D I M A P U R , M AY 2 5 (NPN): Tenants’ Association Naga Shopping Arcade (TANSA), Dimapur has resolved not to pay the enhanced rent from April 2019 if the demands of the association were not met. In a representation addressed to the chairman of Development Authority of Nagaland (DAN), TANSA president, Pukhaho

Yepthomi, and the secretary, Yarmong stated that the association has been requesting the department to look into matters of hygiene, maintenance of complex building, drainage system etc. The tenants have been diligently abiding with DAN and paying the rent and maintaining basic restoration at their own cost, the association stated. However, they said it was unfair when monthly rent is enhanced

without fulfilling the plea of the tenants. What irked the tenants most was the imposition of 15% service charge besides the monthly rental without undertaking any maintenance work, the association president said. Therefore, TANSA has asked DAN to completely maintain the structures which has become insecure due to non-maintenance and to make the complex presentable by fixing windows, shutters, proper drainage system and clearance of water logging at the basement. “Unless and until DAN perform the requirements, TANSA will not comply with the office order and continue to pay the same rent (old rate),” the representation stated. It may be mentioned that the rent of Naga Shopping Arcade was enhanced from Rs.5 per square feet to Rs.9.50 per square feet for ground floor and for the first floor from Rs.4.50 psft to Rs.7.60 psft.

NH-29 LOU wants works stopped in objected areas D I M A P U R , M AY 2 5 (NPN): NH-29 Land Owner Union (LOU) claimed that individual land owners have requested them to stop road widening works from Purana Bazaar to Chumukidema until a consensus was reached with the government. In a press note, NH-29 LOU information &publicity secretary Kewetso Kenye stated that any untoward eventuality arising out of forceful approach would be unfortunate. LOU therefore, suggested that the government avoid areas where objections were raised for the time being or until the union next meeting with the DC Dimapur. NH-29 LOU reminded that DC Dimapur during May 8, 2019 meeting with the union along with GBs and chairman assured to convene a separate meeting after May 23, 2019.

two entities. It said that the Agreement was for the Nagas who inhabits 80% of the landmass of Manipur. “It will be a tragic travail to sabotage the peace initiative being endorsed and taken up with the support of United Nations’ Agencies, Unrepresented People’s Organization and other Democratic nations,” NH asserted. According to the Naga Hoho, there was nothing in the Agreement that would suppress the rights, history and territorial boundaries of Meiteis. The hoho said Meiteis should be aware that Nagas were a peace loving people, yearning to resolve the long drawn-out issue and assert their legitimate stand and rights without any bloodshed. “As good neighbors, we will share neighbourly relationship

in all generations to come and the Nagas understand that there are many respectable and learned Meitis with whom we enjoy brotherly rapport till-date,” NH added. NH, however, stated that a few organizations such as UCM “working with vested interests need pretentiously carry the sentiments of the majority residents of Manipur.” The hoho maintained that “an eye for an eye approach, if equally employed by Nagas” would result in “unmanageable proposition in the history of mankind.” Alleging that Manipur government was “arbitrarily represented by the Meiteis of Manipur”, NH said the voice of the tribal in hill districts was seldom upheld. “If the Meitei led government bows to the whims and fancies of

Meitei CSOs like UCM, the Nagas inhabiting the surrounding areas will be compelled to take up befitting measures in order to protect our rights,” the hoho asserted.

CAB issue misconstrued: Tokheho

D I M A P U R , M AY 2 5 (NPN): Reacting to Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president K. Therie’s statement, ridiculing Lok Sabah MP Tokheho Yepthomi’s recent views on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, the latter maintained that the issue has been misconstrued and has become a propaganda tool. Tokheho clarified that the issue has also been wrongly put in the public domain that once CAB is passed, the entire North East region will be overrun by “crores” of immigrants waiting at the borders of neighboring countries. “This notion is totally false and has misled a lot of people. The CAB will only grant immediate citizenship to immigrants who have entered India prior to 31 December 2014. To know the facts about the CAB we need to only look at the report of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on CAB,

