Detach all teachers attached with VIPs in 15 days: ANCSU DIMAPUR, JUN 11 (NPN): All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has served a 15day ultimatum demanding detachment of all teachers attached to VIPs. In a letter addressed to all legislators/concerned of the 13th NLA, ANCSU president Katho P Awomi and education secretary Kruto Tetseo maintained that the union was against any kind of attachment of teachers with VIPs. Despite several reminders and representation, ANCSU said some teachers were still attached with the legislators. It reminded that teachers were supposed to be teaching in their respective institutions for the upliftment and progress of students in particular and institution at large. ANCSU has therefore requested the concerned legislators to take the matter seriously and also reminded not to attach any teachers under any condition, adding this was directly affecting the institution and jeopardizing the welfare of the students’ community. Further, ANCSU said it will remain vigilant and will not allow the careers of the students to be hampered.

NSSATA members to go on hunger strike from today
DIMAPUR, JUN 11 (NPN): With the state government not conceding to some of the demands of the Nagaland Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers’ Association 2010 & 2013 (NSSATA), a section of the NSSATA members have decided to launch a hunger strike from June 12 (Tuesday). However, all other members have unanimously decided to continue the sit in protest till the government offers a positive response to the long pending demand, NSSATA agitating committee convenor Thejangulie Kirha and secretary, Arenla Tzudir said. Even as the peaceful protest entered its fourth day on Monday, NSSATA said there has been no positive response from the government. It is for this reason that the aggrieved teachers have made a decision to strengthen their voice by furthering the ongoing stir, NSSATA stated. NSSATA pointed out that not only the teachers or students, but over 2500 families have been affected.
On June 8, Nagaland chief secretary Temjen Toy had categorically stated that the government’s hands were tied as it cannot cede anything beyond what was agreed. He also warned that the state government might be compelled to respond with stern action as per the dictates of laws and existing laid down procedures. Toy said the agitating teachers ought to accept their responsibilities especially after the government had done whatever it could in trying to solve their grievances. Toy pointed out that since SSA is a flagship programme, funds were not pumped in regularly. He said the state government on numerous occasions and despite limited resources, had intervened when salary was delayed. He pointed out that SSA teachers were recruited under SSA flagship programme and as per the SSA guidelines, with terms and condition that their services would be terminated once the programme ended.
KSU threatens to shutdown schools
Ko n ya k S t u d e n t s ’ Union (KSU) has threatened to shut down all schools in Mon district and said it would rather make the students take part in the agitation, if the government failed to resolve the ongoing issue of the SSA teachers. For this, KSU said that the concerned department and government shall be held responsible. In a press note, KSU president Bumang Phaiba and education secretary Abo Wangshu said most of the schools under SSA have been affected, as teachers were in Kohima to take part in the protest. Such issues have resulted in poor performance of schools, it added. With schools scheduled to conduct the mid-term exams and syllabus yet to be covered, KSU said some schools were not functioning due to absence of teachers. The careers of students are at stake as teachers are compelled to agitate due to the unending issue, KSU stated.
NEW DELHI, JUN 11 (AGENCIES): Three months after the Bharatiya Janata Party’s political coup in Meghalaya, when the party leadership, with just two representatives elected to the new assembly, cobbled together a government led by the National People’s Party (NPP), chief minister Conrad Sangma is discovering the cost of BJP’s support. According to a Business Standard report, on Monday Meghalaya DGP Swaraj Bir Singh, also a Sahitya Akademi Award winner, submitted his resignation to Sangma over the proposed appointment of BJP-linked former police officer, Kulbir Krishan as “security advisor” to the state government. Sangma’s government had given Singh an extension as DGP in April this year. Kulbir is regarded in police circles as “controversial”. In the early 2000s, then Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief, Shyamal Datta, posted him out of the bureau over allegations relating to his personal life. Later, abortive attempts to appoint Krishan IB chief floundered after resistance from the organisation. In 2013, when Krishan was DGP Meghalaya, the Election Commission ordered him moved out before elections. In contrast, Singh is well respected in the service and is regarded as having performed creditably as DGP since his appointment in December 2016. Sangma has not accepted his resignation and urged him to continue. When contacted by Business Standard, Singh declined to comment on the issue.
