Ĺ˜Ĺ–Ĺ—Ĺ&#x;

MUMBAI, SEP 3 (PTI): Benchmark stock indices on Tuesday crashed over 2 per cent and the rupee tumbled 97 paise to a level not seen in over 9 months as unpleasant news continued to flow in for the Indian economy. The BSE Sensex crashed about 770 points and the NSE Nifty dived over 225 points after investors indulged in panick selloffs as dismal GDP print, weak core sector growth and disappointing auto sale numbers pointed to deepening economic crisis in the country. The benchmark indices also saw their biggest intra-day plunge in nearly 11 months. Massive selloffs in equities saw investor wealth eroding by Rs 2.55 lakh crore. Indian markets, after an extended weekend, opened on Tuesday sharply lower reacting to country’s worsening macro-economic situation as well as weak global cues attributed to long-lasting US-China

project should be completed as per the specification within the stipulated time unless there was an issue or valid reasons. Taking cognizance of the price escalation tradition in the state, Patton said there were certain cases where the works were intentionally delayed for price escalation for the benefit of the contractors, adding that said such trend must be stopped. Dy CM also asked the engineers and SDOs for regular inspection of projects especially the major ones. He affirmed that no advance measurement should be allowed before the execution of works. Patton called for timely submission of progress reports to the head

office and timely submission of Utilization Certificate for smooth flow of the fund. He said that proper correspondence between HoDs and the divisions should be maintained to avoid any litigation in future. Deputy chief minister also discouraged deviation/ diversion of works from the original work order/DPR unless there were justified reasons. He asserted there were some instances where works were diverted from the original work order in connivance with the engineers, which he said should be absolutely restricted. Meanwhile, the Dy CM also sought to know the position of the fund of Rs. 500 cr which he and chief minister had submitted to the central ministry for road maintenance of the districts. Assuring to extend all possible help and solve the issues pointed out by the chief engineer, Patton requested the engineers to cooperate and work with the government. Patton said he would also convene a meeting with the engineers along with the contractors soon. (Cont’d on p-7)

NDPP assures Ravi on governance Assam doctors protest colleague’s killing

NDPP delegation led by CM Neiphiu Rio call on Nagaland Governor RN Ravi at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.

DIMAPUR, SEP 3 (NPN): A delegation of NDPP leaders called on the Governor of Nagaland, RN Ravi at Raj Bhavan Tuesday and assured all assistance and cooperation towards achieving peace through an honorable and acceptable political solution.

NDPP through its media & communications committee stated that the led by the state chief minister Neiphiu Rio also appreciated the governor’s concerns on improving governance and ensuring transparency. The delegation also assured him of support towards achieving

the common endeavours. NDPP highlighted the aspiration of the party to strive towards meritocracy and improve governance at all levels while promoting opportunities for the youth of Nagaland. The party also reiterated its stand of supporting and facilitating the “IndoNaga political dialogue and called for an early political solution to the decades old imbroglio. Further, the delegation discussed issues concerning enhancing development and improving connectivity, especially air connectivity. The delegation wished the Governor a successful tenure and assured him of all possible cooperation. Other members of the delegation included NDPP president Chingwang Konyak, working presidents Alemtemshi Jamir, Nyiemnie Konyak and secretary general Abu Metha.

GUWAHATI, SEP 3 (PTI): Doctors in Assam were on a 24-hour strike on Tuesday to protest the assault on an elderly colleague at a tea garden that led to his death, officials said. Emergency services have been kept out of the purview of the stir. Seventy three-year-old Dr Deben Dutta had succumbed to his injuries after being assaulted by relatives of a tea garden worker who died while undergoing treatment at a hospital at Teok Tea Estate in Jorhat district on Saturday. Responding to a call by the Assam unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), doctors at government and private hospitals as well as consultation chambers stayed away from work from 6 am but attended emergency services, health department officials said. The stir affected services in six government medical college hospitals

Relief issue: Four VCs reiterate claim DIMAPUR, SEP 3 (NPN): Four village councils under Chuchuyimlang EAC administrative circle have reiterate their earlier statement that some of the victims who were affected by different calamities in 2015 and 2016 have not received any relief from Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA)/ State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF). In a joint statement, chairmen of Chuchuyimlang Village Council (CVC), Salulamang Village Council (SVC), Yaongyimti Village Council (Old) and Yaongyimti Village Council (New) stated that 32 victims of the 2016 cyclonic storm at Chuchuyimlang village and three families at Yaongyimti village whose houses were gutted by fire have not been provided any relief till date despite site inspections by the district administration

along with police. Appreciating the commissioner & secretary for prompt clarification, the village councils, however, maintained that they were neither confused with the regular relief provided under SDRF sanctioned by the Government of India nor construing any relief in lieu of SDRF. They said the four village councils and victims of the natural calamities were confounded and annoyed by the “ambiguous documents to issue the 50 kg bag of rice to the victims as they categorically bore the names of Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) and Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) which, they expressed belief were two distinct entities. Further, appreciating the state chief minister for

the relief, the village council, however, they have resolved not to accept the relief till such time the relief was provided by the NSDMA/SDRF since it was more than a year after the incident happened on May 9, 2018. They said the responsible office/department may have sanctioned for disbursal as claimed by commissioner & secretary, but the victims of the 2018 calamity have not received any relief till date. Therefore, they said statement “additional relief was questionable and misleading. They also said that though some of the 2016 victims at Chuchuyimlang have received relief of Rs. 3000 and below, 32 victims of the same 2016 calamity from Chuchuyimlang village alone have claimed that

they have not received any relief till date. While some of the names of those victims along with the nature and extent of damage were submitted by the CVC to the district administration, they said documents seeking relief by some of the victims were directly processed by the district administration. In this regard, the village council said it cannot be claimed that all the victims of 2018 have already been provided relief. NSDMA (Home) commissioner secretary had clarified that relief rice distribution across the state was being provided under CM’s Relief Fund for disasteraffected victims of 2018 and that it should not be confused with the regular relief provided under SDRF sanctioned by Government of India with specific norms.

It is their duty to guide those

who indulge in violence and prevent them from doing so, he said. While doctors claimed that emergency services are unaffected due to the stir, the patients said they faced problems due to the stir. Gynaecologist Dr Nilima T Haque told PTI that operation theatres functioned normally. “I have assisted in four deliveries so far and am attending serious patients, she said. Shreya Nath, a young intern at GMCH said she and her colleagues attended critical patients.
