They made a strong plea that the contents should be disclosed so that, modifications, if any, could be done before finalizing the solution. The tribal Hohos also appealed to the state government to make all out efforts to bring both the NSCN (K) and the NNC (Adinno) to the negotiating table so as to include all the Naga national groups.

The House also appreciated the stand of the State government to pave the way for any alternative arrangement that may come about as a result of the political solution. D I M A P U R , M AY 1 1 (NPN): Alleging large-scale illegal taxation by various NPGs on business community in Nagaland’s commercial hub, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has appealed to the state government to immediately intervene in the matter and take corrective steps. Else, traders will be forced to shut down their business out of helplessness, it warned. In a press release, DCCI president Akashe K Zhimomi said there has been uncontrolled illegal collection spree by various NPGs like yearly, tax, agency tax, gate tax, transport tax, dealership, item-wise tax, etc, besides syndicate fee collected by various groups. Stating that 10-15 taxes were being paid on every item by the business community, Zhimomi pointed out that with such illegal multiple taxations, nowhere in the world can businesses thrive. According to DCCI president, all kinds of business in Dimapur have become unsustainable, except illegal collections. He said the business community feels totally insecure with threats and intimidations, besides being overburdened with illegal collections.
DIMAPUR, MAY 11 (NPN): On the occasion of International Nurses Day 2018, the Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, has said that sufficient, adequately trained and motivated nurses were essential for the health of the population and encouraged the Nurses to give their best every day to save lives. International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every year on May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. The theme for the 2018 International Nurses Day is “A voice to lead: Health is a human right.” In his message, Acharya saluted the service and determination of all Nurses working in the public and private sector of the State.
He said that nurses were the largest group of health professionals, who were the closest and often the only available health workers to the public. The governor opined that nurses have a great responsibility in protecting the health of the growing population as well as to contribute towards better healthcare and medical services. “Today nursing has evolved into a profession with wealth of skills and professional knowledge,” Acharya added. Further, the governor also called upon the citizens of Nagaland to thank all Nurses for the dedicated work they do every day to achieve good health and life for everyone.

NEW DELHI, MAY 11 (NPN): Union minister of state for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr Jitendra Singh on Friday informed that the DoNER ministry has recommended to the Finance ministry for higher allocation of funds and special package for development of tourism in the North Eastern states. After a meeting the with the Union minister of state for Tourism, KJ Alphons, Dr. Singh said they had discussed proposals for identifying new projects on priority basis for the North Eastern states. The meeting is part of ongoing inter-ministerial discussions for development of the region. He said under the North East Special Infrastructure Scheme (NESIDS), the DoNER ministry is providing financial assistance for projects of physical infrastructure relating to water supply, power and connectivity for promoting tourism in the region. This will be over and above the existing schemes
of the Central and State governments of the region, he added. Dr. Singh said under the North Eastern Council (NEC), work is also underway for promotion of theme-based regional tourism circuits. He further claimed that improved connectivity has already seen growth in tourism in the region, which has immense potential to generate employment. Alphons asserted that development of tourism and identifying new tourist hubs in the Northeast is a priority for his ministry, adding funds will be made available for the task. He said the region has great locations, which could be ideal as film shooting destinations, besides potentially becoming great attraction for tourists from South East Asian countries. The tourism ministry will provide support for boosting tourism avenues in the region, he added. DoNER secretary Naveen Verma and other senior officials of both the ministries were present at the meeting.
Power outage in few areas DIMAPUR, MAY 11 (NPN): Department of power has informed that there would be power shutdown in Lalmati area, Piphema, Pherima, Medziphema, Jharnapani, Jalukie and Peren on May 12, May 14 and May 15, 2018 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. In a press release, chief engineer (D&R), Er. Khose Sale, stated that power shutdown has been necessitated as the department would be carrying out 33kV line (AP1 & AP2) shifting work to facilitate the Dimapur-Kohima four-lane construction along NH-29. The department has requested the consumers to bear with inconvenience.
Central observers deputed for by-poll
DIMAPUR, MAY 11 (NPN): In view of the Lok Sabha by-election scheduled to be held on May 28, 2018, general observer from Central government have been deputed to monitor the polling process. According to DIPR, Dr. J. Ravi Shankar, IAS, will be stationed at Kohima to look after Kohima, Dimapur, Pughoboto, Phek, Peren, Zunheboto and Wokha districts whle, Manebendra Chakraborty, will be stationed at Mokokchung to look after Mokokchung, Mon, Tuensang, Longleng and Kiphire districts till the election process is over.
ZRSU dismayed over deplorable roads
DIMAPUR, MAY 11 (NPN): Zunheboto Range Students’ Union (ZRSU) has expressed dismay over the deplorable condition of NH-27 (Zunheboto to Asukhomi) and has urged the department concerned to carry out repair works at the earliest. In letter to EE (NH Mokokchung division), ZRSU president Kabo Kiba and general secretary pointed out that the blacktopping of road from Zunheboto to Asukhomi, done in 2017, and the carpeting of road within Zunheboto town under NH project carried out in October-November 2017 was in dilapidated condition due to poor workmanship. It further said that the blacktopping for New Colony portion was yet to be carried out. In this regard, ZRSU has asked the department to repair and complete the unfinished portions by May 2018. It warned that the union would be compelled to resort to its own course of action if their request was not addressed.
D I M A P U R , M AY 1 1 (NPN): Rongmei Naga People’s Organisation (RNPO) has reiterated its decision to disassociate from the Zeliangrong organisations and reaffirmed the historic declaration made at the Rongmei People’s Convention in Tamenglong on January 9, 2018. In a press note, RNPO media cell stated that the Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) and Zeliangrong Union (AMN) failed to uphold the interests of the Rongmei Naga tribe on many counts and alleged that their leadership had been working for personal gains. In this regard, RNPO said, any initiative, decision, move taken by any Zeliangrong organisation on behalf of Rongmei people at any platform will not be considered as valid nor will have people’s endorsement. It further warned that any individual from Rongmei community serving as office bearers in Zeliangrong organisations will be doing so at his/her accord and RNPO will not be responsible for their participation/ action.

DoNER ministry recommends spl tourism package for NE
DIMAPUR, MAY 11 (NPN): Incessant rains during the past few days triggered multiple landslides in part of Tuensang district and have been completely cut off the lifeline between Shamatore-Chessore and Chessore to Tuensang. In a press note, Y. Anner village council chairman, Y. Rikhum VCC stated that the roads have been blocked and the villagers were now facing hardships. It was also reported that many paddy fields and crops were damaged by mudslides. In this regard, the VCC has sought immediate help and intervention of the concerned authorities, particularly to restore the roads at the earliest.

The ruling Congress and the BJP are the main contenders for power, while JD(S) is likely to play the kingmaker, according to most surveys and opinion polls. There are more than 4.98 crore voters who are eligible to exercise their franchise to choose their representatives from a field of little over 2,600 candidates.
