Lockdown set to be extended till Apr 30 Country to be categorized into colours depending on number of cases NEW DELHI, APR 11 (PTI): The nationwide lockdown to contain the deadly coronavirus looks set to be extended by two more weeks till April-end after a consensus emerged among states on Saturday for continuing the curbs. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked state governments to take steps to curb the lockdown violations and ensure adherence to social distancing, he also announced a shift in focus from ‘Jaan hai to jahaan hai’ (health is wealth) to ‘Jaan bhi, jahaan bhi’ (lives as well as livelihoods), which many saw as indications towards relaxations for certain economic activities, including for industrial and agriculture sector. The next 3-4 weeks would be critical to determine the impact of steps taken till now to curb the virus spread, Modi told the chief ministers. During their inter-
Govt offices to start functioning DIMAPUR, APR 11 (NPN): Nagaland civil secretariat and directorates in Kohima and Dimapur and all government offices in the districts would resume their functioning with skeletal staff starting April 13. In an office memo, chief secretary has directed concerned AHoD, HoD and heads of offices to work out detailed arrangements of the staff who would need to attend office on a roster system. Those not attending office on a particular day would have to be available on telephone and electronic means of communication at all times, it said. Further, adequate arrangements are to be made for ensuring adherence to all social/physical distancing and necessary health safety measures in the offices.

DIMAPUR, APR 11 (NPN): Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday called upon the people of the state to put up a united front to fight against the common enemy-- COVID19 pandemic. “As we and the rest of the world battle another day of uncertainty and anxiety because of the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic, we must put up a united front to fight this common enemy,” Rio said in his video message to the people. Officials privy to discussions said the Centre is likely to categorise the entire country into red, orange and green zones depending on the number of COVID-19 cases during the proposed extended period of lockdown and might allow limited services to function in safe zones and virtually restrict all activities in the high-risk areas. Schools and colleges may remain closed everywhere, but small scale industries and liquor shops may be allowed to open, officials added. Separately, sources said all central ministers have been asked to resume office from Monday and put together plans for post-lockdown period to kick-start the economy. All ministries have also been directed that joint secretary and above rank officers will resume work in respective departments.
While government officials said guidelines for phase-II lockdown would be announced in next few days, the Union Health Ministry said testing and treatment infrastructures were being augmented on a daily basis and asserted that number of confirmed cases could have reached 8.2 lakh by April 15 in the absence of a lockdown and other containment measures. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi also suggested specific measures for agriculture and allied sector including modification of APMC laws to facilitate sale of farm produce.
Over 17 lakh COVID cases worldwide
Over than 17 lakh people have tested positive for the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) globally, while more than 1 lakh people have died. The US reported more than 2,000 deaths in a single day on Friday, while France also reported over 1,000 deaths in a day. An estimated 3.4 lakh people are considered to have recovered from COVID-19 so far.

D im apur , A pr 1 1 (NPN): In the event of lifting or partial lifting of the 21-day national lockdown after April 14, most health experts have suggested that current measures ought to remain strictly in place in order to contain the spread of COVID-19. In an exclusive interview to NE8-- a newly launched online channel, and in collaboration with Eden Medical Centre Dimapur on April 10, Dr. Naresh Trehan, chairman and Managing Director of Medanta- The Medicity, suggested that the current 21-day nationwide lockdown continue for at least two more weeks since the threat from COVID-19 can remain for at six months. Dr. Trehan a world renowned cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgeon said there is need to have more tests nationwide through COVID testing kits so as to understand the magnitude of the virus in India. such as hydroxychloroquine, paracetamol , plasma therapy etc have yet to prove conclusively that each is efficacious. Dr. Trehan said the best treatment is prevention and so emphasised on strictly maintaining personal hygiene, wearing of masks, frequent hand washing, social distancing and keeping one’s mental and physical state through meditation and light exercise and diet ought to become a long engagement. On the general belief that N95 mask is the only safeguard against COVID19, Dr. Trehan explained that the mask (N95) was only for use by frontline workers especially doc-
tors working or treating COVID-19 infected persons. He said general public can use any three-tier mask even those made at home, to protect themselves and others. On Indian health system is prepared to combat COVID-19 if cases rise to very high levels, Dr. Trehan said so far the government has been proactive and effectively responsive. He said the government has also roped in retired medical doctors for COVID-19 duties. In addition, he said all health workers and even final year MBBS students have been informed to be ready to join the battle against COVID-19 when called. Dr. Trehan also expressed a keen desire to visit Nagaland to explore ways and means for helping those in need of cardio ailments. He disclosed that he had planned to come to Nagaland in April at the invite of Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio but due to the COVID-19 crisis it has been shelved.

DIMAPUR, APR 11 (NPN): Wester n Sumi Hoho on Saturday distributed food packets to around 3000 frontline workers-- police, district administration, medical, municipal, power department and others involved in combating the COVID-19 pandemic in Dimapur. WSH president, Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi lauded frontline workers of Dimapur district for working tirelessly day and night in the
fight against COVID-19. According to DIPR report, WSH president described Dimapur as “mini India” where people from of all states reside and observed that it was a difficult district for management especially with regard to law and order and social order. However, despite all those difficulties, he said the district administration, police and other frontline workers have been rendering selfless services. “Western
Sumi Hoho salutes you and assure that we will be behind you and give full cooperation in any eventuality,” WSH president said. The hoho served lunch to all the frontline workers as a gesture of appreciation. Describing Dimapur as the lifeline of all districts, the commissioner & secretary, Kikheto Sema, said that all essential commodities passed through Dimapur emphasised on the need for coordination, cooperation and confidence. The deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur, Anoop Kinchi, expressed appreciation to WSH and underlined the importance of such gesture for motivating the frontline workers. Commissioner of Police (CP) Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo, on behalf of the district administration, police and other departments, acknowledged WSH and other NGOs for their moral, physical and prayer support.