NH objects to UCM ultimatum over extension of CF DIMAPUR, MAY 25 (NPN): Naga Hoho (NH) Saturday took “strong exception” to what it described the “unwarranted ultimatum” issued by United Committee of Manipur (UCM) on the ceasefire extension in all Naga areas. NH through its communication cell alleged that UCM had been provoking the Nagas from time to time on sensitive issues. The hoho said UCM statement came at a time when the peace-loving people were all eagerly waiting for the final solution to the “vexed IndoNaga political imbroglio at the highest level talks without territorial limits.” The Naga hoho reminded UCM that Naga people from Manipur state was a party to the ceasefire/Framework Agreement signed between the

five-member delegation of the UCM met state revenue minister Karam Shyam at the latter’s office chamber at New Secretariat, Imphal. The meeting was on an invitation from chief minister N Biren Singh, who is currently camping in New Delhi. After the meeting, UCM delegations told media that they agreed to relax the 72-hour deadline set by them till the chief minister returns from the national capital. They stated that during the meeting, they made a firm stand that the state government and Central government must clarify on NSCN (IM)’s claim. While assuring on behalf of the chief minister to take up the needful steps, the minister urged UCM to relax the deadline until chief minister retuned from New Delhi.

2016,” he added. The MP said that people who have twisted and propagated that the CAB will allow crores of refugees from neighboring countries into the Northeast India should try and comprehend the ramifications of their false notion on CAB. He asserted that the Parliament will only act within the proposed draft submitted by the empowered Committee. Tokheho reminded that the Joint Parliamentary Committee on CAB 2016 was constituted of both Houses consisting of 30 members, 20 from Lok Sabha and 10 from Rajya Sabha, including the Congress. He said the JPC undertook three study visits to Jodhpur from December 18 to 20, 2016, Ahmedabad and Rajkot (from April 18 to 20, 2017) and Guwahati, Silchar and Shillong (from May 7 to 11, 2018) where informal discussions were held with migrants/NGOs/

public representatives and other stakeholders to obtain firsthand knowledge. In the 14 sittings of the JPC, Tokheho said the committee took evidence of the representatives from Home ministry, Law & Justice ministry (department of Legal Affairs and Legislative department) and External Affairs ministry on the various provisions of the Bill. In response to the queries of the JPC-- about the number of persons belonging to minority communities, who would benefit from the proposed Amendment on the basis of religious persecution, Tokheho said the Intelligence Bureau (IB) had informed them as follows: “As per our records, there are 31, 313 persons belonging to minority communities (Hindus- 25447, Sikhs- 5807, Christians- 55, Buddhists- 2 and Parsis-2) who have been given Long Term Visa on the basis of (Cont’d on p-8)

Citizenship Bill threat to existence of Nagas: ANCSU DIMAPUR, MAY 25 (NPN): All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) Saturday maintained that the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2016 has “immeasurable threat” to the existence of Nagas. In a press release, ANCSU president Katho P Awomi general secretary Vimeyiekho Vitso said various political leaders of the state have “unwisely spoken” in favour of CAB, but young minds of the state clearly know that “this bill is catastrophe to the integrity of Nagas.” ANCSU said it was “extensively disturbed by the treacherous” CAB 2016, which it claimed was “not only against the interest of the whole NorthEast tribal citizens, but also an infringement to the peaceful co-existence of the region.” The union stated that the youths of the state have posed unflinching faith upon the lead-

ers over the years. However, it stated that “some egoistical political leaders” have taken the advantage even to the extent of “betraying the mandate of the youths and perhaps, even in a situation to compromise the safety of the Nagas just to please its leaders in return for personal benefits.” The union recalled that soon after the CAB was proposed, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) voiced out its opposition to the bill and ANCSU also fervently supported the movement. ANCSU has therefore appealed to the leaders to be the mouthpiece of Naga aspirations and “not a demon to Nagas.” The union also appealed to political/social leaders to restraint from “misleading the Nagas which may favour the CAB in action or otherwise as it may invite ugly retaliations towards any such betrayal.” K Y M C
