Leaders should be farsighted, must see beyond tribes and parties: Azo

Azo releasing the KCS 25 years souvenir at Phek, Saturday. (NP) Correspondent KOHIMA, MAR 4 (NPN): Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, MLA said leaders cannot be shortsighted and live for the moment alone but should be farsighted and must see beyond tribes and parties. He regretted that the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) would go down in the annals of history as the most disturbing times of Nagaland and said the little time remaining should be judiciously used to promote peace, humility and oneness to strengthen Naga brotherhood. He said this on the occasion of 25 years silver an-

niversary celebration of Kiddies Corner School today at KCS Higher Section Phek. Azo said there was a time for everything under heaven and it was certainly a time for peace and tranquillity in the state of Nagaland. Azo pointed out that as leaders, one should own responsibility for the regretful incidents and the social setbacks that had taken place in the past few weeks which was totally unfortunate and disturbing. He questioned whether the leaders would be remembered alone for the cringing saga of bloodshed, contempt, misunderstanding, vengeance and retaliation

that has tainted “our” moral souls. He said governments and parties would come and go but Nagas as a people would remain thereby one should rise up above tribalism, parochialism or individualism to thrive as brothers. “Our world is truly magical and can be a heavenly abode when there is love and respect in your hearts but this world can be a living hell too when our hearts are infiltrated with hatred and jealousy “, Azo added. He also reminded to rethink the words “forgive and forget” and put these words to practice, to be free

from the bondage of suffering, self-destruction and the consuming bitterness that imprisons “us” today. Azo said that “our” mandate as Christians was to operate in the parameters of love, kindness, compassion and forgiveness. He thanked the pioneers of KCS for starting a school when it was needed the most and for the immense contributions it has given towards the society through the education it has imparted. He said without private schools, Nagaland would not have achieved what it was today and encouraged the initiative of setting up good private schools, educational institutions and colleges in Nagaland in the near future as these have become the strongest pillars of human resources development. He also congratulated the new chief minister, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu and expressed confidence that the education system in the state would improve in the days to come under his leadership as he was a stalwart in the field of education. The programme was chaired by Kuthovo while welcome note was delivered by Vekhozo Khamo chairman KCS.
