Revenge tourism to trigger  3rd Covid wave, warns ICMR has not yet accumulated to the levels as elsewhere in the country. Against the backdrop of increasing anticipation of the third wave in India, it is important to recognize the potential risks associated with such an escalation in travel,” it said. After considering mathematical models to ascertain the future course of the pandemic, ICMR warned that a sudden increase in population density due to incoming tourists or mass congregation because of either social, political or religious reasons can worsen the third-wave scenario. Making it necessary for tourist destination states to demand Covid negative tests or vaccination certificates, ICMR said vaccine status could also play an important role in eligibility to travel,

with some caveats. The recommendations prepared by Dr Balram Bhargava, director general, ICMR, and Dr Samiran Panda, head, epidemiology and communicable diseases, ICMR, were also published in the International Journal of Travel Medicine published by Oxford University Press. ICMR has recommended that people choose responsible travel instead of revenge travel. “Nonetheless, with the possibility of a severe third wave in India still looming, it remains critical to recognize and mitigate the risks involved. A shared sense of responsibility among visitors, residents and local authorities will go a long way towards protecting the welfare of the country as a whole,” the agency said.

CGBA against proposal to change GB nomenclature

NEW DELHI, OCT 6 (AGENCIES): Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has recommended tourism destinations such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and the North East to strictly enforce Covid pandemic protocols and seek vaccination certificates and Covid-19 negative tests from visitors before allowing entry. The apex biomedical research body warned that the pandemic’s third wave could see cases surge by as much as 47% because of increasing leisure travel during the festive season and could even occur two weeks earlier than the previously estimated November peak. ICMR noted the impact on smaller states was less intense during the pandemic’s second wave. Among the

Tourist destinations including NE asked to strictly enforce Covid protocols Although India doesn’t have national-level guidelines on domestic travel during, ICMR said it may be helpful for tourism-dependent states to receive guidance on how best they can mitigate travel-related risks. “These observations indicate increasing opportunities for transmission in areas where population-level immunity

district after initially saying no, and also released Vadra from three days of preventive detention. The day also saw an AAP delegation meet the grieving families in Lakhimpur and MoS Home Ajay Kumar Mishra calling on Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi for their first meeting since a murder case was registered against Mishra’s son for allegedly mowing down four farmers. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Cabinet expressed regret over the death of farmers in the violence at Lakhimpur Kheri, while the ruling allies here called for a statewide bandh on October 11 to protest against the incident in the Uttar Pradesh as they

sought to corner the BJP over the tragedy. Though no arrest has been made in the case so far, the FIR stated that Asish Mishra was driving the car and then after the car overturned, he got out from the car and opened fire and then went into hiding. Reports said that MoS Home, Ajay Mishra briefed Amit Shah that his son Ashish was not there in the car, a claim that he has been reiterating. The minister claimed that the car lost balance after it was attacked by stone pelters and as it flipped some protesters came under the car. He alleged that his driver was lynched and the car was set on fire. His son was not involved in this at all.

DIMAPUR, OCT 6 (NPN): Opposing the proposal to change the nomenclature of GBs, Chakhroma GB Association (CGBA) has said that appointment of GBs and its role and responsibilities had been practiced for the last 181 years in Naga villages much before introduction of Town Council/ Municipal Acts. DC’s office will not be shifted: PHE minister HOME DEPTT CLARIFIES; CSOs DEMAND WRITTEN ASSURANCE DIMAPUR, OCT 6 (NPN): Against the backdrop of opposition from Dimapur-based CSOs to the proposed shifting of the office of deputy commissioner Dimapur from its present location to the new complex at Chümoukedima, the state government has virtually ceded to the demand when it was decided to withdraw the proposal. This was made known on Twitter by PHED minister Jacob Zhimomi. The minister tweeted that he had “met the CSOs of Dimapur district & discussed about the issues in the district. I am thankful to them for understanding d govt. Assured to them that DC HQ will be at Dmp. So the matter is laid to rest.” Civil Society Organisations’ (CSOs) Core Committee Against Shifting of DC’s Office, also confirmed the conclusion of the meeting. In a press release the core committee’s office acknowledged the affirmative response of the minister in the larger interest of the people. However, the committee reiterated that until the State government responded and notified to the CSO Core Committee in writing, the protest against shifting of the DC office will continue indefinitely. According to the Core Committee, they held a meeting with the PHED minister at his residence on Wednesday on the issue of shifting of the DC office. The Core Committee members expressed discontentment at the alleged lackadaisical attitude of the present dispensation in addressing the rights and demands of the people of Dimapur.

They clarified that the demands made in the memorandum and ultimatum were not against any particular community or place, but only insisted that the DC office should not be shifted elsewhere in any manner. They also conveyed to the minister that any commitment or assurance made by or on behalf of the gover nment should be in the form of an official notification. They

also demanded rescinding of the earlier impugned notification (no. GAB-8/ DMP/63/2100(Pt)/249, dated 07.09.2021) issued by the principal secretary (home) for shifting Office of the ADC, election, disaster management and other branch offices. CSOs said that Jacob had informed them that the government had never intended to shift the DC office anywhere else from the

Home dept keeps on hold Sep 7 order In view of the concerns expressed by various organisations, the State government has kept on hold the home department’s notification of September 7 vis-à-vis shifting some branches/cells from DC’s office Dimapur (DC) to the new complex at Chümoukedima, DIPR stated. Clarifying on the issue of posting ADC at Chümoukedima and related issues, the home department in a statement recalled that the State cabinet had decided in its meeting on March 11, 2021 to shift the DC office from the current location to the new complex at Chü-

moukedima, with the department being tasked to work out the phased schedules. However, on account of the reser vations expressed by various quarters, the cabinet decided on August 10 to post an ADC, EAC and sub-treasury office at the new complex at Chümoukedima with a view to provide greater convenience to the public and with a view to decongest the DC office. Accordingly, an additional officer was posted as ADC to function from the new complex and EAC Seithekima was transferred and entrusted with the additional responsibility of assisting
