they will hold their own internal consultations on Thursday to decide on the Centre’s new proposal. During the internal meeting, which lasted for over four hours, the farmers also asserted that they “will not go back to their homes until their demand to repeal the three contentious farm laws is accepted by the government”. “The SKM pays homage to the 143 farmers who have been martyred in this movement so far. These companions are separated from us while fighting this mass movement. Their sacrifice will not go in vain and we will not go back without the repealing of these farm laws,” the statement said.

Tractor rally: Farmers-police meet inconclusive

The second round of meeting between the police and farmer unions regarding the proposed January 26 tractor rally by them remained inconclusive on Thursday as the farmers stuck to their demand of taking out the rally on Delhi’s busy Outer Ring Road. Taking to reporters after the meeting, Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav said the police wanted the farmer leaders to take out their tractor rally outside the national capital. “We will do our parade peacefully inside Delhi. They wanted us to hold the tractor rally outside Delhi, which is not possible,” Yadav, who is actively participating in the ongoing agitation against the Centre’s new farm laws, said. Sources said police officers tried to convince the protesting farm unions to hold their tractor rally on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway instead of the Outer Ring Road, but in vain. village. And from morning till around 10 p.m., every pig was screened for any illness etc. Humtsoe claimed that the carcasses were then punctured, applied phenyl and disposed at a private land adhering to all safety guidelines. Referring to some people taking a photo of the carcasses and circulating it on social media, Humtsoe clarified that the carcasses were disposal buried in the presence of Chumukedima OC, DMC officials, consignee and other officials. Rest of the pigs would be quarantined for 10 days under veterinary department’s supervision and cleared for public consumption only after that, he added. Modi, in his video conference with CMs just before the launch of nationwide drive, said politicians should not jump the queue for vaccination, as first round was for frontline workers, government sources noted. “In the same vein, he said politicians would get their turn in the second phase when senior citizens will be vaccinated,” government official said. It is unclear whether the PM will take Covishield or Covaxin. Modi getting the jab could go a long way in addressing concerns of vaccine sceptics.

DIMAPUR, JAN 21 (NPN): Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio highlighted the need for more public recreational centres in Nagaland where people can spend time with family and friends to make people more civilised through changing their mindset. Speaking at the inauguration of Public Recreational Centre (PRC) at Green Park, State Horticulture Nursery (SHN) here on Thursday, Rio also stressed on the need to have a “healthy society” and suggested opening of more parks for the benefit of society. which has become “concrete jungle”, replete with congestion and pollution. He hoped the centre would help people in unwinding and rejuvenating themselves. Rio proposed that Green Park should not be confined for the department alone, but should also be opened to public for recreational activities, jogging and even for small meetings and get-togethers. He said opening of such recreational centres would make a difference to the Naga society. Rio informed the gathering about his decision to open one public park each at Dimapur and Chümoukedima. He also informed that three places in Kohima would be converted into public parks at- Old Zoo in

Ministers Hill , Nagaland University Campus at Meriema and Thizama Fishery Complex. In a bid to encourage local entrepreneurs to setup markets in their respective localities, Rio also stressed on the need to open more community-centric markets which would not only make it convenient for shoppers but also ease the congestions in the main town areas. For this, he asked deputy commissioners, administrative officials and village leaders to identify areas to setup local market places for essential commodities in their respective jurisdictions and also to have common facilities for weddings and meetings etc. (Cont’d on p-7)

ishield vaccine manufacturing unit, sources said. “I would like to reassure all governments & the public that there would be no loss of #COVISHIELD production due to multiple production buildings that I had kept in reserve to deal with such contingencies at @SerumInstIndia,” Poonawalla tweeted. Mayor Murlidhar Mohol said fire officials recovered the five bodies during the cooling operation. IMA announces relay hunger strike from Feb 1 Over 1 mn healthcare workers inoculated NEW DELHI, JAN 21 (PTI): The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Thursday announced a panIndia relay hunger strike of doctors starting February 1, in protest against a notification issued by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) that authorises post-graduate practitioners in specified streams of Ayurveda to perform general surgical procedures, stating that it will lead to “mixopathy”. The IMA is giving immediate directives to all members across the country to launch the “Save Healthcare India Movement”, the doctors’ body said in a statement. Under the campaign, the IMA will launch a massive awareness drive across the country as this is a clear threat to the safety of healthcare of people. Doctors will take turns

to sit on the hunger strike 24x7 from February 1 and the IMA will release posters and banners to raise awareness on the issue across the country, the statement said. “All IMA members shall update their Members of Parliament and MLAs regarding the true picture of the notification and the integration policy. The IMA will also give its representations to all state governments. Under this movement, all NGOs will be updated about the core issues,” it added. Besides, all IMA members will write and convey their feelings to the prime minister, the association said. Re presentatives of the IMA shall visit various places across the country to raise awareness among the public and apprise various associations from different countries of this “unscientific” notification, it said,

adding that the global voice of modern medicine shall echo the feelings of the Indian Medical Association and its members. The IMA has condemned the notification issued by the CCIM, a statutory body under the AYUSH Ministry, authorising post-graduate practitioners in specified streams of Ayurveda to be trained to perform surgical procedures such as excisions of benign tumours, amputation of gangrene, nasal and cataract operations. The doctors’ body further said the recent policy tilt, as evidenced in the medical pluralism advocated by the National Education Policy 2020 and the four committees of NITI AAYOG for officially integrating the systems of medicine in medical education, practice, public health and administration as well

as research ostensibly for a “One Nation, One System” policy, will “ring the death knell of all systems of medicine as a whole”. “The IMA respects all streams of healthcare. We object mixing of the streams as it is unsafe and unscientific...one doctor cannot give all systems of medicine to one patient. Mixing the Pathies and providing substandard healthcare is definitely wrong. “The IMA demands withdrawal of the CCIM order and dissolution of the NITI AAYOG committees for integration. The IMA appeals to the government to consider the sensitivity of the medical fraternity and take appropriate steps. The IMA will be constrained to intensify the agitation until the steps towards implementing mixopathy are abandoned,” it said.
