Gandhinag a r / New Delhi,, Feb 21 (IAN S/PTI): US President Donald Trump will be cutting short his stay in Ahmedabad to accommodate his likely Agra visit and the dinner at Delhi. Sources said his visit to the Gandhi Ashram at Sabarmati is in all likelihood cancelled.
“We are yet to receive any confirmation about the Presidents’’ plans regarding the Gandhi Ashram visit, but 99 per cent, it is scrapped,” said a state government official. The Trumps were expected to spend about halfan-hour at the Ashram.

A new parking space was being created at the place. A platform was being built on the rear side of the Ashram so that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could show the entire Sabarmati riverfront to the visiting dignitaries from one place.
A special room was also being prepared at the Ashram, where the dignitaries would be spending some time. Sources said all that work has been halted for now.
So, now the mega event -- the 22 km roadshow from the airport to the Sabarmati Ashram -- has been reduced to 9 km. Now, the Trump couple accompanied by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be driving straight to the Stadium from the Ahmedabad airport.
The change in plans can also be attributed to the fact that there’’s also a dinner arranged in the evening in Delhi which the US dignitaries are expected to attend. (PTI) Tulips and multicolour hybrid dahlias besides floral boards will adorn various prominent spots in Lutyen’s Delhi to welcome US President Donald Trump’s and other dignitaries, an official said on Friday.
Various prominent spots, including roundabouts, will also be beautified with flowers, according to an official of the New Delhi Municipal Council. US President Donald Trump, accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump and a high-level delegation, will arrive in Ahmedabad around noon on February 24 for a little less than 36- hour-long trip.
Trump’s daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner, will also be part of the delegation. From Ahmedabad, Trump will travel to Agra before arriving at the national capital for the main leg of the visit.
“On all important occasions, we put up floral motifs at various vantage points in the NDMC area. We will install floral boards welcoming the dignitaries at prominent spots on the route the dignitaries will travel,” a senior NDMC official said.
“Besides seasonal plants that adorn various locations, we have arranged for over 15,000 pots of tulips and multi-colour hybrid dahlias, which will be placed at Hyderabad House, the venue for delegation-level talks between the US President and Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” the official added.
NDMC area is home prominent buildings, including the iconic Parliament building, Rashtrapati Bhawan and Diplomatic Enclave.
“Various prominent spots in the NDMC area, including roundabouts will also be beautified with flowers. While our roads are among the cleanest ones in the city, we have also directed the sanitation department for intensive cleaning of roads using machines,” the NDMC official said.
In Delhi, Trump and the First Lady will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 25. From there, they will go to Rajghat to pay homage at the ‘samadhi’ of Mahatma Gandhi. It will be followed by restricted and delegationlevel talks between Trump and Modi at Hyderabad House. New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI): Women protesters at Shaheen Bagh on Friday told the Supreme Courtappointed interlocutors that when several adjoining roads in the area are open, why have they been asked to move to another site.
Senior lawyers Sanjay Hegde and Sadhana Ramachandran, the apex court-appointed interlocutors, met the protesting women at a tent in the south Delhi neighbourhood to hold talks for the third consecutive day.
“When several adjoining roads are open, why are they insisting us to move from this road. This is not the only road connecting Delhi-Noida,” a woman protestor told the interlocutors. Hegde said, “Today is Shivaratri. It is your right to speak, speak up. Say everything you want to say. Let’s take a joint decision for all parties affected here”.
The interlocutors also called Delhi Police at the spot to discuss the matter with protestors.
On Monday, the Supreme Court observed that the blockade of the road at Shaheen Bagh was “troubling” and suggested the protesters go to another site where no public place would be blocked. It, however, upheld their right to protest. Shaheen Baghinterlocutors: 3rd round of talks

AMU teachers criticize Yogi’s statement students Alig arh (UP), Feb 21 (PTI): The AMU Teachers Association has taken a serious umbrage at Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s allegation that over 15,000 varsity students protesting against CAA on December 15 last year had wanted to burn the Aligarh city.
While speaking on the Motion of Thanks to the governor’s address in the Uttar Pradesh assembly on Wednesday, the chief minister had said, “I had alerted the Aligarh administration after the violence at Jamia Millia Islamia university.
There were 15,000 students of AMU, who took to streets, wanted to burn Aligarh city but their game plan was averted by an alert police, Adityanath had stated. The AMU teachers described the chief minister’s statement as “highly irresponsible” and “travesty of truth”.
In a letter to the President of India, the AMUTA secretary, Prof Najmul Islam, on Thursday demanded that the chief ministers statement should be expunged as he has tarnished the image of a leading institution of higher education without verifying facts.

New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday held extensive discussions with his Maldivian counterpart Sheikh Imran Abdulla during which they discussed about ways to further strengthen the ties between the two countries.
Abdulla is on a fourday visit to India since Thursday. “Met Mr. Sheikh Imran Abdulla, Home Minister of the Republic of Maldives. Held extensive discussions on ways to further deepen and strengthen ties between India and Maldives,” Shah tweeted after the meeting.
Both the ministers were believed to have discussed issues relating to bilateral security cooperation, an official said. India and Maldives share ethnic, linguistic, cultural, religious and commercial links steeped in antiquity. Except for a brief period between February 2012 and November 2018, relations between the two countries have been close, cordial and multi-dimensional.
India was among the first to recognise Maldives after its independence in 1965 and to establish diplomatic relations with the country.
Proximity of Maldives to the west coast of India (it is barely 70 nautical miles away from Minicoy and 300 nautical miles away from India’s West coast), and its situation at the hub of commercial sea-lanes running through the Indian Ocean and its potential to allow a third nation’s naval presence in the area imbues it with significant strategic importance to India. Politics in country facing ‘credibility crisis’: Rajnath
New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI): The politics in the country is facing a “crisis of credibility” due to the difference in words and deeds of the politicians, and this needs to be checked, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said here on Friday. Observing that the word ‘politics’ has lost its meaning, Singh called upon the people to accept the challenge of ending the credibility crisis in politics. “Politics is a system that takes the society on the path of righteousness. But, presently it has lost its meaning and essence and people hate it,” he said while addressing Shivratri Mahotsav function of Brahmkumaris at Red Fort lawns.
