D I M A P U R , Aug 2 5 (NPN): Parliamentar y secretary IT&C and DAN chairman, Dr. Longriniken Friday described Gorkhas as honest and hard-working people who have contributed immensely to development of the state. He was speaking as the chief guest at the 73rd Gorkhas Matrys Day organized by Dimapur Gorkha Union (DGU) and Darogapathar unit in commemora-

tion of Major Durga Malla (INA) at Darogapathar village. While lauding the community for their contribution, the chief guest encouraged them to continue with their kind gesture towards the society. DIMAPUR: In commemoration of the 94th birth anniversary of vice president, NSCN/GPRN, Kyong region, late Khodao Yanthan, the Kyong region authority of the NSCN/ GPRN organised a function on August 25 in the office of the Central Administration Officer. According to region secretary, Kyong Region,

Thereafter, a special prayer was also offered for the collective leadership and all the members of the NSCN/GPRN and the Naga peace accord. The function concluded with a mass prayer.

Lecture on wildlife conservation DIMAPUR: 5 Assam Rif les under the aegis of Headquarters IGAR (North) organised a lecture on “wildlife conservation: Amur falcon” for the students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Chare town on August 19. KVK, NU Zbto celebrates World honey bee day

DIMAPUR: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Nagaland University, Zunheboto celebrated “World honey bee day” on August 19 at Litta New village. SMS (Plant protection), Toshi Longkumer highlighted on the significance of the celebration. He stressed upon the importance and role of honey bees in agriculture and to conserve honey bee since without honey bees, the human race would extinct in few years. Head G.B. Litta New village, Kakuto also encouraged the villagers to actively participate in honey bee rearing. The programme concluded with distribution of bee boxes in the village. Altogether 51 farmers participated in the programme.

DIMAPUR: Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) has been conducting various trainings and demonstrations for farmers across the state. ATMA Dimapur and UNDP Nagaland organised a range/block level consultation meeting on Jhum Resources Management Committee (JRMC) and draft Nagaland land use policy on August 23 at Niuland Town. LONGLENG: One day training and demonstration programme was organized by ATMA Longleng at Yongam village, Tamlu block, Longleng on August 17. In the programme, resource person, ATM Nokchensaba Kichu and BTM Moasunep trained the participants about the management of some major pest of citrus found in Longleng district. During field demonstration, resource persons also imparted the farmers the importance of training and pruning and nutrient management in citrus orchard. Soya bean seeds were also distributed to

emphasizing on nursery bed preparation. He also mentioned optimize biological productivity and raise organic nursery. Resource person ATM, Kakiho also demonstrated and deliberated on the benefit of practicing vermin-composting. SATAKHA BLOCK: ATMA Zunheboto, Satakha block conducted one day training-cum -demonstration on “soil conversation” on August 12 at Sukhai village. DPD ATMA, Zhuheboto, Tokato highlighted on the functions of ATMA and its progress to famers while ATM- ATMA, Zunheboto, Satakha block, Vinoto Yepthomi gave a PowerPoint presentation on the system of proper management and method of healthy soil conversation. ATMA Zunheboto, Satakha block, ATM Aliho Shikhu also gave a presentation on cultivation and the important use of “millet and jobstears” as a value addition crops. BTM, Wellson Shitio gave a brief introduction to the 29 villagers about the functions of ATMA and the concept of the training topics. The resource persons also felt that the para-hydrologists are matured enough to stand on their own and even extend training supports to other field functionaries and to the communities in springshed management. The director of land resource Hoto Yeptho stressed on the importance and priority of springshed development in his closing remarks.

Additional director IPR late Dominic Yazokie laid to rest DIMAPUR: Additional director, Information & Public Relations late Dominic Yazokie, was laid to rest at Vidima village on August 25 after the requiem mass and funeral service held at Holy Spirit Church Vidima. Hundreds of well wishers including family members, friends and officials from Information and Public Relations department led by the director, attended the funeral service. According to DPRO Dimapur, parliamentary secretary Er. Vikho Yoshu, who spoke on behalf of the deceased native village Kigwema, described late Dominic as a person of wisdom who was always ready to help people and the society at large. He said that the vacuum created by the demise of his best friend and advisor would be difficult to replace. Director IPR, Limawati Ao, described late Dominic as an able and fair administrator and also a fatherly figure to the younger officers. “As a senior officer in the directorate, he was the solid rock in which the department stood in times of hardships and uncertainties” he added. On behalf of the officers and staffs

of the department Limawati expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that the departed soul rest in eternal peace. Others who spoke during the funeral included retired director HE, Norbert Noraho, DPRO Dimapur, Lolano Patton on behalf of IPR district officers, vice president ACU Kevituonyu Simon, catechist St. Michael church Kigwema, Vimetha Vincent (on behalf of family) and others. Condolence messages of Nagaland governor and chief minister and Bishop Nagaland was also read out during the funeral service. Late Dominic Yazokie passed away on August 24 at Bethesda Hospital after a brief illness. He joined the department of IPR in November 1985 as PRO Delhi and served the Government and the people with dedication and distinction in that position for nearly 18 years. After coming to the Directorate on promotion he served in various capacities including PRO to Governor of Nagaland, Nodal officer at CMs office etc. He left behind his loving wife, 5 children (3 sons and two daughters) and 6 grand children.
