DGP imbroglio: State BJP refutes NPF allegation
NEW DELHI, APR 11 (AGENCIES): State-run oil marketing companies have been asked not to increase retail petrol and diesel prices by absorbing a part of the losses due to the recent rise in global crude oil prices, news agency Bloomberg reported, citing sources with knowledge of the matter. Shares of oil marketing companies slumped following reports that the government is asking these firms to absorb price hikes. Both Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation plunged over 7 per cent, while Indian Oil dropped over 6 per cent. Global crude oil prices have been on an upward trend, rising over $70 a barrel, the highest level since 2014. India imports about 80 per cent of its annual crude oil requirement. Rising global crude prices have sent domestic petrol and diesel prices to multi-year highs. Petrol was retailing at Rs. 73.98 a litre in Delhi, according to Indian Oil website, while diesel was being sold at Rs. 64.96 per litre.

DIMAPUR, APR 11 (NPN): Nagaland BJP unit has hit back at the opposition NPF for accusing deputy chief minister (I/c Home department) and its legislative party leader Y Patton, as solely responsible for trying to replace director general of police (DGP) Rupin Sharma. In a hard-hitting statement issued by its media cell, BJP said it was amused at the way the opposition party’s allegation, which it termed as unwarranted and personal in nature. NPF had stated that the move to replace Sharma ostensibly over the latter’s refusal to allegedly make backdoor appointments in the police department as desired by Patton. The party said it never expected the matured regional party to come to this conclusion and pretend to not know the facts. The party claimed that Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu, during his short stint as chief minister, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra
Modi on April 1, 2017 supporting the May 7, 2016 letter written by his predecessor T.R. Zeliang favouring Lungriading Zeliang for the post of DGP. TR Zeliang wrote to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh again on October 31 last year urging him to depute an officer from other cadre for the post of DGP by citing shortage of IPS officers belonging to Nagaland cadre. And the interesting part was that at that point of time too Patton was the home minister, the statement added. Subsequently, state BJP stated that after the formation of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government, chief minister Neiphiu Rio wrote a letter on March 24 to the Union Home Minister requesting for an officer of sufficient seniority and recommended Lungriading Zeliang for deputation to Nagaland for the post of DGP. Similarly, on March 27, chief secretary Temjen Toy also wrote to Union home secretary on similar lines. It was only

DIMAPUR, APR 11 (NPN): Nagaland Law Students’ Federation (NLSF) has received support from Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) in its opposition to some recent decisions of the PDA government. In a statement issued on Wednesday, NVCO said it backed NLSF recent memorandum to chief secretary opposing the government’s proposal for creation of 13 ex-cadre posts to be associated with chief minister’s office (CMO), deduction of one day’s salary from all government employees towards the Chief Secretary Welfare Fund (CSWF) and seeking cancellation of appointment of Priyang Pandey as officer on special duty (OSD) of Nagaland House, New Delhi. NVCO recalled that it too had opposed the government’s decision to deduct a day’s salary of all employees as contribution towards CSWF as it was “unreasonable”. The organisation added that its president Kezhokhoto Savi had pointed out then that a government employee too was a consumer and entitled to all consumer rights guaranteed under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.

“We see evidence of development in Nagaland, like this palatial house built with public money.” K Y M C
on March 28 that Patton, while discharging his official responsibility as in charge of home, wrote a letter to Singh on the subject, the statement explained. BJP clarified that it was not for or against any individual or bureaucrat, but added that the manner in which its leader was singled out just to tarnish his good image was a matter of serious concern. The party said it was clear from the above facts that the matter was not of recent origin. So, to entirely blame one individual was totally biased, it added. BJP said the “desperate attempt” by NPF to politicise the issue by putting the entire blame on the BJP leader showed the regional party’s “withdrawal symptom” for being out of power. Patton on Monday termed it as “very unfortunate that the confidential correspondence” of the highest level was “leaked in the social media in an unauthorised manner “ and misinterpreted in some sections of the media.

Fair price shop owners seek reimbursements from govt
DIMAPUR, APR 11 (NPN): All Nagaland Fair Price Shop Association (ANFPSA) has appealed to chief minister Neiphiu Rio to immediately release transportation and handling charges to fair price shop owners of the State. In a press note, ANFPSA president Hotoshe Sumi and general secretary M Gonmei, said after implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013 and providing ration to priority households under Food & Civil Supply department in Nagaland, the fair price shop owners had stopped receiving their due share of transportation and handling charges despite giving their best in sincerely distributing essential commodities to ration card holders. ANFPSA asserted that the fair price shop owners had done their job with full commitment and dedication by adhering to the department directives and bearing all transportation and handling costs after assurance from the
State government that these would be reimbursed as and when the fund reached the department concerned. The association, however, expressed its deep disappointment at the silence of the government on the matter and its failure to reimburse the costs incurred by the owners till date for reasons best known to it despite several appeals and representations to the director. Claiming that it had appealed to the department several times, the association alleged that the latter had not demonstrated any positive will to reimburse the fair price shop owners despite the Centre having released funds to the State government in this regard. It charged the government of failing to deliver justice and acknowledge the contribution of fair price shop owners. Appealing to FCI to also intervene in helping resolve the matter, ANFPSA reiterated that fair price shops owners would continue to serve people of the State. K Y M C
