Pres Kovind praises COVID warriors appreciates ‘super-human efforts’ in containing coronavirus pandemic NEW DELHI, AUG 14 (PTI): President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday appreciated the “super-human efforts” in containing the magnitude of the coronavirus pandemic in the country and said these are “worth emulating” by the wider world. In his address to the nation on the eve of the 74th Independence Day, the president complimented the COVID warriors and said the nation is indebted to doctors, nurses and other health workers who have been continuously on the forefront of the country’s fight against this virus. “All corona warriors deserve high praise,” Kovind said in his televised address. He said it is very reassuring to note that the central government, while anticipating the tremendous challenge, responded effectively and well in time. “For a countr y so vast and diverse with high population density, meeting this challenge requires super-human efforts,” the president said. DIMAPUR, AUG 14 (NPN): National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), directorate of Health & Family Welfare has informed that vector density (number of mosquito population) was increasing over the months in various localities of Dimapur. In a press note, joint director & SPO (NVBDCP) Dr. I. Talitemsula Jamir this was found during a routine entomological study by NVBDCP on Malaria, Dengue and Japanese Encephalitis (JE) vector density in various localities in Dimapur. Speeches from the heads of various political groups commemorating the day was also released to the media. Not asking for flag or constitution, we already have them: Muivah-NSCN (I-M) ato kilonser. Muivah in his ‘74th Naga Independence day’ speech asserted that Nagas were not asking for Naga national flag and constitution from the government of India, saying whether government of India recognizes it or not “we have our own flag and constitution.” In his speech, which was read out by kilo kilonser (Home Minister) of GPRN, David Mero at CHQ Hebron, Muivah asserted that flag and constitution were ingredients of “our recognised sovereign entity and symbols of Naga nationhood”, stressing that the

I-Day celebration in Nagaland to be low-key affair KOHIMA, AUG 14 (PTI): The 74th Independence Day celebration on Saturday will be a low-key affair in Nagaland without customary march-past and only a handful of dignitaries have been invited for the function in view of raging Covid-19 situation in the state, official sources said on Friday. In order to maintain minimum gathering, there would be no more than 100 attendees at the main function. The measures have been taken in consonance with the central government’s directives to avoid large congregation. The state government has notified that only very senior bureaucrats and a few heads of departments will attend the programme at the main venue, director I&PR department Limawati Ao said. The government has directed AHoDs to hoist the national flag in government offices and institutions at 6 a.m. keeping in mind COVID guidelines. While chief minister Neiphiu Rio will be present at the main celebration at the Secretariat Plaza, deputy CM Y Patton will unfurl the tricolour in Dimapur.

D I M A P U R , AU G 1 4 (NPN): With 154 fresh COVID-19 cases being reported from across the state, the tally as on August 14 stood at 3322 cases-- 2110 active, 1198 recovered, 8 deaths and 6 migrated. According to Health
minister, S. Pangnyu Phom 84 fresh cases were detected in Kohima, 58 in Dimapur, 10 in Zunheboto, 1 each in Mon and Wokha. As per the severity of symptoms, 2106 cases are asymptomatic 2 mild and 3 moderate.
According to Health department’s data (cases by domicile district), Dimapur district recorded 1616 cases, followed by Kohima- 797, Peren- 343, Mon- 288, Zunheboto- 93, Tuensang- 52, Phek- 32, Wokha- 28, Mokokchung18, Longleng- 5, Kiphire- 4 and others- 46.
India’s COVID-19 cases cross 24L NEW DELHI, AUG 14 (PTI): India’s COVID-19 caseload surpassed 24 lakh on Friday after 64,553 more people tested positive and the recoveries rose to over 17 lakh, the Health Ministry said. With 17,51,555 people defeating the disease, the recovery rate has surged to 71.17 per cent. The caseload increased to 24,61,190, while the death toll climbed to 48,040 with 1,007 people succumbing to the disease in 24 hours, the ministry data updated at 8 am showed. The fatality rate has declined to 1.95 per cent. There are more than 6.60 lakh active cases, which is 26.88 per cent of the total. India had crossed the 20 lakh mark on August 7.

