BJP to apply ‘T20’ formula for 2019 Lok Sabha polls NEW DELHI, SEP 16 (AGENCIES): BJP will apply the “T20 formula” to ensure victory in the 2019 general elections, a senior party leader said. The T20 here, differs from the one popular in cricketing parlance as the party has set a target for every worker to visit at least 20 houses in their area and publicise the Modi-led government’s achievements while having tea. As BJP targets to secure another term, it has asked its workers to promote the government’s achievements to each and every house through “Har Booth, Das Youth” (roughly translated as ‘each booth ten youth’), NaMo app contact initiative, and booth ‘toli’, apart from the T20 formula. The BJP has asked its MPs, MLAs, local and booth-level workers to spread awareness among people in their respective area about the government’s schemes. Notably, the party had campaigned aggressively before the last general elections and used information and technology to connect with voters. A major highlight

of the technology-driven campaign was 3-D rally in which Modi delivered speech through 3D projections of himself. The BJP in the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections had started the “chai pe charcha” (conversations over tea) campaign, using which Modi connected with the common man over the brew and discussed several issues. The party now aims to take the campaign to a wider level for the upcoming elections. It has formulated a detailed strategy for booth level under which the party workers have been asked to add more people to the Narendra Modi (NaMo) app. According to party sources, a new version of the app, which will have a section regarding the assignments for workers, is on the cards next week. The section will contain things such as assignments for workers, how to include more people, information in texts, video clips and graphics, they said. According to them, the BJP has set a target of adding 100 people to NaMo app at every polling booth.

MTLT serves ultimatum on PHED to NE police forces join hands to restore water supply in Mokokchung check inter-state ultras movement DIMAPUR, SEP 16 (NPN): Expressing concern over total stoppage of water supply in Mokokchung town by Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) served an ultimatum to the department on Friday to immediately restore the water supply. Due to non-payment of an electricity bill amounting to Rs 66,000 to power department by PHED, the former disconnected power supply connection to the main pump house of water supply project, leading to stoppage of water supply in the entire town for almost four months now. Upset with the development, MTLT officebearers met PHED officials and conveyed to

them that the citizens of Mokokchung should not be made to suffer due to the department’s negligence. Out of a total 1.3 lakh population, only 2,300 households have water pipeline connections as per the department’s record. MTLT also expressed surprised as to why the PHED could not ensure supplying water to a small population, despite the Union ministry of water resources stating that every individual should get at least 70 litres of water every day. The organisation also accused the department of not paying any heed to restoring the main pipeline from Litsami village, from where water was sourced through a 30-km pipeline, which was damaged in certain areas due to the

recent landslides. Referring to poor condition of the two water pumps, MTLT urged PHED to upgrade the old pumps to 50-horse power capacity, besides providing two additional water pumps at the main pump house. The organisation pointed out that Angetyongpang, the only water source helping the Mokokchung residents survive, was drying up. And with the pipeline from Litsami water source too now getting disrupted, the citizens were unable to meet their daily water requirements, it added. MTLT urged the PHED to resolve the matters with all seriousness in the interest of the public, failing which it warned of taking its own course of action.

GUWAHATI, SEP 16 (AGENCIES): Meeting of the heads of police forces of the North Eastern states at Itanagar recently, decided to improve coordination at the ground level to deal with inter-state movement of militants and other problems arising in the inter-state border areas. The meeting also discussed strategies to deal with possible jehadi threat to the region as a whole. Though the coordination among police forces of the states of the region improved considerably over the years, there is scope for improvement and efforts were also made to identify the common problems and threats. One major threat to the region is that states of the North East have long international boundaries. Most of the active militant groups of the region have strong bases in Myanmar, while inter-state movement of militants is a major issue. The

militant groups have strong bases in Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts of Arunachal Pradesh, and Mon and Tuensang districts of Nagaland. From those bases, they often try to sneak into Assam to indulge in acts of violence. The meeting decided that there should be coordination at the range DIG level to deal with such problems. Sources said the police heads also discussed ways to deal with inter-state border disputes and to suggest measures to the respective governments to deal with the issue. The issue of formation of the NEPOL, the institutionalized mechanism to augment inter-state cooperation of the security forces was also discussed in detail. Sources revealed that some minor details would have to be worked out in this regard. But the NEPOL is likely to become active soon, sources added.

and union territories had signed the memorandum of understanding and have started working on implementation of the mission. Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu have also joined the scheme recently. A pilot project of the scheme was launched in 22 states and union territories. The ministry has received 15,686 applications for hospital empanelment, including private hospitals, so far. “Majority of the people (who will now be covered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme) could not afford the healthcare and hospitalisation. Things will change for a big population of the country,” Nadda, whose ministry has been preparing for the launch of the ambitious healthcare scheme, said. “Over 10.74 crore vulnerable entitled families (approximately 50 crore

beneficiaries) will be eligible for these benefits. PMJAY will help reduce catastrophic expenditure for hospitalisation, which impoverishes people and will help mitigate the financial risk arising out of catastrophic health episodes. When fully implemented, PMJAY will become the world’s largest fully government-financed health protection scheme,” Nadda said. As per the health ministry estimates, 62.58 per cent of the population in the country has to pay for their own health and hospitalization expenses and are not covered through any form of health protection. Each year 4.6 per cent of the population is pushed below the poverty line as people meet their healthcare needs spending large proportion of their income and savings, borrowing money or selling their assets. Ayushman Bharat aims

to cover prevention, promotion and ambulatory care at primary, secondary and tertiary level. The scheme envisages creation of 1,50,000 health and wellness centres which will bring health care closer to the homes of the people. These centres will provide comprehensive primary health care covering both maternal and child health services and non-communicable diseases, including free essential drugs and diagnostic services. The second component of the scheme is the PMJAY which provides health protection cover to poor and vulnerable families for secondary and tertiary care. The National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO) has found that 85.9 per cent of rural households and 82 per cent of urban households have no access to healthcare insurance/ assurance.
