DIMAPUR, FEB 16 (NPN): NPF president, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu has warned Naga people not to gamble with their faith, culture and identity, even as he accused NDPP of partnering with BJP to set its roots in Nagaland to persecute Nagas. He admitted that NPF did have an alliance with BJP for 14 years, but clarified that the regional party never encouraged the latter to set its foot “on our land”. KOHIMA, FEB 16 (NPN): NDPP chief ministerial candidate and former chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, on Friday said that the BJP sealed an alliance with NDPP because the Central BJP leaders lost confidence in the Zeliang ministry. Rio claimed BJP could not trust TR Zeliang because he lied, betrayed others, became corrupt and divided the people. Addressing the election campaign programme of party candidates at Kohima town, Chozuba, Tseminyu and Satakha on Friday, Rio expressed confidence that NDPP-BJP alliance would from the next government in Nagaland with an absolute majority. The current electoral battle is now between NPF versus its one time ally BJP and newly formed Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), the latter is
led by three-time chief minister and MP Neiphiu Rio. Dimapur district has 5 assembly constituencies-- 1-Dimapur-I (Gen); 2-Dimapur-II, 3 Dimapur-III, 1 Ghaspani-I and 2 Ghaspani-II. The district has a mixed population of 378811 (2011 census) and a total electorate of 200924 (2018) with 101645 male and 99279 female.. 1 Dimapur-I A/C has a total electorate of 22922 with 11798 male and 10896 female. In 2008, the seat was won by KL Chishi of Con-
gress polling 8700 votes and Atomi of NPF second with 4774 votes. In 2013 the seat was won by Tovihoto Aye of NPF polling 6952 votes over KL Chishi of Congress polling 5114 votes. In 2018, sitting MLA Tovihoto Aye is contesting as BJP candidate and will face Pukhavi Yepthomi of NPF and W. Kholie Kapfo of INC. 2 Dimapur-II A/C has a total electorate of 52,515 with 26,371 male and 25,808 female.

DIMAPUR, FEB 16 (NPN): NDPP’s chief ministerial candidate and Lok Sabha MP, Neiphiu Rio, who has been elected unopposed from 11-Northern Angami-II A/C, tendered his resignation as Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha. MOKOKCHUNG, Feb 16 (NPN): National People’s Party (NPP) candidate of 27 Koridang A/C, Chalukumba, on Friday, reportedly escaped an assassination attempt when unidentified miscreant(s) opened fire near New Market area, Mokokchung at around 6 p.m. The incident occured when the candidate was returning after attending the combined mass prayer programme for Ao candi-
dates held at Impur. DGP Nagaland, Rupin Sharma stated that a person tried to cause a commotion and opened fire. However, the security personnel attached with Chalukumba, const. Imkong of 2nd NAP Bn, thwarted the assassin himself firing a few shots in the process. Mkg DC warns village councils DIMAPUR, FEB 16 (NPN): Mokokchung deputy commissioner (DC), Sachin Jaiswal has issued strict orders to all the village councils, organizations and groups under Mokokchung district to desist from restricting free movement of citizens or any contesting candidate in their respective villages by issuing diktats. In an order issued on Friday, the DC said, in view of the upcoming Assembly election, such restrictions would be against Article 21 of the Constitution of India and against the pronouncements of Kohima Bench of Gauhati High Court in WP (C) No. 20 (K) of 2018. DIMAPUR, FEB 16 (NPN): Janata Dal (United) has served an ultimatum to the Wokha Village Council (WVC) against the latter’s resolution to support a certain candidate and bar any other from contesting the elections from their constituency. A press release from JD(U) secretary general and spokesperson, K. C Tyagi, and signed by Santosh Dubey, said that the WVC had adopted this resolution (resolution no. 17) on March 25, 2017.
