Clean chit to CJI on harassment case Over 63.5% turnout in Phase-V; violence in J-K, WB panel were not submitted to Justice Ramana as he was part of the Committee when it was constituted. On April 25, Justice Ramana recused himself after the complainant expressed her reservations over his inclusion on the ground that he is a close friend of CJI and a regular visitor to his house. In Justice Ramana’s place, Justice Bobde had inducted Justice Malhotra as the woman had also alleged that the Committee was not formed in accordance with Vishaka guidelines laid by the top court. The allegations against the CJI had become public on April 20 when some news web portals had come out with the stories.
and her “worst fears” have come true shattering all hope of justice and redress from the highest Court of the land. The woman, who issued a press statement, said that she will consult her lawyer and decide on the next steps. “Today, I am at the verge of losing faith in the capacity of our system to deliver justice to the weak and vulnerable who are pitted against the powerful within the system itself,” she said, adding that the panel refused her plea to allow her to accompany a lawyer and video record the proceedings. Further, she said she learnt from media that the CJI appeared before the committee to record his statement but she does not have any knowledge whether other persons who were aware of the allegations were called before the panel or not. The woman said she was extremely “scared and terrified” because the InHouse Committee, has not given her justice or protection and said nothing about the absolutely mala fide dismissals and suspensions.
NEW DELHI, MAY 6 (PTI): Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi Monday got a clean chit from the Supreme Court’s In-House Inquiry Committee which “has found no substance” in the allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him by a former woman employee of the apex court. Please take note that in case
of Indira Jaising vs Supreme Court of India and Anr (2003), it has been held that the report of a committee constituted as a part of the In-House Procedure is not liable to be made public,” the notice said. It further said: “The In House Committee has submitted its report dated May 5, 2019 in accordance with the In House Procedure, to the next senior judge competent to receive the report and also sent a copy to the judge concerned, namely, the CJI.” The Committee submitted its report to Justice Arun Mishra -- number four in seniority. One witness said it was a “miracle” anyone escaped, the BBC reported. The Superjet 100 was flying from Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport to Murmansk, a Russian city in the Arctic circle, when an emergency on board forced it to turn back to the airport.
Its crew sent a distress signal when “malfunctions” occurred in bad weather shortly after take-off at 6.02 p.m. (local time). After making an emergency landing at the airport, the plane’s engines caught fire on the runway, Aeroflot said, adding that the crew “did everything to save the passengers”. The aircraft landed with full fuel tanks because the crew lost contact with air traffic controllers and decided it was too dangerous to dump fuel over Moscow, Russian news agency Interfax said. Earlier reports said that the plane had landed on fire, but Interfax reported that the jet caught fire after a “very bumpy landing”. “There were 78 people including crew members on board the plane. According to the updated info which the investigation has as of now, 37 people survived,” the Investigative Committee said in a statement.
