THE RESEARCH BEHIND IT

THE RESEARCH BEHIND IT

Fantasy to reality cookbooks — childhood stories and characters, sci-fi movies, apocalypse, supernatural and many more.

Local cookbooks and other countries’ cookbooks where every countries’ culture are reflected in their cookbooks.

THE RESEARCH BEHIND IT

THE PROCESS BEHIND IT Imagine the living dead meets singaporean dishes. Wonder how one would cook it? Or even wonder how would they consume them? What would the ingredients and method be? The three characteristics of my concept are imagination meets irony and gross.

THE PROCESS BEHIND IT

How would a zombie cook our local dishes? Knowing that their taste buds are different from us, what changes do they make to our favourite local dishes in order to suit their own food preference?

PHOTOGRAPHY

ANOTHER SINGAPORE | A HIDDEN PROFESSION To tell a story through documentation using a series of photographs or a short film. The subject of photos should be showing viewers an “unseen” side of the city. The subject could be either a person, a group or a place. The photographs or film video has to be edited to black and white and provide subtitles for video while captions for photo series.

THE RESEARCH BEHIND IT

THE RESEARCH BEHIND IT

Examples of “unseen” Singapore done by others where they tackled on foreign workers and red light district. They uncover and share the hidden sides of them such as the ‘behind the scenes’ to the newcomer ladies working at the Red Light District and how the process works as well as the other life of the foreign workers when they are not working at construction sites.

THE PROCESS BEHIND IT I got the subject, ‘Black Magic’ from brainstorming but it is a profession that is very hidden in Singapore. Hence, the subject may be quite hard to shoot since they do not expose openly and it is usually known through connections or word of mouth. I thought to myself, how about the opposite of black magic? A traditional healing man.

Who is this traditional healing man? My aunt’s father in law, whom we call, Pak Atan, helps to cure people with unknown sickness or under black magic spells through traditional treatments — using Qur’an verses, herbs and minerals.

THE PROCESS BEHIND IT

How would I find a traditional healing man? It was lucky of me to have connections with one of them — my aunt’s father in law.

Another Singapore: A Hidden Profession is a photo series that documents a traditional malay healing man, Pak Atan, who has been practicing traditional healing methods and treating people with his medicinal treatments for over 70 years. Pak Atan picked up this profession since he was 19 years old and his devotion to the job led him to commit till today, even in modern day Singapore where professional doctors and modern medicine are people’s first choice to getting cured. Many have thoughts and beliefs that these traditional treatments are associated with black magic, witchcrafts and worshipping the devils even till today. However, this photo documentary might give people a new perspective and provide answers to people’s beliefs. With little or few traditional practitioners like Pak Atan left in Singapore, this photo series hopes to share with everyone on a hidden profession that are not seen on a daily basis which may be a new discovery to some, to treasure and appreciate people like Pak Atan before this profession vanishes from Singapore completely.

DIGITAL CAMPAIGN

IS (SHARE IS A DITORTION OF ALTRUISM) | WHAT KIND ARE YOU? A project where it involves you to investigate and interrogate the chosen statement — Share Is A Distortion of Altruism, conducting tests, research, exploration and ideation. Use this material as the source material for a ‘book’ that you will design and produce as an outcome to this project. This latter part should only be done in the final week of the project.

THE PROCESS BEHIND IT What have I observed on social media? Are there any new behaviours? Recent social media trends?

Instagram Story Q&A templates are one of the recent trends. Users just need to screenshot the template and repost on their instastory with their answers. Seems like a way for followers to get to know about one another. Perhaps, some users secretly had an intention of bragging and indirectly trying to let followers know of the unknown/mundane information that would have come off as “bragging if they were to share verbally.

THE PROCESS BEHIND IT

THE PROCESS BEHIND IT An instagram movement that involves the audience to carry out the action of “share on social media, without them knowing of the clickbait behind the movement.

THE PROCESS BEHIND IT

Action: Posting, reposting, hashtag, tagging people.

Types of Altruism: Goodwill, kindness, generosity, charity.

Hence, the glitch effect.

WORK IN PROGRESS Coming up next are my work-in-progress projects that I grew fond of and would love to continue to rework on them. Interested to know more about their process, feel free to drop by for a chat or email me at: iamnadiahrozali@gmail.com.

This is regarding the rise of the robots and technology in Singapore that affects the society (human race) even further than it has already done before. A digital book that spells out the implications of an A.I centered dystopian life in Singapore using a poem narrative. The book takes readers deep inside the digital universe of a phone — a technology that we are all very fond of.

Hello, I am Nadiah, a budding Creative Designer and has a habit of making puns — although, this habit plays a part in influencing my design style where I tend to come up with catchy phrases or work titles that leaves an impression in peoples’ mind. A little humor, never hurt sometimes.

Currently, a fresh graduate from Singapore Institute of Technology (Glasgow School of Art) with a Ba(Hons) in Communication Design. Previously, graduated from Temasek Polytechnic, Diploma in Interactive Media Design in 2016.

Books, films, social media and the Internet are my sources of inspirations. Loves to take on various different projects briefs for a more fun and challenging experience and conceptualisation — in turn, more opportunity to learn new skills and knowledge in the design world.
