were deployed to save the valley, which included forest field staff, SAYO volunteers and SDRF, DEF and 4th NAP personnel. DFO said that they had also contacted National Remote Sensing Agency to get regular update on active fire locations to assist the team. Speaking to media persons after coming out from the valley, Kohima range forest officer Pezaneinuo Chielie said the volunteers and personnel from various government agencies on Thursday successfully completed a fire line cutting measuring 5 km in length and 2 metres wide in the priority area.
Considering the terrain of the range, she said that fire-line cutting was the only viable option to contain the spread of the fire to the valley. Chielie admitted that there was very little humans could do to douse the fire since there were heavy winds from the south and west fuelling the fire. She however claimed that the fire was largely under control. The forest department would be conducting a survey to fully assess the total damage caused by the fire, she added. As per the latest information, Rajkumar also said that the main valley was safe. Over 200 SAYO volunteers were camping in the base camp to monitor and to tackle the situation, he added. Manipur chief minister, Biren Singh took an aerial survey of the valley in Manipur side on Thursday. Singh said that the wildfire had already reached Mt. Asli, the highest peak in Manipur. “If the wind direction is going to the southern side, there is also a high possibility of entering the thickest forest called Kozürü in Manipur. Need help,” tweeted Singh.
Ravi urges govt to frame SOP, EWS
DIMAPUR, DEC 31 (NPN): Nagaland Governor, R.N. Ravi has urged the State government to immediately frame an appropriate Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) including satellite-based real time early warning system (EWS) to prevent recurrence of such disaster like Dzükou valley wildfire. Ravi, who was on a visit to Dzükou valley along with his family on Wednesday, accompanied by DC Kohima, SP Kohima, SAPO and SAYO members, had the first hand assessment of the intensity of the devastating fire in the valley and extent of destruction caused by it, PRO to Governor stated. Ravi maintained that the absence of a functional SOP to effectively respond to such a disaster had aggravated the situation. He thanked SAYO volunteers and policemen who, in an extremely adverse ground condition risked their lives to battled the raging fire to contain it from further spreading. All States to conduct COVID-19 vaccine dry run on January 2 NEW DELHI, DEC 31 (PTI): A dry run for COVID-19 vaccination will be conducted by all State and Union Territory administrations on January 2 to test the linkages between planning and implementation and to identify the challenges, the Centre said on Thursday. The activity is proposed to be conducted in all state capitals in at least 3 session sites. Some states will also include districts that are situated in difficult terrain/ have poor logistical support, while Maharashtra and Kerala are likely to schedule the dry run in major cities other than their capital, the Union Health Ministry said. “The objective of the dry run for COVID-19 vaccine introduction is to assess operational feasibility in the use of Co-WIN application in field environment, to test the linkages between planning and implementation and to identify the challenges and guide way forward prior to actual implementation. This is also expected to give confidence to programme managers at various levels,”
the ministry said. The central government has also asked all states and UTs to ensure effective preparedness for the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan on Thursday chaired a highlevel meeting to review the preparedness at session sites for COVID-19 vaccination with principal secretaries (Health) and other health administrators of all states and UTs through videoconferencing. The planning for the vaccine introduction will be as per the Operational Guidelines issued by the Health Ministry on December 20. Regarding the dry run to be held, for each of the three session sites, the Medical Officer In-charge will identify 25 test beneficiaries (healthcare workers). The states and UTs have been asked to ensure that the data of these beneficiaries is uploaded in Co-WIN. These beneficiaries will also be available at the session site for the dry run. The states and UTs shall prepare the facilities
and users to be created on Co-WIN application including uploading the data of Health Care Worker (HCW) beneficiaries, the ministry stated. The states and UTs have been asked to ensure physical verification of all proposed sites for adequacy of space, logistical arrangements, internet connectivity, electricity, safety, etc. and prepare at least three model session sites in each state (at state capital) for demonstration. They have been asked to ensure that the model sites have separate entry and exit in a ‘three-room set-up’ with adequate space outside for awareness generation activities, display all IEC material at these sites and ensure that all SOPs and protocols are being practised at the identified sites in an ideal environment along with vaccination teams to be identified and trained in all aspects. The dry run will also equip the state and UT administration in management of vaccine supply, storage and logistics including cold chain management, the ministry stated.
Opted for peace keeping in mind past, CBSE board exams from May Nagaland COVID tally 11927 COVID-19 STATUS AS ON december 31, 2020 present & future consequences: Niki 4 to June 10, 2021: Pokhriyal DIMAPUR, DEC 31 (NPN): Being mindful of the past, present and future consequences on Naga generations, NSCN/GPRN president ‘gen’ (retd) Niki Sumi said his organisation opted to heed to the call of Nagas to give peace a chance despite some reservations. In a statement, Niki explained that the decision to give peace a chance emanated from most of the Nagas appealing and yearning for peace, which had been absent spanning across decades and generations. “I, as a Naga, cannot unilaterally go against the wishes and aspirations of our people and, consequent to our decision to give peace a chance, I might have hurt or let down the sentiments of a few which was never my intention. Therefore, I do request all to introspect on the wishes and aspirations of the Naga people to give
peace a chance,” he stated. Mentioning that he cannot thank enough the Nagas from all spheres and ages for showing their overwhelming love and support to the common Naga cause, Sumi acknowledged that he had always derived fortitude and resilience through trials and tribulations with God’s mercy and Naga people’s support. He recalled the 16point Agreement of 1960, six rounds of talks in 1966 and Shillong Accord of 1975 and claimed that NSCN/GPRN split due to miscommunication and misunderstanding about the Indian government’s open door policy for talks. Sadly, he regretted that every agreement or political talks only paved the way for more bloodshed among Nagas, further weakening “us” and creating more division among Nagas.
CNTC lauds Niki
Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has expressed happiness at having learnt that NSCN/ GPRN led by Niki Sumi had come across the border in the interest of people to give peace an opportunity. In a statement, council president Lanu Imchen and vice-president Hukive K Yepthomi applauded NSCN (KN) for paying a heed to the call of the people and said they were optimistic that the longawaited political solution of the Indo-Naga Issue would be obtained In a short span of time with the coming of NSCN (KN). CNTC further urged Government of India and its leaders to be earnest in their efforts to find an honourable and acceptable solution to the long-vexed Naga political issue.
