Industry (MCCI) president N Ünko SN said they had been minutely observing the situation in close coordination with the respective district authorities. The signatories said that efforts have been made to resolve the issue, but the problem was yet to be resolved. They said that the Assam-based organizations imposing the economic blockade failed to comprehend the reality of the situation.

The business community of seven districts said state of Assam faces afflicting border disputes with all of its neighbouring states. Stating that the interstate border disputes were political in nature, the signatories said Assam-Nagaland case was exacerbated by historical wrongs, which can never be resolved by economic blockades imposed by rogue elements. They said that economic blockades would, in fact,

DIMAPUR, DEC 2 (NPN): Since solution to the protracted Indo-Naga political issue is not confined to the present state of Nagaland, and while Naga integration will be pursued through democratic political process, WC, NNPGs said the issue of integration cannot stop Government of India (GoI) from announcing a solution. However, consultation with neighbouring states remains equally important, the committee stated in a statement. According to WC, NNPGs, Centre’s position was clear and unchanged that negotiations have been completed, all mutually agreed matters taken to a higher table and it is only a matter of timing as to when government of India deemed it appropriate to announce to Naga people. The committee emphasised that this was not the time for Nagas to be apprehensive or nervous, nor to fall prey to desperate in-

terpretations of facts on the ground. Calling for living in reality and not in illusion, the committee said this was the hour for Naga people to be cautious, prayerful and be aware of restless and desperate elements. The committee asserted that it retained “what is practical and that which entrenches our history and political right” and sought utmost solidarity and prayer support from Naga people. Meanwhile, Centre’s interlocutor to Naga peace talks and governor RN Ravi held a meeting with WC, NNPGs convener N Kitovi Zhimomi, co-conveners Zhopra Vero, Isak Sumi, Z Hozheto Chophy, Kiumukam, Toshi Walling, P Tikhak and Raitu Chawang, co-ordinator Alezo Venuh and secretary Ghukiho T Zhimo at police guest house at Chumukedima here on Wednesday.

only strain the age-old ties between the people of the two neighbouring states and make it impossible to make room for any meaningful discourse to resolve the contentious border issue. Further, they said that border dispute between Assam and Nagaland is sub judice with the matter pending verdict at the Supreme Court. They also said that forceful obstruction of National Highways and restricting movement of essential commodities were not only illegal, but also violations of human rights. The signatories said that the government of Assam and its authorities were very well aware of those glaring facts and were duty bound to uphold rule of law. They admitted that seven districts of Nagaland were “almost entirely dependent” on the markets of upper Assam, particularly Jorhat, for their trade and commerce. However, the ongoing economic blockade was causing much inconvenience to the affected Nagaland districts, which they said

was rather damning for the economy and the business community of upper Assam. If the economic blockade was not lifted soon, the business bodies of seven districts said the business community including traders and farmers in upper Assam would confront “those reprobates” imposing the illegitimate and meaningless blockade at Mariani. The seven bodies have, therefore, appealed to the peaceful and right thinking citizens of Assam, the government of Assam, the authorities at Jorhat and the business community of upper Assam to intervene and persuade those responsible for “this pathetic drama” to lift the economic blockade. They termed as “unfortunate” that a few individuals with vested interests have taken to ransom the people of the two neighbouring states. “Let good sense prevail and ensure that local assembly constituency political interests do not sever the cordial ties between the two peoples enjoyed since time immemorial,” the signatories remarked.

IMA to withdraw non-essential, non-COVID services on Dec 11 NEW DELHI, DEC 2 (PTI): Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Tuesday gave a call to all doctors practicing modern medicine to withdraw non-essential and non-COVID services on December 11 in protest against a Central Council of Indian Medicine notification which authorises post-graduate practitioners in specified streams of Ayurveda to be trained to perform general surgical procedures. Emergency services will function along with ICUs and CCUs but no elective surgical case will be posted, the doctors’’ body said. Stating that the notification by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) to allows the legal practice of surgeries by Ayurveda practitioners and the formation of four committees by NITI Aayog for the integration of all systems of medicine will only lead to “mixopathy”, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) demanded an immediate withdrawal of both. “Launching the freedom struggle of modern medicine from the forces

