DIMAPUR, MAY 30 (NP): Following reports of measles outbreak in various parts of the state, Dimapur district heath authorities on Wednesday informed that few measles cases have also been reported in Dimapur. In a press note, Dimapur district Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. K. Vikato Kinimi said few cases of measles have been brought to the notice of the district health authorities. In this regard, CMO has asked the local authorities, GBs, council chairmen etc. to immediately inform the district health authorities if there are any persons down with high fever accompanied by rashes in their respective localities without delay. It may be noted that measles outbreak was first reported in Zunheboto district and in some other parts of the State. According to a data provided by Zunheboto DPO (RCH and UIP) Dr Alemwabang Aier, 50 measles cases had been reported from Aghunato town, Shevishe and Lukikhe as on May 28. Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department has sent blood, urine and throat swab samples collected from patients to New Delhi for laboratory tests.

SSSUD not to pay tax to forest, G&M deptts D I M A P U R , M AY 3 0 (NPN): Sand stockists & supplies union Dimapur (SSSUD) has decided to stop paying tax to the department of environment, Forest & Climate Change and the department of Geology Mining (G&M) with effect from June 1, until the government decide which department was authorised to collect tax on sand-laden vehicles. In a press note, SSSUD president, Viniho Shohe, and secretary, Nito Sumi, said they were not in a position to continue paying tax to two departments on the same item. The union stated that G&M department issues money receipt while forest department issue token in a small piece of paper at both new field and Delai check gates. In this regard, the union has requested the state government to clarify as the earliest to which department was authorised to collect. The union also cautioned that the two departments would be held responsible in the event of any untoward incident that occurred during civil disobedience. Meanwhile, SSSUD also informed all its members to gather at new field and Delai gate at 4:30am on June 1, 2018.
D I M A P U R , M AY 3 0 (NPN): Following accusation from NPF, NDPP has clarified that it did not file any FIR along with BJP against NPF president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu for allegedly giving an inflammatory speech during an election rally at Kohima recently. In a statement issued by its media & communication committee, NDPP claimed that along with BJP it had only filed complaint with returning officer of Nagaland parliamentary constituency and Election Commission of India (ECI) against Dr. Shürhozelie for violating Section 3 of election model code of conduct (MCC), Section 125 of the Representation of People’s Act (RPA), 1951 and Section 153A of Indian Penal Code (IPC). DIMAPUR/KOHIMA/ MOKOKCHUNG, MAY 30 (NPN): Banking operations in the state were paralysed as employees of the public sector banks (PSBs) under the banner of United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella body of nine bank unions (AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF, INBOC, NOBW and NOBO), supported by private sector banks began their two-day strike Wednesday. Protest demonstrations were held in Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung against a meagre 2% salary hike offer and delay in resolving charter of demands by Indian Banks Association (IBA). secretary, T.A. P. Paul, stated that all private banks that are not members of UFBU also extend their support and solidarity to the cause. “Our members have met some of the Pvt Banks in Dimapur and they have cooperated with us and extend the same till tomorrow,” Paul said. Further, he informed that since all member banks were closed normal transaction was affected. In Kohima, the striking employees staged protest demonstration at SBI main branch Kohima. Addressing the gathering at the protest site, the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) Nagaland convenor, A Lolly Moses, highlighted the demand of the bank unions. NEW DELHI, MAY 30 (IANS): Prices of petrol and diesel were cut by one paisa on Wednesday after the Indian Oil Corp’s (IOC) website initially showed a fall of around 50-60 paise per litre. IOC described the incident as a “technical glitch” and clarified that actual price cut was of one paisa a litre. “There was a technical glitch in posting the selling prices on our website today. The selling prices of petrol and diesel w.e.f. May 30, 2018 have been rectified on our website,” IOC spokesperson said. Oppn attacks Modi: Opposition parties attacked the Centre over the 1 paisa cut in fuel prices by state-owned oil companies, with the Congress saying if this was PM Narendra Modi’s idea of a “prank”, it was “childish and in poor taste”. While the CPI(M) demanded a roll back in prices of petrol and diesel, CPI alleged that the government had given absolute autonomy to the oil companies to decide on a key issue which affected the lives of the people.

D I M A P U R , M AY 3 0 (NPN): Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya, on the eve of ‘World No Tobacco Day’, has called for collective action to reduce the burden of disease, death and economic consequences caused by tobacco use and exposure to second-hand smoke (SHS) globally. ‘World No Tobacco Day’ is a global campaign, inviting everyone – from global leaders to the public in all countries – to focus on the health risks associated with tobacco use and to advocate for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption. Banking services affected as employees begin strike
MON, MAY 30 (NPN): A non-Naga youth was held here on Wednesday on the charge of raping a minor girl. According to reports, 20-year-old Rahul Sen (as per ILP), son of Subrata Sen of Namrup Bengal Gaon in Assam’s Dibrugarh district, allegedly raped a 13-yearold girl. He was working as an assistant at a watch
repair shop at Mon Town Bazaar Line. It was also reported that the victim was allegedly raped twice earlier by the same person and was threatened of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone. The incident came to light only her elder sister grew suspicious and enquired as the victim complained of abdominal pain and was unable to sit or walk properly. Sources said when family members of the victim were on their way to police station to hand over the accused, a mob took Rahul into their custody, paraded him naked and kept him near the private bus station. Subsequently, a huge crowd gathered and began to manhandle the accused. A police team and district administration officials soon reached the spot and
managed to take away the accused from the mob after a brief tussle. In the process, some policemen sustained minor injuries, police sources said. A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Meanwhile, a press release note Yuching Students’ Union (YSU) president Ponwang and assistant general secretary Sheihlong strongly condemned the incident. YSU stated that such monsters in human disguise have no place in the society. YSU appealed to every civil society organisations and NGOs to condemn such inhuman acts.
