Germany eliminated from 2018 World Cup

KAZAN (RUSSIA) JUN 27 (AGENCIES): Everyone was waiting for Germany to score another late World Cup-saving goal. It never came. Instead, the Germans have become the fourth defending champions to be eliminated in the group stage following a 2-0 loss to South Korea on Wednesday. France in 2002, Italy in 2010 and Spain in 2014 were previous defending champions to get eliminated in the group stage. Germany allowed a pair of injury-time goals while knowing a 1-0 victory would have been enough to advance because of the result in the other group match. Germany ended up last in Group F while Sweden and Mexico advanced to the round of 16. South Korea was also eliminated despite the victory. It was the first time Germany has been knocked out in the first round since 1938. All four teams in the group had a chance to advance in games, but Sweden’s 3-0 lead over Mexico put Germany in prime position to move on as well -- if the Germans could score against the South Koreans. That was the problem, for Germany.

KOHIMA, JUN 27 (NPN): In yet another major seizure, at least 1,666 kg of fish injected with harmful formalin were recovered from different fish shops in the State Capital on Wednesday by a Food Safety team from the Health & Family Welfare department in the presence of Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) and district

administration officials, besides Angami Youth Organization (AYO) and Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) members. Initially, tests were performed on fish samples collected from five to six shops in and around TCP Gate and Phoolbari. And as the samples tested positive for formalin, huge quantities of fish were later recovered from other shops and dis-

posed off at KMC dumping site around 7.30 p.m. Food safety officer Kezhangulie Yimchungru informed Nagaland Post that samples of 12 species of fish tested positive, including local fish put up for sale by local women. However, he clarified that local shrimps being sold by local women tested negative. On being asked whether there was any directive to ban all kinds of fish from being brought to the State or Kohima, the food safety officer said so far no such directive had been received. According to reports, most fish traders tried to hide their fish stock, but the authorities compelled them to bring them out. It may be mentioned that the fish samples were tested at the only mobile testing unit which was stationed at TCP junction here. It may be recalled that on Monday, 5,280 kg of fish were destroyed in Kohima after it was found to contain high levels of formalin.