of mixopathy, IMA has directed public demonstration activities and withdrawal of non-essential and non-COVID services on December 11, 2020, from 6 AM to 6 PM,” it said in a statement. “The recent policy tilt as evidenced in the medical pluralism advocated by the National Education Policy 2020 and the four committees of NITI Aayog for officially integrating the systems of medicine in medical education, practice, public health and administration as well as research ostensibly for a one nation one system policy will ring the death knell of modern medicine system as a whole,” IMA national president Dr Rajan Sharma said. “The notification of the amendment to the CCIM Act on postgraduate Ayurveda surgery and the entitlement to study and practice independently have to be seen as another step in advancing and legitimising mixopathy,” he said. IMA has also given a call for a public demonstration on December 8. Adhering to COVID-19 protocols,

the demonstrations will be held in small groups of 20 participants between 12 noon to 2 PM. All the participants will wear white aprons and sport a stethoscope, along with showcasing placards with slogans against mixopathy, the statement said. “The IMA demands withdrawal of the CCIM order and dissolution of the NITI AAYOG committees for integration. IMA appeals to the government to consider the sensitivity of the medical fraternity and take appropriate steps. “IMA will be constrained to intensify the agitation until the steps towards implementing mixopathy are abandoned. IMA has appealed to all the sister professional speciality organisations, the organisations of medical college teachers, government doctors, resident doctors associations apart from medical students and hospitals associations to support its cause to retain the separate identity and existence of modern medicine,” IMA secretary general Dr RV Asokan said.

Convene special Par session to Phase-II indefinite agitation repeal farm laws: Farmers to govt successful on day two: ENSF

NEW DELHI, DEC 2 (PTI): Protesting farmers on Wednesday demanded the central government call a special session of Parliament to repeal new farm laws and threatened to block other roads of the national capital if their demands are not met. Addressing a press conference, Krantikari Kisan Union president Darshan Pal accused the Centre of dividing farmers organisations by projecting the ongoing protests as Punjab-centric. Re presentatives of farmers organisations from other parts of the country will also be involved under Kisan Samyukt Morcha to decide the future course of action against the new farm laws, he said. Pal said that representatives of farmer organisations will give their point-wise (Cont’d on p-8) objections to the Union min-

isters at a meeting scheduled to take place on Thursday. “The Centre should call a special session of Parliament to repeal new three farm laws. We will continue our agitation till these farm laws are repealed,” Pal told reporters. Another farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chadoni said that if the Centre does not withdraw the laws, more steps will be taken in the coming days to press their demands. The number of protesters swelled at Delhi border points on Wednesday. Police stepped up security after thousands blocked key gateways into the national capital. Before the press conference, leaders of around 32 farmer organisations held a meeting which was also attended by Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait at the Singhu border. The talks between the

Centre and agitating farmer unions on Tuesday failed to end the standoff, and the two sides will now meet again on December 3. The farmer unions rejected the government’s offer to set up a committee to look into issues raised by them and said they will intensify their stir until their demands are met. “After our meeting, Rakesh Tikait ji was called by the government for a meeting on Tuesday. He is in with us... It is not Punjabcentric agitation, but it belongs to all farmers of the country... We have the support of farmers from Kerala, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and other states against the new farm laws,” Pal said. Farmers from the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana have been camping at five border points of Delhi for a week now.

DIMAPUR, DEC 2 (NPN): Eastern Naga Students Federation (ENSF) on Wednesday informed that second phase of the “proposed democratic indefinite agitation” on day two passed off peacefully and successfully. In a press release, ENSF president Sepili L Sangtam said that six federating units locked down government offices and restricted movement of government registered vehicles at their respective headquarters. On day two, ENSF said two vehicles were seized by the federating units in two different jurisdictions. Meanwhile, the federation has directed all the six federating units that the phase-ii of day three indefinite democratic agitation would remain the same. ENSF has expressed gratitude to the six federat-

ing units for their continued support and cooperation for the cause.

