BJP keeping CAB alive, warns NPCC

DIMAPUR, MAR 16 (NPN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) Saturday termed BJP president Amit Shah’s February 17, 2019 statement in Assam-- that BJP will pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill if it comes to power after 2019 Lok Sabha polls-- detrimental not only to the interests of Nagaland, but the entire North East region. “We must defeat this idea of Amit Shah which is detrimental not only to the interests of Nagaland, but the entire NE,” NPCC president K. Therie stated. Urging all likeminded political parties, societies and organisations to support its Lok Sabha candidate, K.L. Chishi for the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha election, Therie said given opportunity, Congress assured “to scrap CAB, defend our faith at all costs” and also assured to deliver solution to the Naga issue. Congress said it was hopeful that likeminded political parties would support the Congress candidate in view of the common belief in the ideas of

USLP not to cooperate with GPRN/NSCN DIMAPUR, MAR 16 (NPN): United Sangtam Likhüm Pümji (USLP), in its meeting held on March 13, unanimously resolved to declare non-cooperation to the GPRN/NSCN in all matters. According to a press note by USLP president, Seopi Sangtam and general secretary P. Achumse Sangtam in a press note, the decision was made after the GPRN/NSCN failed to act on the seven-day ultimatum served on the latter on February 28-- to initiate action against GPRN/NSCN kilonser, Hukato in connection with the December 10, 2018 Sangtamtilla village incident. Despite ceaseless endeavour to resolve the matter in the greater interest of Naga political talk, USLP said GPRN/NSCN was adamant on shielding Hukato. USLP alleged that during the bandh called by Public Action Committee (PAC) in Dimapur on December 10 last, Hukato along with armed cadres came to Sangtamtilla village in four vehicles with the sole intention to incite fear and terrorized innocent villagers, women and children and burned down 18 houses.

secularism, opposition to CAB and of early political solution. “We hope they continue to stand by the political objectives which they have made before the people of Nagaland and the nation,” Therie added. He also pointed out at Asom Gana Parishad’s (AGP) flip-flop stand of renewing its alliance with the BJP after snapping ties from the NDA and NEDA in protest against CAB. “This has given the nation a wrong impression of the NE and we must not repeat this in Nagaland,” said Therie. Therie said K.L. Chishi, a matured, seasoned and tested statesman, was chose as Congress candidate after wide consultations to accommodate the views of likeminded parties, societies and groups. He also reminded that Indian National Congress and the founding fathers of Nagaland Congress had delivered political solution in the past and for which the state was enjoying the fruits of Statehood, protected under Article 371(A). “Give us another chance to deliver and if we do not, throw us out,” he said.
