The 2024–2025 school year was a year of celebration, marking sixty years of history together as a community. We began with our community potluck, a long-standing tradition since the 1990s, where families gathered to share food, friendship, and, of course, a birthday cake and a brandnew dolphin! Just a few weeks later, on the actual day of our founding, every student and staff member on campus - nearly 600 in total - enjoyed a celebratory cupcake. Visitors to campus explored our new historical timeline mural and discovered the many stories that connect our school community across the decades, now chronicled in our history book. The anniversary year culminated in a gala celebration filled with music, video, and reflections that captured our dolphin pride and community spirit. These occasions, alongside the many school events and ceremonies that make every year at NIS special, made this one particularly memorable.
But it was also a year of strengthening our sense of purpose — remembering the past while looking ahead to the future. As we reflected on how the school has evolved, many in our community felt the time had come to ask what truly defines an NIS experience. What is it that we most value? Through conversations, reflection, and collective dialogue, we reached clarity. The four values that now anchor our work — Safety, Growth, Responsibility, and Belonging — define the culture we aim to build and sustain together as a community and which will carry NIS forward into its next decade with clarity and purpose.
As we look forward to another sixty years of serving the international community of Nagoya, we are grateful for the support, energy, and belief of the families who make NIS what it is today. Thank you for celebrating with us, and for joining us on the journey still to come. Here’s to the next 60 years!

HEAD OF SCHOOL

対話と熟考を重ねた結果、私たちが共有する文化の核となる4つの価値観 「Safety(安全)・Growth(成長)・Responsibility(責任)・Belonging(つながり)」が明確になりまし た。

From April, 2024 to March, 2025
NIS continued to advance its five-year fiscal plan, supporting steady growth in programs, facilities, and staffing. Despite rising operational costs and the ongoing weakness of the yen — challenges shared by all international schools in Japan — NIS maintained a strong financial position through careful planning and community support.
Total income for the year was ¥1,554,157,950, with tuition (84.1%) and fees (13.2%) providing the majority of revenue. Expenses totaled ¥1,498,245,515, primarily for staff salaries, benefits, and professional development (61.1%) resulting in a modest surplus of ¥55,912,435 or 3.6% of revenue, important to be able to fund future capital investments.
Capital expenditures of ¥372,335,317 focused on long-term improvements, including land purchase (59.7%), IT, library, and classroom upgrades, and campus renovations.
At year-end, debt stood at ¥745,644,000, with a Debt:Equity ratio of 28.67%, in compliance with Aichi Prefecture’s “gakko-hojin” requirements.
With total assets exceeding ¥3.29 billion, NIS remained financially stable and well positioned to continue investing in the future of learning and community.
