With Rahul adamant, Cong in a big fix Shinde, Kharge frontrunners for party chief; CEC to meet this week Spl. Correspondent/Agencies
Staying firm on his decision, Rahul Gandhi told reporters, “I have made my decision clear. You all know it.” Sources also say that Rahul Gandhi remains firm on his decision and may join his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra with his mother Sonia Gandhi by end of the week in the United States where Robert Vadra is undergoing surgery. Rahul Gandhi has continued to look after the party’s day-to-day affairs and holding meetings. Senior leaders have conveyed to him that it was time that he took a call to convene a meeting in the interest of the party and help end the limbo that is damaging the morale of party workers. It is a matter of debate as to what will happen inside the Congress Working Committee, but senior leaders have confirmed that the only way to end the crisis in the party is to convene the CWC. Only the CWC can pass a resolution for a particular person, as the name can only be ratified by the AICC. As per the rule, senior most general secretary of AICC can convene a CWC in the absence of a president.
NEW DELHI, JUL 1 (NPN): With Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi adamant not to take back his resignation as INC president, the party is caught in a difficult situation further revealed it lacks leaders besides the Gandhis. The AICC can neither choose a working president nor accept Rahul’s resignation. The situation is only compounding the already crisis situation for the grand old party as many leaders in various states are even contemplating on jumping the sinking Congress ship. If the party is to choose instead of elect the next AICC president, then there are already to veteran Gandhi loyalists likely to succeed Rahul. Two names that have been doing the rounds as probable president include - former union minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and former leader of the Con-

gress Parliamentary Party (CPP) in the LokSabha, MallikarjunKharge. However, Congress Working Committee (CWC) willmeet either on Wednesday or Thursday to discuss the future of the party. On the other hand young office holders have planned to go on an indefinite strike in AICC to persuade Rahul Gandhi to remain as Congress president. Other Congress leaders whose names were doing the rounds as probable choice for the post of Congress president.wereGhulamNabi Azad, Ashok Gehlot, AK Antony, JanardhanDwivedi and MukulWasnik. Shinde has also served in various positions in his forty-year career which includes the position of a governor and union minister.
MallikarjunKharge’s too is a very senior leader who started his career in 1972 but his stint at the Centre started in 2014 when he was appointed as the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party in LokSabha. As a last-ditch move, all five Congress chief ministers failed to persuade Rahul to continue as the president of the party. Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot had tweeted that only Rahul Gandhi can lead the party in the current scenario. “We firmly believe that only he [Rahul Gandhi] can lead the party in the current scenario, his commitment towards well being of our country and countrymen is un-compromised and unmatched,” Ashok Gehlot wrote on Twitter.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Kenye said though his party supports the centre’s initiative for ending the protracted conflict in Nagaland; the “grey area” of being kept in the dark about the contents of the accord are now prevailing over. The delay in disclosing the details of the peace accord he said has “created space for unwarranted social and political entities” who do not augur well for peace in Nagaland and the North Eastern region. “This suspense is not auguring well for the state as well as the region. Lotha Hoho objects to proposed railway project DIMAPUR, JUL 1 (NPN): Lotha Hoho (LH) has objected to the proposed railway line from Dimapur to Tizit through Wokha district, stating that LH and frontal organisations, on behalf of the Lotha public, resolved not to allow any such parallel railway through its jurisdiction until and unless the public were convinced that such an initiative was for benefit of the people. In a press note, LH chairman Mhondamo Ovung and general secretary S Abenthung Ngullie said the Lotha public failed to understand as to why there should be a parallel railway line from Dimapur to Tizit as the proposed line was understood to run in parallel to the existing NF Railway line with only a few kilometres apart from each other, and with a dead end at Tizit. LH said the laying of a parallel line just about 6km apart from each other was found unjustified since there was hardly any industrial, mineral, agricultural etc products or metropolitan cities at either ends to necessitate such a railway facility. “Unfortunately there is neither of these requirements and above all reasons, the terminal point, at Tizit, is to be a dead end,” LH said, adding that it failed to understand the reason why there should be “such an unnecessary initiative; unless with an ulterior motives.” LH said it had also written to DC Wokha on the issue cautioning that no such parallel line would not be allowed through Lotha territory. It said any such parallel railway line through Lotha land without the consent of LH would attract stern opposition from Lotha tribe and the concerned authority would be held responsible.
showed resolve to solve the pending issue in the shortest possible time, but this delay will have a cascading effect on the peace in the region.” While the NPF supports the BJP’s bid to create a National Register of Citizens; it is vehemently opposed to the Citizenship Amendment Bill. “Why do we need more people in the country; are we short of people and working hands? Will policy decisions be taken by outsiders?” Kenye said, underlining that his party will fight the CAB. The other issue that the NPF wants the Modi government to take up is ensuring the safety of minorities and protecting their rights. “That [safety of minorities] is one area where they have failed miserably. The one that national leaders have to accept is that diversity lies at the core of this nation’s foundation, and despite partition [in 1947] on religious lines, the architects of the constitution chose India to be a secular nation,” Kenye said.
