Final Year Project
Also called as Eyes Of Prosperity, this building tackle the issue of poor mindset that the locals and youth have towards the main economic activity on Pasir Penambang. This has become and issue as the is less and less people interested on joining in this long standing culture of fisherman which has become the identity of this area. Thus, changing how people view the fishing community by showing them the beauty, hard works and strength of the locals has become the main target of this building. From the construction process to the maintenance of this building, the locals themselves are involved to each phases, creating a sense of belonging and attachment towards this community center, worthy to be called home.

As Pasir Penambang fishing industry is dominated mainly by Chinese fisherman and corporation. The community center has become a place for important celebration such as the Chinese New Year. This strategy ensure that the building will be accepted within the existing community
The river banks have been facing the issue of soil erosion for the longest time, the number of marine animals living there has been reduced to a worrying amount. As their habitat is slowly destroyed, a mangrove nursery program is placed among all activities. The program uses fish waste such as their guts and bones into fertilizer to give nutrients to the newly sprouted mangrove plants. The circle of waste management secures the cleanliness of the river, avoiding it to be further polluted. The rehabilitation of the river habitat using mangroves will ensure the longevity of this building. As the river has become their main source of income for the longest time.
Electrical energy is generated to light up the mangrove pod during heavy downpour. This is possible as the rainwater collected in the water tanks flow through a dynamo that converts the kinetic energy into light energy. This feature of the community center is extremely useful for fisherman during monsoon season to find their way through the storm.
COMMUNITY HALL - A place where majority of the fisherman community gathers together to discuss important matters and celebrate important events annually. The theme of this hall interior design is to imitate underwater experience to further replicate the fisherman environment. The lightning fixture is designed as bottom part of a boat being submerged underwater. By assisting this community hall, it opens this community space for night activity, something that has yet been existed around this site

At the end of the narrative, it is predicted that this building will be consumed by the ocean water as the water level will continue on rising. Nevertheless, this building will continue to become a legend and landmark to the people living there. One day, scavengers and travelers will rediscover this building and its impact to the river of Pasir Penambang

What happens if we stop caring for each other ?
Through
the pandemic, it is clear for humanity that home has to fit more function than just the for resting & shelter. Home nowadays are lacking one thing: FLEXIBILITY.
This design project are trying to tackle housing that allow the users to customize and adapt to the any sudden environment changes, making it long lasting and conducive for the whole unit. Tackling target users from Seksyen 23 Shah Alam which has an industry heavy environment, FLASK 2050 is the perfect home unit for people wishing to have the opportunity to expand their home without the hassle of relocating.
Inspired by Kanchanjunga Apartments designed by Charles Correa, this design combines multiple socializing and community area using various staggering and layering technique. This ensure that every spaces is unique for the residence to keep on using and sharing as a community. With this effort, it is hopeful to say that even with the rapid advancement of the digital age, the community at FLASK 2050 will always have each others back.
Initial Project Conceptualization & Sketches
The materiality of this building is kept humble and low profile, utilizing most of the material original appearances such as concrete and timber veneer. This is important to connect the user to a more natural and warm environment, as with the advancement of technology in the future, being surrounded by screen and digital environment ha become the norm. This raw and honest take on the building materiality is a breath of fresh air for the residence to release some stress of living in this industrialized zone
“Human connections are deeply nurtured in the field of shared story.”
-Jean Houston-
GROUND FLOOR PLAN
Scale 1:250
The ground floor is reserved for various socializing and discussion space for visitors to collaborate with the residence without having to find other spaces outside the boundary of the residence.
1ST FLOOR PLAN
Scale 1:250
The design of the first floor plan provide residence from Block B to have their own designated space to have meetings and brainstorm new fresh ideas. Surrounded by colorful and intricate perforated panel design to further enhance the spatial quality of the space.
N SITE PLAN Scale 1:500 LOCATION PLAN
To increase the chances for the each units owner interact and collaborate with each other, 4 different level of interacting spaces are provided in a singular corridor. It increases the level of openness interacting with people from the unit nearest to the farthest.
Various activity that can be done such as tea time, study groups and gardening can be shared together within the neighborhood.
As this building focus is to maintain and preserve a healthy amount of human connection and sense of community among the residence from different background, the community hall will become a very important feature in this residence to provide a common place for them to gather around and socialize. Thus, by taking advantage of the IBS system, the design of each module allow the internal space of the hall to be customized and assorted by different internal configuration. This allow various different activity to be held in a singular space, without facing much hassle. Some of the activity proposed would be monthly garage sale events, Sunday’s market and recycling week where people from various background can participate in. The modular size of 1m increment ensures that each panel can easily be stored when unused.

SITE IDENTITY
This is a continuation of the first part of the project where the core space is further developed and extended through other spaces such as food testing spaces, event hall and sea life feeding area.
The challenges of this project is to design within and around the original site contours and condition, where there is a lot of traditional and cultural belongings left by the locals such a cabins, prayer area and flags.
As the building is design in a very crucial spaces, it then has to be able to benefits both the visitors while still taking care of the locals making a living there.
In the end, this building offers a very practical program, which is “Fish Ball Making Center” where the activity requires collaboration between both tourist and locals to run smoothly.

Multiple technique is combined to compose this collage activity, each representing different element that can be found on site. The use of origami method, salt, bubbles and food coloring working together creates a complete narrative of the site. In an essence, this collage narrated the story that the true beauty of the site is being restricted by the authority and law placed upon the local and their stalls which are the key player that makes the site lively.

Prior to the design of this sculpture, there are multiple sites being considered to place this sculpture to be appreciated by the pedestrian.
Some of it were, a public park surrounded by a lake, a mangrove sanctuary and a cave named ‘Gua Tempurung’.
All of these places are located in Pahang and is well known to be a tourist attraction.
Each site has their own unique strength and features that can be easily manipulated, but the chosen site is at the Gua Tempurung. This site has the natural gloomy and eerie feel to it that is perfect for the this sculpture’s placement.

Quarantine Activity- Hand Lettering & Typography Study
When the quarantine first being enforced, the 1 month break was very unsettling and filled with anxiety and uncertainty. This is especially true not just for me but for my studio mates as well. To our day to day activity more exiting, I decided to make a “One Day One Lettering Challenge”- where I would take a request from any of my friends to design a unique typography that represent;s their personality. At the end of this challenge, more than 20 custom typography were created, and I get to sharpen my design and artistic skills. Each of these artworks are illustrated on a 300gsm watercolor paper using mixed media such as watercolor, markers and pencil color.

‘Inner Turmoil’ - Watercolor Painting
The idea for this painting is sparked when I lost a public speaking competition for the first time during my high school year. The drive home was extremely painful as I am expected to take the loss maturely, but the pain of loosing something that you have trained so much for is not easy to let go.
Thus, this painting metaphorically illustrates the numbness that someone can feel despite the calm and composed exterior that they presented. The glass pieces breaking of the body is a representation of the fragility of someone’s conscience in trying told everything in together.
Being compassionate and understanding is the best options as the persona is taking her time to heal and learn from the experience.
