Don’t mix politics & religion: Rijiju
Correspondent
MON, FEB 14 (NPN): Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday made a fervent appeal to the people to not mix politics with religion, as politics was for the fulfilment of human physical wants and needs such as developmental activities, while religion was for the inner peace of one’s soul and mind. He was speaking at a function organized to kick start the BJPNDPP alliance election campaign here at Mon Town council hall In his speech, Rijiju alleged that the Congress realizing that they are losing ground and finding no faults to accuse the BJP with, had begun to defame the BJP as ‘Anti-Christians’. He also said that, under his chairmanship, a chapter on the North Eastern states is in the process of being added in the CBSE syllabus. Addressing the gathering, Rio said that despite being in the power at the Centre, the BJP agreeing to a 20-40 seat sharing model displayed the party’s maturity and the respect for the people of Nagaland, which was done keeping in mind the political problem of the Nagas. This, the Nagas should never forget, said (Cont’d on p-7) Rio.

DIMAPUR, FEB 14 (NPN): Working Committee (WC) of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) Wednesday termed as “unwise” the purported linking of NNPGs’ November 17, 2017 agreement with Government of India and August 3, 2015 Framework Agreement. Though both were for the same people, WC of NNPGs through its media cell stated that the November 17, 2017 agreement was “as clear as the blue sky”, but
the Framework Agreement was “shrouded in mystery and apprehension”. This is the difference between the two, WC added. WC maintained that the signing of the “Agreed Position or a Preamble of the Negotiations” between the government of India and the NNPGs on November 17, 2017 was unprecedented. Meanwhile, seeking to clear the air on the election issue, the WC of the NNPGs affirmed that they would, at all times, stand
by the people’s verdict of ‘solution not election’. WC pointed out that demand for deferment of elections was first resolved in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on December 15, 2017. Thereafter, it said all tribal Hohos in Nagaland agreed unanimously to seek solution and not election. “A very strong message had been sent to India and outside world that there is a real political problem in Nagaland,” WC stated. to BJP for alliance. “It is up to them (BJP) to decide whether or not to have an alliance,” he said. Interacting with media persons on the sidelines of the NPF Kohima division kick off rally programme, Zeliang stated that BJP has still not withdrawn from the NPF alliance as two of its ministers and one advisor continue to be under his ministry. Zeliang said it was on the request of the BJP that the NPF revoked its decision of severing ties with the BJP. He said unless the BJP walks away NPF will keep its door open. Zeliang said the only issue with the BJP was on seat sharing. The BJP wanted 15 seats but it was not practical for NPF, he added. When asked about joining hands with NDPP, Zeliang ruled out such an alliance and said he was happy that Rio was in a dif-

KOHIMA, FEB 14 (NPN): Nagaland chief minister, T.R. Zeliang on Wednesday said that the National People’s Party (NPP) had officially entered into a pre-poll alliance with NPF and that the JD (U) will be signing the agreement Wednesday evening. Zeliang revealed this during the NPF Kohima division election campaign kick-off rally. Zeliang maintained that the NPF party had to join the electoral process as it was a constitutional and legal requirement and that the party did not want a repeat the 1998 episode or let the state go through President’s Rule. ferent party, as the party was free without him. Earlier, addressing the NPF Kohima division election campaign kick-off rally, Zeliang said NPF has given a voice to the Nagas for the last 54 years, all for a solution to the Naga political issue before the elections which was the overarching desire of people of Nagaland. Expressing confidence that his party would sweep the 2018 polls, Zeliang said the party will stand by its priority for a solution first, and will pave the way for any new dispensation that would be required once a final settlement is reached. NPF president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu said 2018 Assembly election will be a selection between the destruction or preservation of the Naga people and their identity and a time of testing one’s faith to God.