When contacted, President Kohima Baptist Pastor Fellowship and pastor Peraciezie Baptist Church Kohima Dr. Kevichalie Metha the church will adhere to the directive of the NBCC, to join the ‘Easter Sunrise Service’ online. On the church’s devotional service, Dr.Metha also said it will be held at 9.30 am in all the respective homes. He said the sermon for the devotional service will be delivered through video recording as per the order of service prepared

Mankup also said due to lockdown, the church service will be held in homes of all members through online live video streaming. Benry Lotha, informed that the Sunday sermon was pre-recorded and would be shared online with members for the devotional service. Lotha also said that sunrise service will be held
at home as per the directive of NBCC. Also, Associate pastor youth Khiamniungan Baptist Church Kohima M. Chuba Lam and associate pastor youth Chang Baptist Church Kohima K. Yemnaonen conveyed that both churches would hold online service through voice message. Chuba Lam said the church members were also given the liberty to share messages to the members through voice recordings. Yemnaonen said the sermon will be delivered through voice message by the executive secretary Chang Baptist Lashong Thangyen. Temjenmongba Sempo, Pastor Kohima Ao Baptist Church also said KABC will go online through its official YouTube channel for the Easter service. As for sunrise service he said the church will go according to the directive of the NBCC.
Governor extends Easter greetings DIMAPUR, APR 11 (NPN): On the eve of Easter, the governor of Nagaland, RN Ravi, has extended his “warm Easter greetings” and best wishes to the citizens of Nagaland. In his message, Ravi called upon all to remember that Easter, celebrated around the world in memory of the resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ, symbolised ‘hope’. “Hope for a new beginning following a sacrifice made out of pure love. Jesus demonstrates the pure love for all mankind with selfless sacrifice. His resurrection demonstrates victory of love over hate,” governor said. He said that this year’s Easter was being celebrated under the shadow of COVID 19 pandemic, which has compelled a country-wide lockdown. Governor, however, called upon all to celebrate this pious and joyous occasion at home with family and do things little different this year by making it a one of a kind celebration with just family. Ravi also urged to keep people, countrymen and humanity in prayers on the occasion. “We are in no doubt that the spirit of Easter shall prevail. The COVID19 shall be defeated,” he said wished a blessed Easter Sunday to all.
NSCN (I-M) warns against price rise
DIMAPUR, APR 11 (NPN): Alleging price rise of essential commodities in Dimapur district during the ongoing lockdown, NSCN (I-M)’s UT has cautioned all traders/wholesalers/retailers to strictly follow the prices fixed by the concerned authority. In a press release, UT secretary, John M Yim, cautioned that those “manipulation of prices” taking undue advantage of the lockdown would be dealt with sternly.
All 70 samples test negative
DIMAPUR, APR 11 (NPN): The state government on Saturday informed that all 70 COVID-19 suspected samples sent for testing (as on April 11, 5 p.m.) have reported negative. According to Health & Family Welfare department bulletin, a total of 705 persons have been screened on April 11, while 327 persons were under home quarantine and 22 at facility quarantine.

Iralu, Naga activist and political commentator. Iralu, who passed away on April 9 night after a prolonged ailment at Referral Hospital (CIHSR) Dimapur, was laid to rest at Medziphema on April 10. CM: Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio expressed pain and sadness over the passing away of Kaka D Iralu; a prominent author and voice of Naga political movement. In his condolence message, Rio said Kaka’s demise was a big loss to the Nagas. “Through his writings he gave countless voices which needed to be heard; stories needed to be told. My condolences to the bereaved family,” Rio tweeted. TR Zeliang: Opposition leader, T.R. Zeliang has mourn-
ed the demise of renowned Naga activist and political commentator, Kaka D. Iralu. Zeliang said late Iralu was a renowned author known for his books, ‘The Naga Saga’ and ‘The Blood and The Tears’ in which he gave historical account of the Indo-Naga war and the story of those who were never allowed to tell it. As a patriotic soul, an intellectual and a man, he said Kaka stood for the Naga cause till his last breath. Zeliang said Nagas have lost a significant figure whose desire for liberation of the Naga people was manifested through his exemplary life and the void created by his demise will be difficult to fill. His books and commentaries on the Naga political issue and other state of affairs will live on to tell the story of a man who contributed so much during his lifetime, he added. Zeliang, along with his
family, prayed that the Almighty God grant peace and solace to the bereaved family and for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace. NH: Naga Hoho has expressed profound sorrow over the demise of Kaka D. Iralu, a prolific writer, a real Naga patriot, and historian and above all a very humble person. NH general secretary K. Elu Ndang said Kaka was a man with deep knowledge of Naga political history who has authored some iconic books like– Nagaland and India: The Blood and Tears; and The Naga Saga that has spread over the globe. A bold, outspoken man with genuine convictions who rendered selfless service to the Naga nation till his last breath, NH said Kaka was true to his word and always believed in inalienable rights of the Nagas for sovereignty. FGN: Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) has expressed deep grief and shock over the untimely demise of its Alee Kilonser (foreign minister) Kaka D.