D I M A P U R , AU G 1 4 (NPN): NPF Legislative Party (NPFLP) spokesperson Imkong L Imchen has clarified that the proposal by Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) speaker Sharingain Longkümer for holding Joint Legislators’ Forum (JLF) meeting was never turned down. Reacting to a statement by planning minister Neiba Kronu in this regard, Imchen remarked that the former’s interpretation of the matter was ambiguous, one-sided and not in sync with the reality. According to Imchen, the speaker had written a letter (AS/HS/124/2020) to leader of opposition TR Zeliang on July 23, 2020 proposing a JLF meeting “in the afternoon of July 30, 2020 after the scheduled business of the Assembly is finalised.” (Cont’d on p-6)

NVBDCP discouraged rearing pigs near human dwellings as JE virus gets multiplied and amplified in pigs, which could be transmitted to humans. Further, NVBDCP advised all to ensure sleeping under the mosquito net during day and night time especially pregnant women and children and to immediately consult a doctor in case of high fever.
DIMAPUR, AUG 14 (NPN): Dimapur police issued new traffic regulations for nonessential vehicular movement within Dimapur town and NH-29 till Chumukedima town with effect from August 17-31 and appealed to all citizens to extend cooperation. In an order, Commissioner of Police (CP) Dimapur, Rothihu Tetso, informed that the Odd-Even system for vehicles in Dimapur will continue but restriction would not be enforced on Sundays. It also stated that the category under essential services as notified earlier would be exempted. Further, government servants on bona fide duties and vehicles involved in providing essential services/involved in COVID-19 related duties would be exempted on production of relevant documents and valid ID proof. Two-wheeler would also be exempted from the new traffic regulations. All heavy vehicles, except those engaged in four-lane construction works with valid permit, would be restricted from plying within the town area and highway area from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
DIMAPUR, AUG 14 (NPN): Christian Institute of Health Sciences & Research (CIHSR) 4th Mile, Dimapur has announced the reopening of all its services starting August 17, 2020. CIHSR director Dr. Sedevi Angami in a public notice informed that all the areas, which were affected by the COVID-19 virus, have been sanitized and ready to be re-opened.
Dr. Sedevi said that all the staff, who were infected by COVID 19 and have recovered, would be allowed to work again at patient areas. Only non-infected or staff recovered would manage patient interface sections of the hospital, he said. Dr. Sedevi also informed that all precautionary measures were in place to prevent further transmission within the hospital.
NPGs observe ‘74th Naga Independence Day’ Nagas must keep their flag and constitution. He claimed that the interlocutor for peace talks, RN Ravi had on October 31, 2019 stated, “We respect and honour your flag and constitution. We do not say Government of India has rejected them, but let us finalise them at the earliest time”. He said NSCN (I-M) had reiterated its stand stating that it saw no honourable solution without a flag and constitution. Muivah also said that the Nagas would co-exist with India sharing sovereign powers as agreed in the Framework Agreement and defined in the competencies but would not merge with India. (Full speech on p-4) WC, NNPGs ready to sign agreement anytime: Kitovi-- In an important announcement, ato kilonser of GPRN/NSCN N Kitovi Zhimomi has declared that the Working Committee (WC) of Naga Nationalist Political Groups (NNPGs) was ready to sign the IndoNaga agreement any day and time.
In his message on the occasion of 74th Naga Independence Day, Zhimomi said after more than 50 rounds in three years, negotiations had concluded with unresolved matters to be pursued and settled through democratic political process. He claimed, “We have touched, negotiated, sorted out and documented all negotiated points for posterity.” Recalling that the Government of India (GoI) and WC, NNPGs, of which GPRN/NSCN is an integral part, had on November 17, 2017 signed the “Agreed Position” that reinforced the political and historical rights of the Nagas to selfdetermine their future in consonance with their distinct identity, the ato kilonser said all apex Naga tribal bodies, GBs, legislators and intellectual groups were on board and proved to be a constant source of strength. Mentioning that the status paper was with the apex Naga civil societies and would exist for a
thousand years, Zhimomi asserted that the WC, NNPGs had the courage to listen to the people and pursue practical approach to resolve the Indo-Naga issue.
