Aboh was the sitting MLA from the Khonsa West Assembly seat and was seeking re-election in the ongoing state assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh. One security officer, who sustained injuries in the incident, has been admitted to a hospital in Dibrugarh, DGP S.B.K Singh said. According to police, Aboh had earlier received death threats from the armed group. While condemning the attack Meghalaya chief

minister and NPP president, Conrad Sangma condemned the attack and urged Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action against those responsible for the attack. “Extremely shocked by unfortunate incident of killing of Khonsa MLA Tirong Aboh along with several others by insurgents,” tweeted Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu. Union minister Kiren Rijiju too expressed shock and urged “strongest possible action” against the suspects. “I’m shocked and saddened by the brutal attack and tragic killing of MLA Tirong Aboh of Arunachal Pradesh, his family including 11 people. D I M A P U R , M AY 2 1 (NPN): Counting of votes for the General Election to Lok Sabha 2019 from 1-Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency and by-election to Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 26 Aonglenden (ST) Assembly Constituency would to be held on May 23, 2019 from 8am onwards. State for ensuring smooth and proper counting. It stated that entire counting for the Parliamentary Constituency would be done at 13 locations in the State. In each of the 11 districts and in the Pughoboto sub-division, there would be a counting centre where the EVMs would be counted. In total, there would be 12 centres where EVMs would be counted and the counting of the postal ballot for the entire Parliamentary Constituency would be done in the Office of

the Returning Officer and Commissioner Nagaland, Kohima. The counting of votes for the by-election would be done by SDO (C) Hq. Mokokchung and Returning Officer at Mokokchung. NEW DELHI, MAY 21 (PTI): Barely two days before the Lok Sabha vote count amid projections of a return of the BJP-led NDA, Opposition parties Tuesday raised concerns over reports of alleged tampering of EVMs and asked the Election Commission to ensure transparency in counting. As protests erupted in Uttar Pradesh after videos of alleged movement and tampering of Electronic Voting Machines(EVMs) went viral on social media, a concerned former Presi-

dent Pranab Mukherjee also stepped in to say that the onus is on the EC to put all speculation around these machines to rest. Reacting to the protests, the Congress said the EC should take immediate and effective steps to address the complaints of movement of EVMs from strongrooms in various parts of the country. Dismissing as “frivolous” and “unfounded” the allegations of EVM tampering, the EC said the voting machines used for the seven-

phase polls that began on April 11 and ended on May 19 are “absolutely safe” in strongrooms Amid allegations and complaints that fresh EVMs were being switched with those used in elections ahead of counting of votes on Thursday, the Commission came out with a statement to “emphatically and unambiguously” clarify that all such reports and allegations are “absolutely false, and factually incorrect.” It said the visuals available on TV and social

media “do not pertain to any EVMs used during the polls”. Exit polls on Sunday projected that the NDA will retain power at the Centre. Already locked in a battle with the EC over the reliability of the EVMs, the opposition also got fresh ammunition to press for their demand of increasing the tallying the paper trail of votes (VVPATs) with EVM figures and submitted a memorandum to the poll panel. NDPP lashes out at opposition NPF

DIMAPUR, MAY 21 (NPN): Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has lashed out at opposition Naga People’s Front (NPF) for the latter’s alleged child-like behaviour in announcing on social media that it will sever ties with BJP in Manipur only after counting of votes of the Lok Sabha election. In a communiqué issued by its media & communication committee, the ruling party wondered whether NPF actually considered Naga people to be fools and not see through its doublespeak. By deciding to wait for the counting to be over, NDPP pointed out that it is clear that NPF wants to keep its option open, especially in the eventuality of BJP once again forming the government in New Delhi. And it will not come as a surprise if the party goes back on its decision once the BJP-led NDA forms the government, NDPP added. It alleged that the politics of NPF have reached such a low point that it seems to have lost “maturity and sanity” of a political party, “leave alone the tag of being the oldest regional party”. Denying the NPF allegation of practising dictatorship, NDPP accused the opposition party instead of practising the same and cited the “indiscriminate suspension, expulsion and disqualification” of its members as evidence.
