Condemning the “delay in action to curb the riots and alleging intelligence “failure, several Opposition members demanded a probe by a Supreme Court judge.

DIMAPUR, MAR 12 (NPN): Naga Tribal Union C h u m o u k e d i m a Tow n (NTUCT) has petitioned chief secretary Temjen Toy seeking cancellation of backdoor appointments in the Police department. In a representation to the chief secretary and signed by its president Lhousiti Khro and vicepresident Akum Imchen, the union alleged gross manipulation in appointments to various ranks in the police department recently and reiterated its demand for cancellation of the appointments and call fresh and open recruitment. The representation mentioned that deputy chief minister Y Patton had stated during the fifth session of 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly that about 1,200 constable were appointed out of 1,698 accumulated post vacancies, leaving 400
posts vacant to be filled. And as per the RTI reply provided by IGP (Hqrs) and PIO Tokiumong, the police constables appointed from March 2018 to January 2020 district-wise indicated 1,140 appointments (which included 206 selected and appointed through open recruitments held on November 15, 16 and 18, 2019) where as the exact head count as per the detail names list there were only 930, thus leaving a mysterious non-existing figure of 210 missing. NTUCT pointed out that while the RTI reply had stated that altogether 272 posts were filled up through written and oral interviews in various ranks, reply to RTI question no. 2 stated that only 208 candidates were selected through open recruitments held on November 15, 16 and 18, (Cont’d on p-7) 2019.

As the Centre and the states ramped up their efforts to tackle novel coronavirus, which has claimed at least 4,600 lives globally and affected nearly 125,293, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked the countrymen not to panic and asserted that the government was fully vigilant. Modi also urged people to avoid non-essential travel, saying, “we can break the chain of spread and ensure safety of all by avoiding large gatherings. A day after it suspended all visas, except a few categories such as diplomatic and employment, till April 15, the government also announced that three planes will be sent in the next three days to bring back Indians stranded in Iran, one of the worst coronavirus-hit

DIMAPUR, MAR 12 (NPN): The criticism of the PDA government by NPF over the latter’s claims of achievements has once again triggered a war of words between NDPP and the principal opposition party in the State. In a statement, the ruling party observed that the oldest regional party was perhaps yet to grasp and accept the reality even after two years that the mandate of the people of Nagaland was with the PDA, and therefore was unable to conduct itself as a responsible opposition party. This only exposed the sorry state of affairs within the party and mental state of its leaders for having to sit in the opposition bench, it added Referring to NPF’s allegation of poor infrastructure, including roads, NDPP said this only showed how
egoistical mindset of NPF had blinded it to huge improvement in the condition of roads and other infrastructure in the past two years after the PDA government had taken over. It suggested that the opposition party should open its eyes to the various people-centric programmes and activities undertaken by the PDA government for the people’s welfare, besides paying attention on the roads and infrastructure. Mentioning that NPF had much to answer to the people for mis-governance, corruption and disunity between 2014-18, the ruling party asserted that it was for the people of Nagaland to decide whether the PDA government was doing well or not and not the opposition party, which produced the worst regime in the history of the State under its
leaders TR. Zeliang and Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu. Responding to NPF questioning the PDA government on the Naga political issue and human rights activists of the State, NDPP expressed shock that the opposition party would resort to these matters when its own legislators were very much a part of Joint Legislators’ Forum (JLF) as well as members of Core Group of JLF since all issues on the peace process and related matters were discussed threadbare in the JLF meetings and the Core Group. NDPP said such immature statements exposed the poor state of affairs within NPF since in any political organisation there was constant communication between elected representatives and party organisations.
