Correspondent
KOHIMA, FEB 19 (NPN): Former Union Human Resource Development (HRD) minister Dr. Sanjay M. Ram Paswan, who is currently member of Legislative Council (MLC) and member of BJP manifesto team, claimed that the vexed Naga political issue would be settled after the Lok Sabha election. “Our special team of the party, which includes BJP national general secretary of North East, Ram Madav is studying the issue and the issue will be resolved after the election,” said Paswan. He said this during a press conference at Hotel Japfu here on Tuesday evening. Paswan mentioned though the Naga issue concerns India, foreigners were more interested in it and that it was not a simple matter. He remarked, “I’m sure the issue will be sorted out by the next government.” The former minister was in Kohima to interact with BJP leaders for the paryt’s election manifesto. On his party’s slogan of “election for solution”, Paswan said political solution to the decades-old problem was a top priority
NNC on withdrawal of support to Keyho DIMAPUR, FEB 19 (NPN): NNC through its joint secretary, Bendang Sangtam, has reacted to the NNC leaders’ rejection of withdrawal of support to NNC president ‘gen.’ (Retd) Thinoselie M Keyho by NNC and FGN. At a joint meeting on February 13, 2019, NNC and FGN while resolving to withdraw support to Keyho had noted that even as the government of India and the NNPGs have agreed to resolve the Naga political issue through negotiation, Keyho chose to oppose the talks even before the talks have reached any logical conclusion. In a press release, NNC joint secretary said Keyho was duly elected on May 11, 2016 at Yoruba in the NNC general session organized by FGN with the hope and understanding that the president would work in cooperation and close association with FGN for the Naga cause. However, joint secretary said that after seeing his non-co-operation to the FGN, most of the NNC/ FGN leaders, NNC central executive members and regional presidents who elected him have withdrawn their support to his leadership. for BJP and that it would be included in the manifesto. To queries on the promise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of solution in 18 months after NDA came to power, he replied that PM was serious and working 18 hours a day and thus could not be blamed for any such lapses. Mentioning that both Kashmir and Naga political issues were of great importance for BJP, he, however, added Naga issue would be settled on priority basis. To a query, if “election for solution” would be another slogan for BJP in the ensuing parliamentary polls, he replied in negative, adding the NDA government was serious and honest on this issue. On Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), he said
BJP would ensure that it did not disturb the social fabric of the North Eastern States. He also acknowledged the States of the region for standing firmly behind the NDA and remarked that BJP would see how best economic assistance could be delivered to these States. When asked on the denial of Union Home minister Rajnath Singh to meet the North East region’s chief ministers, he avoided the question. He instead claimed that for the first time Government of India had taken a bold step like CAB. However, after stiff opposition, he said the party was trying to settle the issue in a democratic manner. Paswan exuded confidence that no one would go against such a stand and the North Eastern
chief ministers would come to an agreement on this. He also informed the media that during a meeting at its headquarters on Monday, BJP decided to dedicate one out of the 10 pages for the North East. Paswan said he interacted with 12 groups on issues like farmers, youth and women empowerment, inclusive development, governance, economic entrepreneurship, tourism, infrastructure, education, national security, cultural heritage, labour, etc, to accommodate them in the party’s manifesto to make it a “people’s manifesto”. On resignation of senior party leaders, Paswan said there were dissidents in all parties. He exuded confidence to bag all Lok Sabha seats from the North East in coordination with NDA and NEDA partners, adding the region had great confidence on his party. BJP not to contest from Nagaland: Paswan announced that BJP would not field its candidate in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls and extend support to NDPP candidate. State BJP vice president Dr. Sukhato was also present at the press briefing.
ANCSU reminds state govt of its demands DIMAPUR, FEB 19 (NPN): All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has reiterated its demand for separate nodal cell to implement all kinds of scholarship schemes, settlement of Kohima Science College Jotsoma land encroachment issue and land issue in all the district colleges/institute. In a press note, ANCSU president Katho P Awomi and general secretary Vimeyiekho Vitso stated that the chief minister had last year consented to set up a separate nodal cell for scholarships and had also directed the district administration to submit a survey report on KSCJ land issue and land survey report of all the district colleges/ institute. The union, however, claimed that some departments not willing to give up scholarship schemes towards the common nodal
cell was “a clear sign of the department having intentions to mismanage/misappropriate those funds meant for the students.” Despite a period of six month, ANCSU said the district administrations failed to submit the survey reports. It said the district administrations also failed to take positive steps in setting up a nodal cell as directed by the chief minister. ANCSU has, therefore, appealed to the chief minister to “seriously look” into the matter and take necessary action to avoid “unwanted confrontations” from the aggrieved students. Meanwhile, the union has appreciated the chief minister for taking proactive measures towards disbursement of the Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) ST session 2017-18 second and final instalment.
ANCSU said it was however appalled by the “casual response” from the various department officials concerned towards releasing the Drawal Authority. It claimed that the state government has received the sanction order for the second and final instalment only on January 11, 2019. Subsequently, ANCSU said the directorate on January 16, 2019 wrote to the state government for drawal authority. The union claimed that the chief minister had directed the departments concerned to disburse the scholarship amounts to the students account before the end of January 2019. However, ANCSU said that the departments concerned, despite its continuous request and directive from the chief minister, “intentionally delayed the file process”.

