CMO rebuts Zeliang; states ‘facts’ on NL house Kolkata
NEW DELHI, SEP 22 (AGENCIES): Criticising the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) circular directing universities and colleges to observe ‘Surgical Strike Day’ on September 29, the Congress said that the motive of the directive is to reap political gains. According to an ANI report, senior Congress leader and M.P Kapil Sibal said that such moves by the statutory body destroys the independence of the university system. “I do not think since independence, we have seen UGC giving any kind of directive of this nature to universities. For UGC, to give a directive is destroying the very independence of the university system,” Sibal said. UGC has issued a circular requesting all higher educational institutions (HEI), universities and colleges to observe ‘Surgical Strike Day’ on September 29. Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the circular is only advisory in nature and not mandatory or imposed.
B’deshi migrants are termites, will Barbarism against soldiers need to be be removed from voters’ list: Shah avenged: Gen Rawat JAIPUR, SEP 22 (PTI/ AGENCIES): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Saturday said Bangladeshi migrants are like termites and each one of them will be struck off the electoral roll. Referring to the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) recently published in Assam, he said the BJP government brought NRC and prima facie identified nearly 40 lakh illegal immigrants. Shah, who was speaking at a public meeting in Sawai Madhopur district’s Gangapur, said the BJP government would pick out each and every infiltrator. The BJP chief was in Rajasthan earlier this month as well as his party and the Congress gear up for the assembly elections by the year-end. During the rally, Amit Shah attacked the Congress over its criticism of the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam while vowing to expel all Bangladeshi infiltrators. He said the criticism showed that the Congress “is more concerned about its vote
sequences on Hindus from neighbouring countries in India. “We have taken a firm decision that the BJP will not go back on the NRC. And after singling them out, we will put them on the list so that they can be identified),” said Shah. Earlier, BJP general secretary Ram Madhav said people excluded from the final list of Assam-specific National Register of Citizens would be de-franchised and deported to their country. “The NRC should be implemented in all states. This is a document which can protect all Indians. Those who will be excluded from the NRC in Assam can go to other states. So we will have to take strong step,” he said at the seminar, organised by think-tank ‘Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini’ earlier this month. “The NRC will ensure the detection of all illegal immigrants. The next step will be delete- means deletion of names of illegal immigrants from voters list and deprive them from all government benefits. The next stage will be deportation,” he said.
NEW DELHI, SEP 22 (AGENCIES): Army chief General Bipin Rawat said Saturday stern action is needed to avenge the barbarism by terrorists and the Pakistan Army against Indian soldiers without resorting to brutality. The comment comes after a BSF jawan was shot and his throat slit recently, followed by the abduction and killings of three policemen in Jammu and Kashmir. “We need to take stern action to avenge the kind of barbarism that terrorists and the Pakistan Army have been carrying out against our soldiers. It is time to give it back to them in the same coin, but not by resorting to similar kind of barbarism...,” the Army chief said at a press conference here. “...If you look at it, the casualty and damage suffered by the other side (Pakistan) is far more than what we have been suffering. We have done it a professional and a militarylike manner,” the army chief insisted.
DIMAPUR, SEP 22 (NPN): Reacting to the allegation by T.R. Zeliang, leader of opposition that chief minister Neiphiu Rio was home minister during 1997 when the lease agreement for Nagaland house commercial complex Kolkata was renewed, media cell of CMO has issued a clarification to place the facts. Media Cell of CMO clarified that chief minister Neiphiu Rio was the PWD minister and not home minister during that period when a cabinet sub-committee was constituted to sign the lease agreement. The CMO further clarified that though Neiphiu was then PWD minister, he was not included in the cabinet subcommittee to negotiate and sign the lease agreement. The reaction to T.R. Zeliang was over his statement that was published in the media, imputing that, Neiphiu Rio was the home minister when the lease for the Nagaland commercial complex was renewed. The state guest houses come under home department.
CMO said despite this fact, the leader of opposition T.R. Zeliang made the incorrect statement on the floor of the house “with malafide intent.” CMO wondered whether Zeliang’s target was Civil Engineers Enterprise Pvt. Ltd (promoted by Shyamalendu Ghosal former engineer under Nagaland PWD, who bagged the construction work for the Nagaland House Commercial Complex and his partner, the son of a top south Indian bureaucrat during 1979-82). (The construction and lease for the Nagaland House Commercial Complex was initiated during 1979 and signed in 1982 during the NNDP government tenure). CMO blamed the then Congress government in 1997 for having signed a “one-sided” agreement that was “unfair, unjust, illegal and unconstitutional”. It said the flawed agreement was based on the West Bengal Tenancy Act which was not applicable to properties owned by state governments. The 1997 agreement
Petrol prices soar; diesel unchanged
Change mindset to develop: Gov Advisor Imtikumzuk Longkumer passes away
NEW DELHI, SEP 22 (IANS): Petrol prices continued the upward movement across the metro cities on Saturday with the cost inching closer to the Rs 90per-litre mark in Mumbai. In the financial capital of the country, petrol was sold at Rs 89.80, up from Rs 89.69 per litre on Friday, data on the Indian Oil Corp’s website showed. Similarly, in the other three cities of Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, the fuel was priced at Rs 82.44, Rs 84.27 and Rs 85.69 per litre, against Rs 82.32, Rs 84.16 and Rs 85.58 per litre. Diesel prices in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai were unchanged at Rs 73.87, Rs 75.72, Rs 78.42 and Rs 78.10 per litre, respectively. The continuous rise in transportation fuel prices has been in tandem with the increase in crude oil prices. Further, sector experts say, the high excise duty in the country has also added to the high prices. In contrast to petrol, prices of diesel were unchanged on Saturday for the fourth consecutive day. Cost of the fuel in all the key cities except Kolkata are at their record levels. The all-time high price of diesel in the West Bengal capital was Rs 75.82, as recorded on September 11.
