BJP justifies appointment of leaders as PDA members

D I M A P U R , M AY 4 (NPN): State BJP has justified appointment of its senior leaders as members of PDA by asserting that this will not be a burden to the State exchequer but rather accelerate the pace of development in the long run. In a statement issued on Friday by its media cell, BJP, while understanding the public apprehension over these appointments, assured it would usher in development and open windows for funds to pour into the State with collective effort. It also urged the people not to jump the gun but give some time to the PDA government to revitalise the State’s economy. The party also thanked chief minister, Neiphiu Rio for showing “magnanimity” by appointing its senior leaders as members of PDA. Stating that these appointments were not only in the spirit of

coalition, but a well-thought strategy to strengthen the alliance and ensure smooth functioning of the government, BJP pointed out that elections are simply not won by legislators alone but require active support and coordination of partymen. And referring to senior political party members as “mere” party leaders exposes the shallow mindedness and ignorance of party politics and governance in a multi-party democracy, it added. BJP asserted that these appointments also will ensure that the commitments made by the alliance before polls are effectively fulfilled in coordination with the government at the Centre. The party also congratulated leaders from other political parties under PDA on becoming a part of the government.

D I M A P U R , M AY 4 (NPN): Terming it as ‘antistate’ and suicidal, Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) has demanded that the proposal to implement Nagaland Special Development Zone (NSDZ) be revoked without further delay. In a representation to the chief minister Neiphiu Rio, NTC president Toniho Yepthomi and general secretary Nribemo Ngullie pointed out that the intention of NSDZ was to curve out the plain sector of the state for outsiders for permanent settlement. It said nonindigenous people from outside Nagaland will virtually overwhelm the earmarked area, which will eventually be the base for intrusion of unauthorized citizens to take control of Nagaland. The council also raised several issues pertaining to the state like the Nagaland Land and Revenue (Amendment) act, 1978, Intanki National Park, extension of BEFR Act to cover the entire administrative jurisdiction of Nagaland, revocation of ‘Disturb Area Act, objection to Uniform Civil Code etc. (Full text on p-6)

upon the vendors to be aware about the various provisions of the Street Vendors Act and remain vigilant and pro-active in getting the law implemented. “This will not only benefit the vendors but will also be an ‘affordable’, ‘healthy’ as well as ‘convenient’ service to the majority of the population,” Governor Acharya stated. Further, the governor stated that vegetable vendors sometimes were forced to sell their vegetables at distress price to avoid the trouble of carrying back perishable vegetable to their villages. Naga nationalism can proliferate and our minds need imagination and creative politics.” Pointing to the formation of the FNR on March 15 2008 by 39 Naga organizations from all across Naga areas, the convenor informed that given the ‘intricate’ situation and problem, the FNR was conceived ‘in this urgent context’.