KRN demands CNTC wants ILP panel speedy probe into report tabled in NLA Zakiesato murder

DIMAPUR, FEB 19 (NPN): Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has asked Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) to take up the report of Inner Line Permit (ILP) Committee in the ensuing 13th Assembly session scheduled from February 21 to 23. CNTC in a press release pointed out that the problem of illegal immigrants, its magnitude and implications, needed to be taken up with all seriousness, “irrespective of political affiliation or colour”, as it was related to the future of the upcoming Naga generations. Pointing out that the issue was most crucial and critical and had long been bothering the Nagas, CNTC demanded that it be taken up without delay as the State had already been swarmed by illegal immigrants from Bangladesh making their way through Assam. According to the group, the existing ILP system in the State had become almost dysfunctional with no proper data on entry and exit of outsiders in the districts. It said the demand for bringing Dimapur district under
the purview of BEFR was genuine as it was a matter of concern for all the Nagas. Expressing its appreciation to the ILP Committee for bringing out a comprehensive and detailed report and suggesting solutions to solve the issue of illegal immigrants, CNTC said the unabated influx had not only affected the local economy, but also posed a threat to the security and very existence of the Nagas and their future generations in the State. CNCT demanded that the motivating factors and reasons for the influx should be immediately addressed and looked into with longterm solutions. It feared that, with the ongoing rate of influx, the indigenous Naga population would be reduced to a minority in their own land within a short time. “Leaders are elected by the people to serve and provide security to their people. So it is their foremost responsibility to take up this serious issue without any delay. The onus now lies with the State government to deliver a lasting and permanent solution to this chronic problem,” it added.

Speaking about RPI-A, he claimed the Indian constitution, written by RPI founder Dr BR Ambedkar, was the fabric of the party. Stating that the democracy enjoyed by the Indians was the best in the world, Athawale said, “Indian constitution and democracy give messages of equality, social equality, economic equality and political equality and provide social, economic
and political justice to the people in India.” Athawale also assured to help the people of Nagaland through his ministry and pursue the Chiethu greenfield airport at Kohima at the Prime Minister’s Office level. Stressing on bringing projects, industries and companies to address the unemployment issue in Nagaland, the minister said he would also provide
assistance in creating job opportunities in the State. He lamented on the poor condition of roads in the State and hoped that the ongoing four-lane work Dimapur-Kohima would be completed soon. During his visit, Athawale said he had met governor PB Acharya, chief minister Neiphiu Rio and deputy chief minister Y Patton and discussed various issues pertaining to the State. Chaired by Haisui Zeliang, the programme was also attended RPI-A’s Northeast observer Vinod Nikaljee, while invocation prayer was offered by YBC Diphupar ‘B’ pastor Dr James. The welcome speech was delivered by the RPI-A Nagaland president. A special number was presented by Vinitoli Kappo, while a cultural dance was performed by Yimchunger Cultural Society, Chumukedima.
According to NSCN (I-M), Toishe and his team responded when the victims approached him for help. It claimed that the crime was masterminded by Wilson in the guise of a mediator between the dumber seller and the buyers. Hence, the claim of Wilson that he was a victim of extortion by Toishe was absurd, the outfit asserted. NSCN (I-M) clarified that Wilson was detained for interrogation and set free after he had paid Rs 3 lakh, with an “undertaking” that the remaining Rs 3 lakh would be paid within 15 days from the date of his release (21/08/2018) by submitting a land patta of a Pochury leader in the form of mortgage as an assurance for the remaining balance at the Unified Command office.
