proud of every member of our school community for their adaptability and resilience. Despite all our challenges, this Yearbook is a reminder of some of the key events in a year of amazing achievements. I am sure we will create many more memories together next year. I hope that you will treasure this Digital Yearbook on behalf of your child, so that they may look back on this year at NAISAK as a happy, joyful time that forever holds a special place in their heart.

Foundation Stage Leader Message Dear children, parents, colleagues and friends, Wow, how do I even begin to express how we feel at the end of the 2019-2020 academic year? In the Early Years we talk about the ‘unique child’ but that phrase applies equally to this year. The children have shown yet again how amazing they are. We began the year with our wonderful new learning environment, both inside and out. This gave the children the opportunity to follow their own learning and allowed us to witness the fun they had using their imaginations. The children are developing into creative, hardworking, communicative and sociable young people. Even more importantly, they are adaptable, patient and resilient in an ever-changing world. The children have enjoyed moving more freely between our learning spaces, both across classrooms and between the inside and outside spaces. It has been great to see them grow in confidence and decision making throughout the year. They have had the opportunity to engage in so many practical learning experiences. They have built imaginative castles, train tracks and fire towers. Together we have explored the mud kitchen, often making cakes (usually chocolate - my favourite!) We have made our own playdough, getting messy but having great fun and always learning! We have tried different foods, deciding that we like the gingerbread story but not the smell of ginger, and we learned how to bake bread. The children have learned to care for living things, from learning about hospitals and vets to growing plants (the beanstalks in particular.) We have measured, weighed, mixed, drawn, cut, written and talked about so much! We have had visitors, real and imaginary, including the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk and so many book characters, such as dalmatians on World Book Day. Most importantly, we have shared our journey with you, our parents. The children have loved sharing story times with you, talking about and reading books. Thank you so much for spending this quality time together. We have also enjoyed our open morning sessions with you, and the children have loved sharing their learning. We have enjoyed the opportunity to talk with you about your children and have appreciated your open conversations and you sharing your family with us. There have been other special events too, including International week, National Day celebrations, a trip to see the Fire and Rescue vehicles, and not forgetting World Book Day with some great characters from our shared story books. During recent months, we have continued sharing through our Virtual School Experience. Although we have missed seeing the children, it has been incredible that so many of you have supported us with online learning and joining in with daily LIVE sessions. As we end the year, I am genuinely heartbroken to leave without saying goodbye in our usual way. On a personal note, I would like to thank all of you for everything over the past 3 years. I have absolutely loved being here at NAISAK and seeing the children grow and learn, welcoming new children and parents, saying “Hi” to children that have moved up in school and who pop back to see us. It really is a privilege. As I move back to England to be with family, I know that you will continue to learn and grow, and I wish you all the very best for the future.

Head of Primary Message
Welcome to the Primary section of our Yearbook. This year has without a doubt provided many challenges. However, as always the NAISAK community shone through and we worked together to enjoy a vibrant and eventful year. There is never a dull moment at NAISAK! The highlights of this year have been many and varied. Qatar National Day is a wonderful celebration in the year. At one point it was almost cancelled due to severe rainstorms, but as usual the staff and parents worked together to make it a resounding success. Again, we welcomed the ever-present falcons, so well behaved and far calmer than the people around them. Our children were proud in their national dress and the school was awash in Qatari colours. The performances involving dances and recitals organised by the Arabic staff were a joy to watch, with the sun eventually appearing in the late afternoon. International Day is always a delightful event, and my favourite part is the diverse and delectable food provided by the parents, a true culinary experience. The Year 5 production a ‘Murder Mystery’ showcased both our teachers’ and children’s drama talents. During the encore, I was persuaded by the children to join in with the Charleston dance. Not one of my finer moments in life! World Book Day saw another profusion of costumes, including my own BFG character. The songs and poems presented by different classes in the assembly were a highlight of the day. Finally came the on-site school closure due to the COVID 19 virus transmission and unprecedented times across the world. Again, as the result of our community working together, we provided a new and completely different school experience for our students. Working virtually was always going to prove challenging. The pivotal moment was when we began live sessions and our students and children were reunited again, offering a huge lift to the school community. That contact and relationship is the essence of classroom teaching and can never be replaced. This is my final year at NAISAK and my main focus was always to provide a firm foundation of English teaching, to ensure that children made progress in the basic skills of reading and writing. I am confident that this will be my legacy and the benefits will be enjoyed by future generations. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to serve this community over the last two years. My heartfelt thanks to all of the staff I have worked alongside, the parents for always making me feel welcome and of course to the wonderful children of whom I will take many treasured memories. I am saddened to leave, but it was time to rejoin my family in England. You will always remain in my thoughts and I wish you all the very best for the future

Head of Secondary Message Dear Students, Parents and Colleagues, Every academic year brings its own share of tests, but it is fair to say that 2019-2020 will be remembered for its, hopefully, once-in-a-lifetime challenges! That said, this year will have demonstrated the positivity, enthusiasm, dedication and resilience we, as a school community, are able to uphold high when faced with unusual circumstances. Although opening our long-awaited brand-new Secondary building was certainly the highlight of starting last August, the excitement that accompanies all academic years comes from the amazement we, as educators, feel at the contemplation of our students’ individual journey. I am sure my colleagues would agree with me that there is no better profession than to help nurture and guide our young learners towards the adults they want to become. As such, I would like to thank you, dear parents, for entrusting us with this immense responsibility. We will not be able to conclude this academic year as we traditionally like to: there will be no ‘real’ music, laughs, parties and assemblies, or tears shed together at the gate. Nevertheless, I want to wish all the best to those of our students and their families leaving us, as they start a new journey towards different horizons. Some of our students are leaving NAISAK with one of the most fabulous adventures ahead of them: joining a university. Whether it is in Qatar or overseas, they will undeniably take a little bit of NAISAK with them, and we see them go with the undisputed confidence that they will make themselves and us very proud. To our teachers moving on, a sincere thank you for all your contributions to our school community and helping NAISAK build on its strengths. I am looking forward to welcoming our returning students, our joining students, our ‘Year 6 moving to Year 7’ students as well as our new teachers in September, virtually or on site. Whatever the next few months hold for us, the past few have proved to us that there is nothing the NAISAK community cannot withstand! Until we meet again, stay well and safe. Warm regards,
