DIMAPUR: DC and DEO Peren, Smita Sarangi, has informed all polling personnel that the first round of training in connection with the ensuing election to the Nagaland Parliamentary constituency 2018 will be held on May 17 and 18 at GHSS Peren Town, 9:30 a.m onwards. A DIPR report stated that strict action would be taken against polling officers who fail to attend the said training. Also, ADC & DEO Pughoboto, Avelu Ruho has appointed presiding officers & polling officials 1,2, 3 & 4 (VVPAT) for the by-election polling duty. According to DIPR, round 1 trainings for presiding officers & polling 1, will held at 11 a.m at ADC Office and polling 2, 3 & 4 for VVPAT will be held at Town Hall at 11 a.m on May 19 and the Grade IV attendance will held on same day at ADC office at 11 a.m. Round 2 trainings for the presiding officers, 1st ,2nd ,3rd polling officials and polling for VVPAT and Grade IV will held at Local ground, Pughoboto at 11 a.m on May 23. No applications for exemptions from the training will be entertained unless the cases are cleared by the medical board on May 18. Some achievements of Pete VLO are: regular cleanliness drives in the village; ensuring proper implementation of mid-day meals for school children in the village; construction of community livelihood infrastructures through convergence with MGNREGA and ensuring proper provision of old age pensions in the village.

State by-election meeting held

DIMAPUR: Commissioner & Returning Officer, Motsuthung Patton, along with ADC (HQ) & ARO, Limanenla, held a 2018 Lok Sabha by-election meeting with general observers, political parties and liason officers on May 14 at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Commissioner, Nagaland. According to DIPR, while addressing the meeting, the Commissioner & RO reported that there were 12 AROs in the districts including Pughoboto sub-division, where counting will take place in all the AROs’ office on May 31. However, he further said that the final tabulation of result will take place at the Commissioner’s office, Nagaland after collecting the results from all the AROs in the districts. Election Duty Service (EDS) will be issued instead of postal ballot for all government officials who have been detailed for election duty, he added.

Motsuthung said that presently, five observers had been deployed by the Central Government to monitor the by-election and more observers are expected to come to monitor the counting centres. General Observer, Dr. J. Ravishankar, urged all political parties and stakeholders to maintain free and fair elections and to abide by the Commission’s guidelines. Expenditure Observers, Tsewang Tharchin and Michael Achom, while giving a briefing on expenditures, stated that all political parties have to come with their expenditure statements. They explained that Rs 75 lakh is the maximum amount for a candidate to meet election expenses and all expenses incurred by the candidates will be examined three times by the observers. For security related matters, police observer, Girija Shankar Jaiswal has been deployed for the entire state.

NSDMA predicts onset of monsoon

DIMAPUR:Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has stated that rain and thunderstorms were likely to drench the State on May 28. According to weather forecasts, the date will coincide with the onset of monsoon. Stating that the normal date of the onset of Southwest Monsoon will start on time, NSDMA said pre-monsoon activities would thus pick up its pace by May 28. NSDMA stated that the pre monsoon weather was attributed to the prevailing cyclonic circulation over West Bengal and adjoining region, which has been attracting humid winds from Bay of Bengal. These pre-monsoon activities will only occur during late evening, night or early morning hours, NSDMA stated. According to NSDMA, there was a significant increase in the monthly rainfall for Nagaland. It stated that the capital Kohima had already recorded 121mm of rain in the span of the first eight days in comparison to its monthly average rainfall of 165mm. Meanwhile, NSDMA has advised the public to stay safe and not make temporary huts for overnight halt or stay near river banks or under big trees to reduce hazard risks from flash floods/cloudbursts and lightning strikes.

DIMAPUR: Addl. Dy. Commissioner of Police/ PRO, Dimapur, Nagaland has released information about some cases handled by Dimapur Police in the past few days. On May 11, Dimapur Police received information from Childline Dimapur that on the day before, a baby boy was found at Khatihar Railway Station, Bihar along with an Avadh Assam Train ticket originating from Dimapur. Dimapur Police along with Childline Dimapur immediately started inquires and information was also circulated in social media. Through the prompt dissemination of the details and the timely circulation of information by the general public in various media platforms, the Police received a call from Kohima on May 11 from the family members of the child and the child was identified. The process to bring the child safely back from Bihar is on and further inquiries are being initiated to ascertain the facts of the case. Dimapur Police has extended appreciation to the general public and various media platforms for their cooperation which led to the timely intervention and identification of the child. On May 13, 41 Assam Rifle apprehended two persons, Zhovi Weo (45 yrs), S/o Late Hibu Weo, R/o. In another case on May 13, Dimapur Police conducted a surprise check at Nagarjan area, Dimapur where one person, Abhishek Kumar (21 yrs) was arrested for selling illegal IMFL from a pan shop and recovered about three cases of IMFL. In this connection a case has been registered at East Police Station Dimapur for further investigation. Dimapur police also apprehended one person while issuing information slips to business establishments at New Market area on May 14. The individual was identified as Himato Yepthomi, son of Atovi Yepthomi, of Yeveto village, PO/PS Niuland, present resident of Burma Camp, United North Block-A, Dimapur. Information slips issued by NSCN (K) finance department were recovered from his possession. In this connection, a case has been registered for further investigation. In Zunheboto, police conducted random frisking and checking of vehicles on May 12, near Doyang bridge and intercepted one Maruti 800 (WB-02Z-9042) carrying 21,576 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon (SP) and 480 bottles of cough syrup. According to SDPO Zunheboto, T. Zubenthung Ovung, the banned items were seized and driver Joy Sumi, son of Heshika and occupant, Lovito Yeptho son of Thohevi Yeptho were arrested. In this connection, a case has been registered under relevant acts.

NPP 45 Tehok A/C merges with NDPP DIMAPUR: National People’s Party (NPP), 45- Tehok Assembly Constituency (AC) party has dissolved and merged with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) on May 12 ahead of the May 28 Nagaland parliamentary constituency 2018 election. A press release by NPP Tehok A/C president, Nok-o and general secretary, Chingpai stated that the decision to merge with the NDPP was taken to strengthen the party and People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) under the leadership of NDPP president, Chingwang Konyak and chief minister, Neiphiu Rio.

In the midst of the academic session when terminal exams are approaching, this agitation jeopardizes the students’ careers, SMC said. It added that the teachers who had been performing their duties sincerely faced many hardships due to irregular payment of salary and had forced them to agitate.

Requisition of Mkg govt vehicles

DIMAPUR: Deputy Commissioner & Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) Mokokchung, Sachin Jaiswal, through DIPR stated that all government vehicles in the district have been requisitioned for the conduct of the Lok Sabha by-election for Nagaland. The vehicles in good running condition along with a driver should report to the transport committee at Imkongmeren Sports Complex on May 25 at 10 a.m. Failure to comply with this order will be dealt with as per Election Laws.

Pughoboto polling personnel informed

DIMAPUR: EAC Pughoboto, Nuhuta Tunyi has informed that in view of the Lok Sabha by-election, Election Duty Certificate (EDC) will be used during the present election. According to DIPR, all polling personnel who have been enlisted for Election Duty under Pughoboto have been directed to take note of the following dates with respect to EDC. EDC Forms are to be collected while reporting for training on May 19 and submission of the same will be open till May 23. K