was as per the decision of the cabinet sub-committee and draft made by the then advocate general and signed by then chief secretary A.M. Gokhale. As per the renewed 1997 lease agreement, the state was to be paid only Rs.7 lakh per month whereas CEEPL earned Rs.8 lakhs daily from the 100-bedded Super Speciality Hospital (Nightingale). After end of the 20year lease agreement period, CMO said chief minister Neiphiu Rio asked the home department to review the rental to Rs.2.2 crore a month as per prevalent market rate for the locality in Kolkata. However, it said , CEEPL went to court on February 14,2018.The government has filed a counter affidavit on July 16,2018 in order to restore the rights of the state over its legally owned premises that was mortgaged through onesided lease agreements, first to Engineers Enterprises Ltd and then Civil Engineers Enterprises Pvt. 29 killed at Iran military parade; IS claims responsibility ANCSU serves ultimatum on Tech Education deptt
This is it!
“No one to help the victim. It’s the age of WhatsApp paparazzi.”

TEHRAN, SEP 22 (AFP): Militants shot dead at least 29 people including women and children in an attack on Saturday on an Iranian military parade claimed by the Islamic State group, as Tehran accused a US ally in the region of the assault. The attack in the southwestern city of Ahvaz came as the country marked the anniversary of the start of its 1980-1988 war with Saddam Hussein’s Iraq
and prompted President Hassan Rouhani to warn of a “crushing response”. “The response of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the smallest threat will be crushing”, Rouhani said on his official website. “Those who give intelligence and propaganda support to these terrorists must answer for it.” Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a tweet that the attack near the Iraqi border
was carried out by “terrorists recruited, trained, armed & paid by a foreign regime”. “Iran holds regional terror sponsors and their US masters accountable for such attacks,” he wrote. IS jihadists said via their propaganda mouthpiece Amaq that “Islamic State fighters attacked a gathering of Iranian forces” in Ahvaz. The city lies in Khuzestan, a
province bordering Iraq that has a large ethnic Arab community and has seen separatist violence in the past that Iran has blamed on its regional rivals. State television gave a casualty toll of 29 dead and 57 wounded, while official news agency IRNA said those killed included women and children among spectators at the rally. Many of the wounded were in critical condition. Armed forces spokesman Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi said the dead included a young girl and a former serviceman in a wheelchair. “Of the four terrorists, three were sent to hell at the scene, while the fourth who had been wounded and arrested went to hell moments ago due to his severe wounds,” Shekarchi told state television. Khuzestan deputy governor Ali-Hossein Hosseinzadeh told the semi-official ISNA news agency that “eight to nine” troops were among those killed, as well as a journalist.
DIMAPUR, SEP 22 (NPN): Against the backdrop of a startling revelation in the CAG report, which detected suspected misappropriation/diversion of scholarship funds under technical education department, the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has demanded from the directorate of Technical Education a detailed report in black and white within five days on the misappropriation and diversion of scholarship funds. In a representation to the director directorate technical education, ANCSU vice president, Benjong Longchar, and general secretary, Vimeyiekho Vitso, stated the union would not accept any other reasons or excuses except its demands. Failure to meet its demands, ANCSU said it would be compelled to initiate necessary course of action. ANCSU said misappropriation and diversion of scholarship funds amounting to crores was “a
direct insult to the student community.” Stating that the department had no right to divert the fund meant only for payment of scholarship to the deserving students, ANCSU said it was astounded by “day-light robbery being boldly practiced by the officials”. The union, however, affirmed that it would leave no stone unturned to deliver justice to the student community. ANCSU also demanded that the responsible “erring officials” involved in the misappropriation and diversion of scholarship funds be booked as per the law. Asserting that ANCSU has been repeatedly apprising the state government and the department for proper implementation of scholarship schemes since past many years, the union expressed bewilderment and asked “whether the directorate of technical education is for or against the interest of the student community?” K Y M C
