NEW DELHI, MAY 3 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday said intolerant Indians don’t find place in Indian ethos. Mukherjee spoke at the 64th National Film Awards presentation ceremony, praising the Indian film industry for promoting a message of universal brotherhood and tolerance. “There’s diversity of India in the film industry... It conveys one message -- universal brotherhood, tolerance, co-operation, coexistence, and the message that successful filmmakers have made is that we maybe argumentative, but we can’t be intolerant. “Intolerant Indians don’t find place in Indian ethos, in Indian culture and Indian soil and I am happy that Indian film industry has never forgotten to convey this basic message to people,” he added. The President was delighted to see a sort of “mini India” represented by the diverse talent from the length and breadth of the country at the Vigyan Bhavan here. He was especially happy about the strides the younger generation is mak-

ing towards creating visibility for Indian talent in the international circuit. “When the young generations take it off, we can feel safe and secure and our national interest will be safe and well-protected,” Mukherjee added. Asserting that freedom of speech and expression+ is guaranteed to every Indian by the Constitution, the President reiterated saying: “There should be no room in India for the intolerant Indian”. President Pranab Mukherjee, who has been vocal on the issue, had earlier stated that India’s traditions never allowed the practice of intolerance as unity in diversity with mutual coexistence and understanding is the strength of the country. He said this while
speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the ‘Namami Brahmaputra’ festival. “There are 200 languages spoken in India across its length and breath. All major seven religions are practised in India. Nowhere in the world is found so much ethnic diversity,” he said, adding, “despite this, India is one nation having one Constitution, living under one flag, one system maintaining regional identity”. “We are one nation. This mutual co-existence, mutual understanding is our strength. Managing this diversity is our greatest strength. If it is said Indians are argumentative, I will agree. But if it is said Indians are intolerant, I refuse to agree. Intolerance has never been allowed,” he said. Earlier, the President had also cautioned law makers never to take people for granted. “They (law makers) must focus on the fundamental task of law making and raising of issues of concern to the people. The trust placed by the people in the political system and those elected should not be betrayed,” he said.

cleansing the electoral roll in the Nagaland. He also said that the Church must stand against any element that seeks to infringe on one’s faith with religious ideologies in the name of politics or political party. The Church, he said would always be on guard and be vocal against such designs, saying this should not be construed as going against clean election campaign code of conduct. In his keynote address, Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) executive secretary, Rev. Dr. Mar Atsongchanger, said clean election must not only confine to vote but must involve
the Naga national leaders. Rev. Dolie said that casting vote should be free from external coercion or allurement as clean election campaign aimed at educating voters to abide by the code of conduct and guidelines of Election Commission. He pointed out that taking away the rights of others by capturing booths or personating someone was sin and evidently, brings stark enmity among the Church members. He said Naga society was filled with hatred, discrimination, corruption, injustice, tribalism, khelism, clan-ism, nepotism, escapism, and immorality thereby in the context of all these sufficient problems, the Church is expected to do what it can in cleaning up the recurring election mess and evils. On the occasion, Rev. Dr. Mar Atsongchanger also released the book on “A journey of Nagaland into the next Millinium” authored by Phuveyi Dozo. Leaders of various Churches, members from Oriental Theological Seminary and others attended the one day seminar.

The minister said when people are ignorant about things, they tend to spread rumours. To have better connectivity, more infrastructure would be required, he pointed out. “(Such) radiation has no adverse impact on human health. During the last 30 years, the WHO has conducted some 25,000 campaigns on this subject and never stated that mobile tower radiation has adverse impact on human health,” he said. Sinha said the launch of Tarang Sanchar portal will definitely help in clearing myths and misconceptions in public minds on mobile towers and EMF emissions from them.

general elections, the Congress has lost polls in Assam, and Manipur, while defection in the party allowed the BJP to form the government in Arunachal Pradesh. Nagaland, too, is ruled by the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN), a combine in which the BJP is a partner. The BJP has also made deep inroads in the Congressruled Meghalaya, and the Marxist of Tripura. A senior All-India Congress Committee (AICC) leader told ET: “The AICC has decided to empower state leaders. Facebook Inc will add 3,000 people over the next year to monitor reports of inappropriate material on the social media network and removing videos such as murders and suicides, Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said on Wednesday. Zuckerberg, the company’s cofounder, said in a Facebook post the workers will be in addition to the 4,500 people who already review posts that may violate its terms of service. The hiring spree represents an acknowledgement by Facebook that, at least for now, it needs more than automated software to improve monitoring of broadcasts on Facebook Live, a service that has been marred since its launch last year by instances of people streaming violence. Last week, a father in Thailand broadcast himself killing his daughter on Facebook Live, police said. After more than a day, and 370,000 views, Facebook removed the video. Other videos from places such as Chicago and Cleveland have also shocked viewers with their violence.
Cong frustrated and diminishing: BJP D I M A P U R , M AY 3 (NPN): Nagaland BJP unit has hit back at the Nagaland Pradesh Congress committee (NPCC), stating that their intolerant statements have shown the real frustration of the party as it was diminishing in all electoral fronts. BJP unit media cell said Congress was restless to see the rapid growth of the BJP across the country, since most of the Congressmen had deserted the party knowing that it was sinking. BJP said its government was firm in providing corruption-free and good governance unlike the Congress which had ruled the nation for many years with corruption at all levels. It reminded NPCC that the Congress’s dynastic politic was fading away as people had lost confidence. In this regard, BJP unit appealed to the people “not to be swayed by the rumours or cheap political propagan-
da”, but to have confidence in the Indian constitution which provides protection and guarantee the freedom of religion or faith to every citizen. It claimed that since BJP had emerged as the largest secular political party in the world, it wanted the state of Nagaland to also witness the pragmatic approach for all round development in the near future. BJP being a dynamic political party was determined to make India free from Congress, the media cell stated. “And so if the NPCC has sense, then it is better for them to join the secular party for all round development,” it added. It further clarified that the BJP was a secular political party for good governance and registered under the Election Commission of India while RSS was a cultural organisation. With regard allegations on events being held on
Christian holy days, BJP said since former PM AB Vajpayee, was born on December 25, the government of India had declared the day (Dec 25) as Good Governance Day on account of his birthday which also coincides with the Christmas day. However, it reminded that the BJP unit including the state government observe Good Governance day either before or after December 25. BJP further said that the Central government had also declared Digital India Day on April 14 on the occasion of Dr. Ambedkar’s birthday to acknowledge the father of Indian Constitution and social reformer. However, BJP said though God Friday date keeps changing every year, this year (2017) the birthday of Dr. Ambedkar coincided with Good Friday. It also pointed out that the International Yoga Day on June 21 was declared by the United Nation. K Y M C
