HM asks DGs of border states to maintain vigil
NEW DELHI, AUG 18 (PTI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said police chiefs of border states should keep a watchful eye on the demographic changes taking place in the border areas. Shah was addressing the National Security Strategies (NSS) Conference 2022, which was at-tended by the top brass of the country’s police forces. The two-day conference held in Delhi discussed subjects like cryptocurrency, counter-drone technology, cyber and social media surveillance, emerging challenges due to 5G, demographic changes and growing radicalisation in border areas. Shah said it was the responsibility of the director generals of police (DGPs) to gather all technical and strategic information in their states, especially in the border districts.
3 colonies resolve against taxation D I M A P U R , AU G 1 8 (NPN): The heads of four colonies-- Lengrijan village, Industrial Estate, Aokong and Hill View-- have resolved to not entertain any individual, group or organizations to collect tax from their respective colonies. In a joint statement, the chairmen of four colonies expressed dismay over random collection of tax by various individuals, groups and organizations. They reaffirmed to stand by the October 2013 clarion call for “one government, one tax” and also appealed to all Naga political groups to unite and reconcile in the interest of the people. In another incident, police special operation team arrested three persons for their involvement in “organized syndicate operating in the vegetable wholesale market in Dimapur.” According to police, the three persons– Rakesh Kumar, Islam Uddin and Samir Ali, were allegedly involved in the racket and were extorting and collecting money from the market and handing it over to various underground groups. A case had been registered under East Police State, police said.
D I M A P U R , AU G 1 8 (NPN): Power department has informed that there would be shutdown of power supply in and around Dimapur town in a phased manner from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. starting August 20-31, 2022. Dimapur electrical division executive engineer Er.Y Akito Sema informed that the power shutdown was being necessitated in view of maintenance work for shifting of existing 11 kV lines as well as LT lines to the newly constructed trunk lines. ‘Infection’ most prevalent ailment in Nagaland: Survey level parameters on health and education in Nagaland pertaining to the period July 2017-June 2018, found that about 6% of the rural population and nearly 5% of the urban population reported as ailing during a 15-day reference period. It also found that 83% of ailments in rural areas and 66% in urban areas were treated at government/ public hospitals. About 85% of women received pre-natal care and 76% received postnatal care in both rural and urban areas. Around 55% of the aged population (60 years & above) in rural areas and 72% in urban areas were
economically independent. The survey found that 100% of children aged 0-5 years in rural areas and 99% in urban areas had received some vaccination. Survey on Household Social Consumption on Education in Nagaland found that nearly 87% of households in rural areas and 73% of households in urban areas reported availability of primary school within 1 km from the house. It also found that 5.4% of persons aged 15 years and above were ‘not literate’ while 14.2% were literate up to primary level and 15.2% were Graduate and above.

Estimated male population between age 3 to 35 years was 401000 (304000 in rural & 97000 in urban) while that of female was 331000 (251000 in rural & 80000 in urban). D I M A P U R , AU G 1 8 (NPN): DC Kiphire has refuted the claims made by Amahator Range Students’ Union (ARSU) and Amahator Area GBs Union (AAGBU) concerning the “unequal fund distribution” under Kiphire aspirational district projects. In a press release, DC Kiphire, T Wati Aier, stated that he had a meeting with ARSU and AAGBU and clarified that funds approved and sanctioned by various Ministry/CSR till date was only Rs.12.18 crore and not Rs.35 crore as alleged them.
