Raj Bhavan sucked into political vortex KOHIMA, NOV 1 (NPN): The ongoing political tussle within the ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF) acquired a new dimension after the Raj Bhavan in Kohima too was sucked into the vortex. After eight days of sitin protest here, NPF’s central youth wing on Wednesday reached out to President of India, Ram Nath Kovind seeking Nagaland Governor PB Acharya’s recall, besides taking cognizance of the alleged biased action of the Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly. In a seven-point-memorandum to the President through chief secretary, Pankaj Kumar, NPF central youth wing president, N. Vihoshe Swu and working president Bendangtoshi sought immediate intervention of the Rashtrapati Bhavan on the matter. NPF youth wing, vice president Achamo Kikon read out the memorandum

on the eighth day of the sitin dharna at the Civil Secretariat Kohima and said the organisation has submitted the memorandum through the Chief Secretary. The youth wing accused the Gover nor of murdering the Constitution of India and violating all democratic practices. The memorandum alleged that “without any rhyme and reason”, the Governor had dismissed the NPF-led DAN government on 19th July 2017 around 12 noon and barely three hours later he invited TR Zeliang to form the government. The organisation expressed surprise that Zeliang was sworn in as chief minister at 3 p.m. without a letter of support from the NPF. Narrating the chain of events, the youth wing said Zeliang was expelled from the NPF that day and hence Acharya should not have invited him to form the government. Prior to dismissal of the DAN government on July 19, the Governor summoned the Assembly for a floor test. Accordingly, the NPF issued a whip through its chief whip Kiyanilie Peseyie to vote against the motion

“People appreciate our press statements on various issues. I think we should continue issuing press releases.” K Y M C

DIMAPUR, NOV 1 (NPN): Nearly 570 government teachers who had been attached to VIPs, directorate, DEOs and SDEOs have been redeployed to various schools. Principal Director School Education, Smita Sarangi through an order dated October 31, 2017 directed the teachers to join the respective schools within seven days. Strict disciplinary action would be taken against wilful defaulters, the order stated. The decision comes against the backdrop of several complaints received from various organizations regarding shortage of teachers at various schools. It may be recalled that School Education minister,

moved by Zeliang since he had been expelled from the party that day already. However, in total defiance of the party whip, altogether 36 NPF MLAs, including the Speaker, voted in favour of Zeliang. The NPF has moved disqualification petition in the Speaker’s court on 21st July against the 36 MLAs who had wilfully defied the party whip. Now, even after a lapse of three months, the Speaker has not taken any action till date, the memorandum stated. On the other hand, instead of taking action as per the laid down provisions under the Constitution of India, the Speaker is giving flimsy excuses that amounts to “subjugating the rule of law”, it pointed out. The youth wing stated that in protest against the “inordinate delay” on the part of the Speaker in disqualifying the 36 MLAs and also for not taking necessary action on other issues like appointment of Yitachu as the chief whip of the party in place of late Kiyanilie Peseyie and non-recognition of Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu as the leader of the legislature party, it had resorted to dharna in front of the Civil

Tokheho Yepthomi took serious note of the complaints and initiated the process of revamping the School Education department for smooth functioning of government schools in the state. Tokheho had earlier pointed out that over 700 teachers were reportedly not performing their duties as assigned, creating problems in the management and functioning of government schools in the state. It was also pointed out that 43 teachers were attached to various VIPs, 76 Teachers attached to the directorate of school education, 64 teachers attached to state mission office (RMSA) and state mission authority office of SSA and 551 attached to various DEO and SDEO offices in the districts and sub-divisions.

Secretariat. “It is indeed surprising that the honourable Speaker instead of taking up the case for disqualification of the 36 MLAs have resorted in summoning the 9 MLAs for disqualification which is

totally wrong in the eyes of the law,” it added. The memorandum further warned that, in the event of anymore disrespect to the constitution and the legal system, Acharya will be held solely responsible.

8 die in New York terror attack near 9/11 site

Yitachu slams Imchen’s misconduct NPF spokesperson Yitachu, MLA on Wednesday condemned the action of Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) minister, Imkong L. Imchen for allegedly manhandling the principal director of H&FW. Taking the opportunity to hit out at the rival group, Yitachu, while speaking at the sit-in protest-- which entered its eight day, said it was a shameful act to manhandle such a senior officer. He demanded chief minister to take action against his minister. On one hand the government claims to be a people’s government while on the other hand the elected representative manhandles an officer, he said, adding it has only brought shame to the state. Yitachu said since the rival group was misguided, the minister out of frustra-

tion had manhandled its own officer. “If they (rivals) cannot respect such a senior officer, they will never respect the common and poor people,” he said. He further said that both the governor and the chief minister did not have the courage to address the public, despite knowing the fact that the sitin protest had been going on for the past eight days. But on the other hand, he said “the chief minister chose to invite 11 bloggers for breakfast, boasting as if he cares for Nagas.” Yitachu reminded the rival group that the government was for the people and not for them. He also questioned Nagaland governor for deliberately ignoring the fact that an unconstitutional government was being allowed to run the affairs of the state.

NEW DELHI/HONG KONG, NOV 1 (IANS): Taking strong cognizance of the latest study claiming that common Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) like pantoprazole and rabeprazole may double the risk of developing stomach cancer, Indian doctors on Wednesday advised the fraternity to be cautious while prescribing such pills to patients. The study by University of Hong Kong researchers, published in the journal Gut, showed that taking PPIs was associated with a more than doubling (2.44) of the risk of developing stomach cancer, while taking H2 blockers like ranitidine was not associated with any such heightened risk. PPIs reduce the production of acid by blocking the enzyme in the wall of the stomach that produces the acid. “We know that due to significant acid suppression, PPIs can exacerbate atrophic gastritis which may lead to gastric cancer,” Sudeep Khanna, Senior Consultant (Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Therapeutic Endoscopy) at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals in New Delhi, told IANS. “Yes definitely, doctors should take a second call before prescribing PPIs to patients,” Khanna added.
