PM lays first brick for Ram temple
‘Fight for temple to freedom struggle; Ram belongs to all’
AYODHYA, AUG 5 (PTI): In a highly-anticipated event watched by millions on television, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday laid the foundation here of a Ram temple, the culmination of a campaign that fuelled the rise of the BJP and marked the fulfilment of one of its core poll promises. Amid the chanting of shlokas, Modi consecrated the very first bricks for the temple at the spot where many devout Hindus believe Lord Ram was born. The wait of centuries has ended, he said after performing the groundbreaking ceremony, made possible by a Supreme Court verdict last year that allowed the construction of the temple at the site where the Babri mosque was demolished by kar sevaks in 1992. The day also coincided with the first anniversary of the abrogation of provisions of Article 370, scrapping the special status for Jammu and Kashmir.

The prime minister drew a parallel between the foundation stone laying ceremony of Ram temple and Independence Day saying that “Ram Janmabhoomi has got freedom today”. “Ram Janmabhoomi has got freedom today. Like 15 August is Independence Day for the country, today holds a similar significance for crores of those who devoted their lives for cause of Ram temple,” said Modi. “We have to join stones for the construction of the Ram temple with mutual love, brotherhood,” he said. Modi started and ended his speech with chants of “Siyavar Ramchandra Ki Jai” and “Jai Siya Ram”. Lord Ram’s goddess wife
Sita is also known as Siya. “We have to bring development to everyone with everyone’s trust and help. It should be kept in mind that progress has taken place when humanity believed in Ram but destruction has happened when we strayed from his path,” he added. He told the gathering that a grand temple will now be built for “Ram Lalla”, the infant Ram, who had been living in a temporary tent for years. “Many people made sacrifices for the Ram temple. I pay my respects to all of them,” he said. Some Ram Janmabhoomi movement leaders, including former deputy prime minister L K Advani, were not at the venue where

DIMAPUR, AUG 5 (NPN): Affirming the December 12, 2007 ENPO declaration of “peace zone” under its jurisdiction, the Konyak Union (KU) Branch Tobu and Tobu Area Students’ Union (TASU) have condemned the killing of Mulong Chang, region secretary of Khango-led NSCN (K), allegedly by cadre of the same group in Tuensang on August 4, 2020. In a press release, KU(B) Tobu president SA Ngamlao and TASU president Sangti Konyak appealed to the Naga political groups to “intensify and respect the effort of organization in maintaining peace in the jurisdiction.” At a time when the communities across the state were in panic due to COVID-19 pandemic, the two organisations said that “such act of anti-peace movement by any individual/political groups” would only worsen the situation. KU Branch Tobu and TASU have demanded the law enforcement agency to immediately bring the perpetrators to book under relevant sections of the law. issues have been freely put to vote. MIP said Nagalim represented by NSCN was admitted to UNPO on January 23, 1993 and since then NSCN has been persistently involved in UNPO activities. Meanwhile, NSCN (I-M) has appreciated the UNPO for its consistent support extended to the Naga people. Affirming to continue to extend “unflinching support” to the leadership of UNPO, the NSCN (I-M) said that the Naga people would strive to adhere to the principle of UNPO to resolve its political issues through peaceful and nonviolent means. D I M A P U R , AU G 5 (NPN): The war of words between NDPP and NPF is showing no sign of ceasing. After the opposition party claimed that the process for setting up Nagaland State Selection Board (NSSB) was set into motion when it had led the DAN III government with TR Zeliang as chief minister, the ruling party ridiculed the claim and termed it absurd. A statement by NDPP alleged that the NPF-led DAN III government had only paid lip service and did nothing in this regard for the welfare of the qualified and deserving youth of the State. It added that the setting up of NSSB by the PDA government was a fulfilment of long-cherished dreams and aspirations of the people, especially the youth. The ruling party further denied allegation that
its leaders had orchestrated chaos and instability in the past and instead accused NPF of forgetting how to play the role of a constructive and responsible opposition. NDPP also ridiculed NPF’s claims of being the main opposition party and oldest regional party as the latter failed to even put up its own candidate in the Lok Sabha election and contradicted all its principles and regional ideology by partnering and supporting a candidate from the Congress, which does not have even a single MLA in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA). Accusing NPF of deriving sadistic pleasure by pointing out that there was no opposition during its reign, the ruling party alleged that the situation was arrived at by engineering defections to ensure the party’s “unholy loot” of the State’s coffers.
