DIMAPUR, MAY 2 (NPN): Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department Thursday informed that severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’, which has its roots in the Bay of Bengal, was likely to impact northeast. According to NSDMA, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a warning stating that thunderstorms, accompanied by gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph speed and lightning were very likely to occur in Nagaland and other states of North-East. It stated that heavy rainfall was also likely to occur in between May 3-6, 2019. In view of cyclone ‘Fani’, Nagaland would experience light to moderate rains throughout the week with rains picking up pace by the weekend. According to NSDMA Weather forecast, Cyclone Fani as a weaker system (Cont’d on p-12) would be travelling across the

NPF serves show cause notice on 8 functionaries D I M A P U R , M AY 2 (NPN): A day after eight NPF central office bearers expressed dissent against the party decision to suspend and subsequently file disqualification petition against seven rebel MLAs, Naga People’s Front (NPF) Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) has served show cause notice on the eight office bearers and directed them to submit their reply in written within seven days from the publication of the show cause notice. The DAC directed the eight functionaries to show cause as to why the disciplinary action should be initiated against them. The show cause notice issued by DAC convenor Blaise Iheilung and secretary, Tsumongo Ovung, reminded that the seven erring MLAs openly defied the party’s collective decision in the recently concluded Parliamentary election for

the lone Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency. DAC said intention of the eight office bearers in openly questioning and challenging the decision of the Party was “total breach of Party discipline.” The eight central office bearers include S Akang, General Secretary, Central; Nokshom, Secretary, Central; Bendang Chang, Secretary, Central; Honpha, General Secretary, Youth Wing, Central; Kupwang, General Secretary, Youth Wing, Central; Yongwem, CEC Member; Shanyei, CEC Member and Manlem, CEC Member. “These days, I’m not sure whether we or the EVMs will give the verdict.” K Y M C

MOKOKCHUNG/DIMAPUR, MAY 2 (NPN): HSLC topper, Wangshitemjen Ozukum, from Queen Mary Higher Secondary School Mokokchung, who scored 588 out of 600 marks, said news of him topping the HSLC examination 2019 was quite unexpected. Following the declaration of results, the 16-year old boy along with his father Tulumatsung and mother Opangnenla had a casual interaction with the media persons at his parental

home at Anangmen Sector, Mokokchung village, Thursday evening. On being asked about his future plans, Wangshitemjen coyly replied that he has not yet decided, but was confident that he would take up science for his further studies. He, however, said that even the school and the place for class XI was yet to be decided. On being queried about the guiding force for his success, he promptly replied that God was with him and the main guiding force for his success. Besides, he said his parental guidance and words of encour-

agement from friends and relatives were another factor that guided him. He also attributed the success to his teachers at school, saying it was their teaching and guidance that brought him success. On being asked about his time for studies and preparations for the exam, he replied that his study hours were not lengthy, but rather short with full attention and concentration. Elated parents of Wangshitemjen Ozukum said that since class I, their son’s results were always in 1st division and never required of him to give particular attention in

his studies. HSSLC toppers in Arts, Commerce and Science streams talked to Nagaland Post on Thursday and shared their success mantra. Arts stream topper: Imtijungla Pongen from Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur scored 472 marks (94.40%). Imtijungla Pongen (18), who resides at Lengrijan, said she was shocked when she got to know she secured the top position in the HSSLC Arts exam. As a matter of fact, she did not even expect to be in the top 10. She said she solely focussed on giving her best and did not give much thought on what rank she would score. Her father Ningsangwaba though, after interacting with her after every paper she appeared, expected her to be in the top 10 and to score around 91 percent. Her mother Tinanungla said she ensured Imtijungla took care of her health and following a study schedule (Cont’d on p-10) religiously.

north-eastern states. By May 5-6, 2019, fairly widespread rain and thundershowers over most places and heavy to very heavy rains in isolated places were expected. Through this press release, NSDMA appealed to the public to be vigilant during this period. Public are requested not to shelter under large trees and near the river banks to prevent unnecessary risk to life from lightning and flash flood. In a press release, OSD to the government of Nagaland, Johnny Ruangmei said NSDMA has requested one team of NDRF to be stationed at CTI, Home Guard and Civil Defence, Toluvi, Dimapur for deployment and rescue operation to any eventuality. And in coordination with Home Guards and Civil Defence, the State Disaster Response Force has also been alerted for immediate response and operation.

NPCC seeks response from ECI DIMAPUR, MAY 2 (NPN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has sought a detailed clarification from Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India on inclusion of cost incurred in printing additional polling agent forms by Congress candidate as part of election expenditure and also cite reasons thereof. In a letter to CEC, NPCC working president Khriedi Theunuo said his party had sent a letter on April 5 to Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking to know whether printing of polling agent forms by a candidate came under his or her election expenditure and reasons thereof. To this, the chief electoral officer’s office (vide letter no. ELE/ CDT-92/2018/88, dated 5.4.2019) had replied that the expenditure incurred by the candidate or political party on printing of forms for appointment of polling a g e n t , (Cont’d on p-12)

GDRN/NNC (N-A) refute claims of former members

DIMAPUR, MAY 2 (NPN): Reacting to news published on Thursday “NNC/GDRN (N-A) no longer exists, claims former leaders”, the collective leadership of the organisation asserted that there was no iota of truth in the claim made by Kumcho and Hangping. In a statement issued by its information & publicity wing, NNC (N-A) further claimed that its president Kiumukam is a trustworthy individual who never lived his private personal interest at any point of time. If at all interested to lead a luxurious life as accused by Kumcho and Hangping, he would at least not be living on rent, it added. The organisation clarified that Kiumukam was once arrested by 32 Assam Rifles in 2016 because he stood for Naga sovereignty and was under the paramilitary force’s custody for eight days. And it was during this period that political upheaval occurred and Kumcho and Hangping, and those with different political interests, began to accuse Kiumukam and declared his impeachment through the “so-called urgent national hoho” conducted without speaker at chair.
