A delegation of opposition parties including Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Pawar and Left leaders on Wednesday met President Ram Nath Kovind seeking repeal of the three farm laws against which thousands of farmers have been protesting on vari-

ous borders of the national capital. The five-member delegation of opposition leaders included CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI general secretary D Raja and DMK leader TKS Elangovan, besides Gandhi and Pawar. “We met the President and informed him of our view regarding the three farm laws. We have asked for their repeal. We informed the President that it is critical that they are taken back,” Gandhi told reporters after meeting the President. He said the way the farm laws were passed in Parliament, “we feel it was an insult to farmers and that is why they are protesting in the cold weather against them”. NCP leader Pawar said various political parties have requested President that these farm laws should be repealed as they were not discussed with either stakeholders or in the Select Committee of Parliament. Yechury said, “We told President that the three farm laws were passed undemocratically in Parliament and have sought the repeal of these laws.” The opposition delegation was limited to five because of the COVID19 situation.

NESO, comprising of eight apex student bodies of the North East, will be displaying black flags and black banners at important locations across the region to observe December 11 as ‘Black Day’. December 11 is the day when the Parliament had passed the highly contentious CAA. Volunteers gathered at Aosenden village on Wednesday.

Bendangwati also said that there was a public announcement made across the border on Tuesday night urging the public of neighbouring Assam to gather on Wednesday to proceed towards Nagaland. This prompted the TRNYF to mobilize the manpower and move towards Aosenden village, he

added. However, there was no report of any untoward incidents even as Mokokchung district administration confirmed that the situation was brought under control. TRNYF said that they had also conveyed to the Assam police to vacate their post for peaceful coexistence of the people of the two states. While reminding that the people of Assam and Nagaland had been sharing peaceful neighbourly relations since time immemorial, TRNYF cautioned the Assam Police, stationed near the village, that they will be held responsible for any untoward incidents in the future. KOHIMA, DEC 9 (NPN): Even as it prepares to stage protest on December 11 against Centre’s decision to allow practice of modern surgical procedures by Ayurveda doctors, the Nagaland In Service Doctors’ Association (NIDA) has said that it was not against Ayurveda health care delivery system, but against the mixing of two separate entities. Speaking to Nagaland Post at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) here Wednesday, NIDA president Dr. E Phyantsuthung said mixing of two different systems of medicine will lead to fall in the standard of health care in the country. He cautioned that the move could have adverse impact on common man who was already facing a lot of problems in accessing quality health care. In support of Indian Medical Associa-

tion (IMA)’s protest call, Dr.Phyantsuthung said NIDA would suspend all non-COVID related activities on December 11 from 6am to 6pm and would also shut all OPDs except emergency OPDs and surgical cases. He added that COVID related activities would continue right from sample testing to treating COVID admitted patients. Dr. Phyantsuthung said NIDA had no issues with government trying to push Indian system of medicine in large way, but maintained that it should not cross one’s own boundaries. He said that the proposed protest was in support of IMA and said it will follow the directives of IMA for next course of action. IDANSB to join protest: Indian Dental Association Nagaland State Branch (IDANSB) has appealed to all the dental professionals both in government service and private to show solidar-

ity and join the protest by withdrawing all non essential non-COVID services on December 11, from 6 a.m.- 6 p.m. IDANSB president Dr. Kaketo Yepthomi and honorary secretary Dr. Vichovol Temi said that the proposed protest was against the centre’s decision to allow Ayurveda practitioners to perform various surgical procedures involving the eye, ear, nose, throat and dental procedures like extractions, filling and root canal treatment. IDANSB said the government must understand and consider the sensitivity of the modern medicine and dental profession and take appropriate steps. Integration of all systems of medicine, IDANSB said would only lead to “mixopathy”, confusion and complications. It said that IDA plans to continue and intensify agitation until the steps towards implementing the mixopathy was abandoned.

DIMAPUR, DEC 9 (NPN): Phek District Nagaland Contractors & Supplier’s Union (PDNCSU) has condemned the obstruction of two-lane works under Phek district by some individuals, which compelled the road construction company to temporarily suspend the works. In a press release, PDNCSU president Kuzhosheyi Soho Alex and general secretary Razou Lohe said that Shivalaya Construction Company has temporarily suspended two-lane works under Phek district especially from Sedzu River to 50 Kms stretch due to “frequent pestering” by some individuals from certain villages demanding machineries for engaging in their personal woks. “It is learnt that some individuals had even deliberately released water from the water canals to the partly completed retaining walls and the works have to be suspended which is very unfortunate,” PDNCSU stated. Stating that the companies/ contractors were facing such difficulties, PDNCSU said it would “not hesitate to expose” those

people obstructing developmental works in the district. It said that such frequent interruptions had apparently led to disturbances in carrying out the smooth transition of their assigned developmental activities. PDNCSU has urged the VCC/public leaders of those villages to rein in their fellow members from carrying out such illegal activities, which could tantamount to obstructing developmental activities. It said that such illegal activities were liable to be booked and detained as per law. Further, the union reminded all responsible that “we cannot afford to let this opportunity slip away again due to our petty selfishness.” PDNCSU has also urged the district administration to take note of such occurrences and take action against those individuals obstructing developmental activities. It also demanded that adequate security be provided to the contractors so developmental works were carried out without any hindrances and completed within the stipulated time.

Ayemi asserted that the aim and priority of the state government was to bring social and economic development all over the state by carrying out various developmental works such as power systems in the state. He said the objective of the government was also to reach out to those who have

remained socially, economically and educationally backwards for several decades. He expressed the view that since electricity was connected directly or indirectly with all other activities, the socio-economic conditions of the people would also improve considerably with the upgradation of sub-station at Nagarjan. He also lauded the power department for its tremendous effort in enabling the government to fulfil the vision of providing uninterrupted power supply all over Nagaland. He was confident that the department would continue to perform their duties with more added vigour and work towards bringing 24/7 power supply. Further, the advisor expressed hope that the department would improve the overall maintenance of power system in the state and display exemplary discipline

and earn the admiration and support of the people. Also, speaking at the programme, principal secretary (power) Er KD Vizo said that the domestic consumption of power constituted about 85 percent of the total consumption, but the trend over the ten years has shown an increase of 7-10% in the normal annually. By 2021, Vizo said the power demand of 200 MW was expected from the industrial initiatives in the State. He, therefore, said that by 2021 the state power demand would touch 450MW.