Cong lauds Ravi for honouring Imkongliba Naga Hoho flays Gov’s DIMAPUR, DEC 2 (NPN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president K Therie extended his heartfelt gratitude on behalf of all Congressmen and women to governor RN Ravi for honouring Naga People’s Convention (NPC) chairman Dr Imkongliba Ao by presenting a bust to the people of Nagaland. As one of the early educated persons who grew with the Naga political movement, Imkongliba gave his life for the people, Therie stated in a press release, adding “we owe them for all that we are today”. Appreciating the wisdom of 16-points, he said words were insufficient to express gratitude to Jawaharlal Nehru too for providing Article 371A. He recalled that NPC was organised after Indian forces advanced to defeat FGN that was raised after 1954 to resist aggression. In

1956-57, many villages were burnt down, people tortured and killed, while many lived in the jungles for years, living off forest vegetation and wildlife. In this backdrop, Therie said NPC was organised to represent the voice of people, adding that in the beginning, NNC/FGN also joined in the discussions but later backed out. Admitting that Nagaland has not been able to develop like other States although it was the 16th State and completed 58 years of Statehood, Therie remarked “we are fighting against ego. “People who cannot sacrifice time, health and wealth are talking more than those holding rifles. People who fear crackers are braving nuclear power. People who cannot live without grants and Finance Commission awards are talking of selfdependency. One is free to express but should also be

realistic and not mislead. We are supposed to be God’s children,” the release stated. Clarifying that Congress has no objection if someone can improve the State and that was how the party had offered talks with no conditions, Therie however cautioned that “talks with no condition” was not a means to live but to find solution. Delay in solution has destroyed the opportunities of development and job creation in the State, he pointed out. He said, “For people like me who cannot fight by giving time, health and wealth, must contribute wisdom in building the State to provide education, generate jobs and develop a vibrant economy.” He said he believed that the vision of Imkongliba and the founding fathers of Nagaland were to raise their children with abundance of opportunities.

DIMAPUR, DEC 2 (NPN): Naga Hoho (NH) has expressed shock at Government of India’s (GoI) interlocutor and governor RN Ravi’s statement on the eve of 58th Statehood Day glorifying the “controversial Naga People’s Convention (NPC) and creation of controversial Statehood.” Hoho president HK Zhimomi and general secretary K Elu Ndang in a press communiqué declared that they cannot support such “abusive statement” from the interlocutor and condemn it outright. NH said they had the notion that Ravi was unlike other interlocutors in the past and had great hope that during his tenure something could be worked out as he had understood the Naga political problem and its history of more than 70 years. “We never expected such antagonistic statement from a brilliant, intelligent and self-respecting interlocutor who is supposed to be a harbinger of peace,” they added. NH said Ravi’s entire utterances were meant to create division among the Nagas in line with regional and artificial territory, adding it left it to the conscience of tribe hohos, student and women associations and civil society organisations (CSOs), particularly from Nagaland, to reflect at this crucial moment and ponder upon with all seriousness the issue it was raising and come out with an open mind whether his “antipathic statement” was (Cont’d on p-8) acceptable to the Nagas.

DIMAPUR, DEC 2 (NPN): Concerned AYUSH Doctors Association Nagaland (CADAN) has urged the state health and family welfare (H&FW) department to uphold the November 2, 2020 Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench judgement that directed requisition of 21 AYUSH medical officer post to the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC). CADN through its media cell that concerned AYUSH doctors had approached the High Court for filling 21 post of AYUSH medical officers through NPSC. They said the High Court did not interfere with the present recruitment process since the appointment were for a period of only one year, but categorically

directed requisition 21 AYUSH medical officer post to NPSC within 6 months from Number 2, 2020 so NPSC could start taking steps for regular recruitment and thereafter make appointment immediately on the expiry of one year period from the issuance of appointment orders pursuant to the present recruitment process. CADN said a copy of the judgement and letter had also been sent and received by chief secretary, commissioner & secretary H&FW and principal director H&FW. Concerned AYUSH doctors expressed hope that the department would uphold the court judgement and take necessary actions based on the judgement passed at the earliest. K Y M C
