Holi shock for Cong, Scindia quits party
COVID-19 cases climb to 50 in India
14 more cases MP GOVT TEETERS ON EDGE AS 22 MLAS ALSO RESIGN ; SCINDIA LIKELY TO JOIN BJP in Kerala, K’taka, Pune expelled Scindia, the party His father Madhavrao
NEW DELHI/BHOPAL, MAR 10 (PTI): In a massive setback for the Congress, its prominent youth leader Jyotiraditya Scindia quit the party and in a coordinated rebellion on Tuesday 22 MLAs loyal to him resigned in Madhya Pradesh, pushing the 15-month-old Kamal Nath government to the brink of collapse. Scindia, 49, appeared set to join the BJP, a party which had his late grandmother Vijaya Raje Scindia as one of the leading lights amid speculation he may get a Rajya Sabha ticket and be
made a union minister. The four-time parliamentarian Jyotiraditya Scindia resigned from the Congress, shortly after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. He is expected to join the BJP sometime this week, days after criticising the party over violence in Delhi, and is likely to be rewarded with a Rajya Sabha seat and subsequently a berth in the union cabinet. There was no official word on what transpired at the meetings. However,
general secretary and scion of the erstwhile Gwalior royal family, on charges of anti-party activities. In the resignation letter dated March 9 to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Scindia said “it is now time for me to move on” as he was unable to serve the people of the country while remaining in the party. Noting that the events of the day had been drawing themselves out for a year, Scindia said it was now best for him to look at a fresh start. The Congress party said his letter was received at Sonia Gandhi’s residence only at 12.20 pm on Tuesday, a day which was also Scindia’s father and Congress leader Madhavrao Scindia’s 75th birth anniversary. Scindia’s decision to quit was welcomed as ‘ghar wapsi’ by his paternal aunt and BJP MLA from Madhya Pradesh, Yashodhara Raje. His another paternal aunt Vasundhara Raje is also a BJP leader and a former chief minister of Rajasthan.
Scindia had also started his political innings as an MP of the Jana Sangh, the earlier avatar of the BJP, in 1971 but joined the Congress later. Several Congress leaders including Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot accused Jyotiraditya Scindia of betraying the trust of the people and placing “personal ambition” over ideology. MP govt hangs in balance: With Scindia’s loyalist MLAs following suit, the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh appeared headed for a collapse and will be reduced to minority if the resignation letters of the 22 legislators are accepted by Assembly Speaker N P Prajapati. The Congress, whose tally before the rebellion is 114, has a wafer-thin majority in the Assembly whose current effective strength is 228. It also has the support of four Independents, two BSP and one SP MLA but some of them are now likely to switch sides to the BJP.

BJP sources asserted that the decision of the party’s top two leaders to hold long deliberations with Scindia underlined the importance they attach to a politician considered close to Rahul Gandhi. in bulk, a shopkeeper informed Nagaland Post. In Dimapur as well, a wholesale dealer told Nagaland Post that there has been a sudden surge in demand for face masks and hand sanitizers. “Due to shortage of supply from the main dealers, we are unable to meet the market demand,” he added. It may be pointed out that Union Health minister Harsh Vardhan sought strict action against those charging inflated prices for face masks. Regretting that Nagas did not take things seriously, he cautioned that if they were not able to keep up with the fast changing world where technology was touching every aspect of human lives, they would be left far behind. Hence, he urged the engineering students to be dedicated and passionate in their studies and use their innovative ideas to create something new. The minister observed that the polytechnic had been at the forefront in providing education, and
remarked that “one of our major weaknesses was that we try to acquire knowledge only from the books prescribed in the syllabus”. “Think of the unthinkable and become an Einstein or Newton. Our minds are limitless. We need people who are passionate, dreamers and aspiring,” he stated. He advised the students to make use of the resources provided at the institute, including the smart board. Along said: “We want to live within our four walls and want everyone and everything to come to us, but afraid and lazy to go out and explore. Unless we change our thinking, we cannot change.” He thanked the Central government for turning the Look East policy to Act East policy by encompassing the Northeast, including Nagaland. He assured of looking into the matter of converting
the polytechnic into a fullfledged engineering college. He announced that two or three more polytechnics would be coming up soon. Pointing out Nagaland had become a land of NGOs, he observed that for seeking any solution, the easiest way for most Nagas was to come together and form a group. “This is because we had stopped believing in our strength to build our State and nation. We have instead become a pressure group because that is the best option Nagas have found out to keep themselves relevant and to gain popularity. We have at least 2,000 unions in Nagaland now,” he observed. All India Council for Technical Education chairman Anil D Sahasrabudhe was present on the occasion along with Technical Education director Er. Arjun Singh, who also spoke at the occasion.
NEW DELHI, MAR 10 (IANS): Political parties have collected Rs 11,234 crore from unknown sources in the last 15 years, according to election watchdog, Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR). An analysis of their Income Tax Returns (ITR) and donations statements filed with the Election Commission of India (ECI) showed that the sources remained largely unknown. At present, political parties are not required to reveal the names of individuals or organisations donating less than Rs 20,000, neither those who donate via electoral bonds. As a result, more than 67 pert cent of the funds cannot be traced as they come from ‘unknown’ sources. While the national political parties were brought under the RTI Act by a Central Information Commission
(CIC) ruling in June 2013, they have still not complied with the decision. For this analysis, seven national parties were considered -- BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress, Nationalist Congress Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, CPM and CPI. However, the BSP declared that it did not receive any funds from voluntary contributions (above or below Rs 20,000)/sale of coupons/electoral bonds or unknown sources of income. According to ADR, between FY 2004-05 and FY 201819, the national parties have collected Rs 11,234.12 crore from unknown sources. During FY 2018-19, BJP declared Rs 1,612.04 crore as income from unknown sources which was 64 per cent of the total income of national parties from unknown sources at Rs 2,512.98 crore.
This income of BJP forms more than 1.5 times over the aggregate of income from unknown sources declared by the other five parties at Rs 900.94 crore. The Congress declared Rs 728.88 crore as income from unknown sources which was 29 per cent of the total income of national parties from unknown sources. Out of Rs 2512.98 crore as income from unknown sources, the share of income from electoral bonds was Rs 1960.68 crore or 78 per cent. As per the analysis, the combined income of Congress and NCP from sale of coupons between FY 200405 and FY 2018-19 stood at Rs 3,902.63 crore. According to the donations report (containing details of donations above Rs 20,000) of FY 2018-19, Rs 71.44 lakh was given to the national parties in cash. K Y M C
