DIMAPUR, JUN 19 (NPN): Amidst a raging debate over relieving of Officiating DGP, Rupin Sharma to the successor and the unprecedented open defiance against the order issued by the Office of the DGP Nagaland to its staff not to hold any kind of meeting or activity directed against the government, the state government appears to have belatedly woken up from its slumber. Nagaland Post contacted chief secretary Temjen Toy to ascertain if any order to appoint the next incumbent was issued. In response Toy disclosed that so far nothing has moved in that direction. “I am surprised by the manner in which so much hype and vehement opposition has been created in the media over an appointment that has not even been made,” said Toy.
He further said “The government has noted the manner in which this issue has been hyped and protest engineered. An informed decision will be taken at the highest level.” Other officers of the department asserted that reactions against posting of a regular DGP were illogical and premeditated since all these were done to subvert the constitutional authority of the government levels in Nagaland as well as union home ministry. It may also be recalled that after then DGP L.L. Doungel completed his deputation in November 2017, the state had requested Assam for the deputation of Lungriading Zeliang ADG Assam but it could not be met. By that time Rupin Sharma then DG (Prisons) was allowed to hold charge as Officiating DGP from November 24, 2017. Earlier, Y. Patton Deputy CM
in-charge of Home clarified that the temporary charge was “purely as a step gap arrangement” in view of the 2018 state assembly polls. During the period of obtaining clearance for ADG Chhattisgarh T.J. Longkumer IPS, much has been brought out through social media against removal of Rupin Sharma. It was pointed out that even Lukhei Sema IPS was officiating DGP from October 28, 1995 to February 11, 1996 and later appointed DGP on February 11, 1999 and retired on May 31,2001. In retrospect, the officers said any achievement by an officer cannot be used as leverage to hijack government’s prerogative on appointments and its authority over the department at large. They expressed concern about the damage inflicted to the department due to the unwanted situation over normal transfer and posting.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet on Tuesday evening. “Whatever has happened is good. People of Jammu and Kashmir will get some relief. They (BJP) ruined Kashmir and have now pulled out,” said senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal pointed out that Modi government had claimed that demonetisation in 2016 had broken the back of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir but that did not seem true. CPI (M) criticised the BJP’s for its timing, saying its decision to pull out of the government would push the state deeper into instability.

DIMAPUR, JUNE 19 (NPN): The ongoing verbal duel between the ruling dispensation and the opposition shows no sign of receding with NDPP now accusing NPF of resorting to lies, deceit and spread of false propaganda, while NPF central youth wing has accused chief minister Neiphiu Rio his “cohorts” of trying to divert the issue and shifting blames. In a hard-hitting rejoinder, NDPP’s media & communication committee said NPF was bereft of responsible leadership and continued to be led by a “liar” and “a president on bail”. And as long as it was led by a person who had lied to every citizen of the State and country vis-à-vis his false BA pass claim, it had no moral authority to speak on every issue, the rejoinder added. On the other hand, NPF youth wing in a press note said Nagas would not forget how Rio obtained fake BA honours certificate and submitted the same along with his nomination paper while contesting Lok Sabha election as an NPF candidate in (Full text on p-6) 2014.
