From today, he said, Zunheboto that is known as the “land of warriors” be changed and called as the “land of peace and prosperity”. A spirited people, the Sumis are known for their courage, dash and boldness and Zunheboto has produced many well-known Naga leaders. Zeliang urged the people to strengthen their resolve and look ahead to the future with renewed understanding and hope. “As Zunheboto town marches on to its next milestone of 100 years in another 25 years time, the Sumi people should be agents of transformation so that Zunheboto town will turn into a role model of a 21st century town with an enlightened

Acharya extends Ahuna greetings D I M A P U R , N OV 1 3 (NPN): Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya greeted the Sumi community on the occasion of Ahuna. In his message through PRO, Acharya called upon the Sumi community to thank the Almighty for his unwavering love and blessings. He reminded all to thank the farmers for their hard work, and informed the farmers on some of the welfare projects taken up the Central and State governments - soil testing, Kisan credit card, National Food Security Mission etc. Acharya also urged the Sumis to continue to safeguard and promote the rich culture and traditions and prayed that the festival bring peace, unity and communal harmony to all people.

citizenry,” he appealed. “It is an occasion to rejoice and jubilate. In the Christian tradition, jubilee is a time to look back at the decades gone by, to remember God’s faithfulness and give thanks to the Almighty, to forgive and forget past differences within individuals, families and clans and look ahead to the future. This is the time to look back and recall the sacrifices made by the founding fathers 75 years ago,” he added. He said over the years, Zunheboto had g rown steadily from a tiny hamlet to that of an ADC Subdivision in 1958 and subsequently a full-fledged district in December 1973.

“Being forthright by nature, the Sumis have a great capacity to mix freely with others. Zunheboto is uniquely located in the heart of Nagaland, thus sharing traditional boundaries with other Naga tribes like the Angamis, Aos, Chakhesangs, Changs, Lothas, Rengmas, Sangtams and Yimchungers. Likewise, in the Western and Northern Sumi areas, they share common boundaries with Zeliangs, Kukis, Kacharis, Karbis, Pochury and Assamese, except the Konyaks, Khiamniungans and Phoms. Such geographical proximity with different tribes has allowed the Sumis a unique posi-

tion in terms of inter-tribal relationship-building among communities, thereby being harbingers of creating harmonious co-existence over long periods of time,” he underlined. The Chief Minister also informed the gathering that the Centre had granted sanction for construction of six roads in the State. These include the 200-km Showuba-Guzunyu-Pughoboto-Zunheboto-AghunatoNoklak-Pangsha, 280-km Trans Eastern Highway from Mon-Longwa-Pangsha-Kiphire-Avangkhu, 167-km Gandhi Ashram Chuchuyimlang NH-2 to Pangsha (ITC) road, 75km road from Maibung

formers were reported to be outdated and overused. Power Grid corporation in Nagarjan has informed that one 20 MVA transformer might be available with the Corporation in Ar unachal Pradesh. However the formalities for transportation, getting it operational and installation would take a few more months. Since the requirement of transformer capacity for Dimapur is 80 MVA , department officials feel it would be practical to procure 100 MVA to cater to the present as well as future needs. The total cost of the 100 MVA was estimated at Rs.9 crore and other gear and equipments estimated at Rs.5 crore and totalling around Rs.14 crore. It remains to be seen if the state government has the inclination and will to provide the sum not only to serve people but also to earn the revenue.

D imapur , N ov 1 3 (NPN): Since Sunday afternoon of November 12, 2017 two-third (2/3rd) of Dimapur has been without electricity after one 20 MVA transformer at the Nagarjan sub-station burst into flames and was totally damaged. Power department officials are keeping their fingers crossed that the second 20 MVA transformer which bore the intense heat from the other burning transformer, could be repaired. This will be known only after it is charged (without load connection) to see if it is still functioning. However even if the second transformer can be used again, it can only help ease the problem to some extent. Presently only one 20 MVA transformer is supplying power to 1/4th of Dimapur, the remaining 2/3rd being without power. D I M A P U R , N OV 1 3 (NPN): Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT), Public Service Aspirants of Nagaland (PSAN), Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC), technical aspirant associations, students’ unions and various other public organisations under the banner of Public Coordination Committee (PCC) have called for a three-day sit-in programme at the New Secretariat Junction in Kohima from November 15 in support of its various demands. A statement issued by the PCC media cell said that the protest would start at 10 a.m. demanding setting up of a Lok Ayukta at the earliest, revocation of the decision to scrap ClassIII posts from the purview of Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC), declaration of marks and answer keys in all stages of NPSC examinations, (Cont’d on p-8) besides declaring waiting

BJP president Visasolie Lhoungu “without following the BJP party constitution”. However, they regretted that till date the state BJP leaders had not initiated any step to resolve the matter, but had only been involved in creating further misunderstanding and division among the rank and file of Kohima district committee. “It is utterly regrettable that despite reaffirming our loyalty towards the uplift and success of the BJP in the state, the state BJP Leaders had confused Party workers by involving in vested interest politicking of some unscrupulous individuals and adamant to destroy the Party from the grassroots level,” the statement said. lists, and immediate termination of all backdoor appointments made after June 6, 2016. PCC said the state government had time and again paid no heed to the common people’s voice and indulged in activities that could be termed as “repugnant”. Accusing the government of indulging in antipeople activities, the organisations added that its amateurish publicity stunts had made it a laughing stock, even as the people were being taken for a bumpy ride day in and day out. Stating that several other states of India had already set up Lok Ayukta, the organisations said setting up the institution in Nagaland would check the menace of corruption. “The Ombudsman which has its origin in Sweden has been set up in several countries and has shown proven results in curbing

corruption. Why is the government of the day coming up with excuses not to set up Lok Ayukta? Are they afraid to come clean?” the organisations wondered. The PCC further stated that even as the number of civil service aspirants was increasing every year, the government showed a strange mindset by scrapping Class-III posts from the NPSC’s purview. “We all know departmental exams are a huge farce. This will open the floodgates of backdoor appointments. So this means 15,000 plus candidates (their numbers will increase in the coming years) will slog it out for some few posts,” the statement added. The PCC urged every right thinking citizens “tired of anti-people policies” of the State government to be at the sit-in venue New Secretariat Junction. “Be there to show your resentment, make your voice heard. We are taken for fools and mocked day in and day out. Let us make a sea of people stand in front of the seat of power and show that we can’t take any more mockery from their side,” the statement exhorted.

NEW DELHI, NOV 13 (NPN): North Eastern region is all set to get its first ever “Air Dispensary” based in a helicopter from 2018. For this, DoNER ministry has already contributed Rs. 25 crore as part of the initial funding for this initiative. Making this announcement after meeting with representatives of aviation sector and helicopter service/ Pawan Hans, Union DoNER minister, Dr. Singh said his ministry had been exploring the idea of introducing the air dispensary/OPD service for several months. “This could be the Central government’s gift to the people of Northeast,” he said. been accepted and was in its final stages. To begin with, Dr. Singh said the helicopter will be based at two locations-- Imphal and Shillong.
