COVID vaccine likely in few weeks: PM NEW DELHI, DEC 4 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that experts believe that the wait for a COVID-19 vaccine will not be long and it may be ready in a few weeks, saying vaccination drive in India will begin as soon as scientists give the nod. In his remarks here at an all-party meeting held virtually, Modi said healthcare workers involved in treating COVID-19 patients, frontline workers, who include police personnel and municipal staff, and old people suffering from serious conditions would be inoculated on priority. Noting that there have been questions about the price of COVID-19 vaccine, Modi said it is natural
to have such queries and asserted that public health will be accorded top priority in the matter and states will be fully involved. In his concluding address at the meeting, Modi sought to address most burning aspects of the issue, ranging from India’s vaccine readiness to its pricing, and reiterated that the country has done better than even some developed countries and those with better health infrastructure in tackling the pandemic. This is the second allparty meeting called by the government to discuss COVID-19 situation since the outbreak of the pandemic. Modi said nearly eight vaccine candidates are at different stages of trial with
their manufacturing assured in India and added that three from India are also at different stages of trial. Speaking about his interaction with Indian scientists involved in developing the vaccine and his visit to Pune, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad facilities, Modi said they are very confident of success. Their confidence level is very strong, he said, adding that various vaccines from different countries may be being spoken about but the world is keeping a watch on having a vaccine which is cheap and also safest. That is why, he said, it is natural that the world is looking at India, a global centre for mass manufacturing of different vaccines at a very affordable cost.

ENSF temporarily suspends agitation DIMAPUR, DEC 4 (NPN): Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has announced temporary suspension of its indefinite democratic protest due to emergency presidential meeting of six federating units scheduled to be held at ENSF headquarters, Tuensang. ENSF president Sepili L Sangtam and asst. general secretary Khomo P directed– Confederation of Chang Students’ Union, Khaimniungan Students’ Union, Konyak Students’ Union, Phom Students’ Conference, United Sangtam Students’ Conference and Yimchunger Akheru Arih-Ako– to reach Tuensang by Saturday, including all advisers and former leaders of ENSF. It, however, warned that the proposed agitation would resume anytime as and when decided. ENSF also regretted that in spite of its agitation having entered fifth day, the government was giving a cold shoulder to its demands, which only showed how little concern it had for Eastern Nagas, deprived of their rights. Meanwhile, the third phase of agitation passed off peacefully with volunteers of having locked district administration offices in all five districts besides restricting movement of government vehicles.

NBCC, ABAM oppose Sunday shopping DIMAPUR, DEC 4 (NPN): Two major church organisations-- Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) and Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM)- have reiterated their stand against Sunday shopping as it went contrary to the Biblical teaching. NBCC general secretary Rev. Dr. Z. Keyho pointed out that encouraging people to do business on Sunday (the day of worship) was against Christian principles and that Christmas was not about shopping and entertainment but about worship and being thankful to God for what He has done for us through the birth of His Son. He said people have six days to do business but to urge shops and business establishments to stay open on Sunday “ do not go well with the Christian spirit of celebrating Christmas.”
No business on Sunday, reiterates ABAM
The apex church body of Ao Baptist Christians, Ao Baptist Church Association (ABAM) has reiterated its call for keeping all shops and business establishments of the State closed on Sunday. ABAM president Dr I Lolen Imchen and executive secretary Rev Dr Mar Atsongchanger in a press release stated that though it was not clearly written as a law, Sunday is considered as holiday by most people of the world. ABAM said it has been observed and considered as the day of rest by both Christians and non-Christians. ABAM stressed that taking one day rest in a week was accepted as a human culture and that through the teachings of Christian religion , Sunday became more important and necessary that gave new meaning for its observance. It said among the many activities conducted in present world were contrary to true observance of Sunday where opening of shops and markets on Sunday have made Christians go for shopping on the day. ABAM regretted that though the church and different organisations attempted to impress on observance of Sunday in accordance with the teachings of Bible, it could not bring the desired change since people were self-centred, selfish and think only of self-gain. ABAM asserted that Sunday observance was important not only for the church and believers but for all citizens of Nagaland because 100% (Full text on p-6) of them are Christians. (Cont’d on p-8)
