The building serve s as a central hub for student life . And it help s to c onnect the re sidential area to the academic buildings.The building is de signED to house different programs, c omputer l ab, dining hall , c offee shop, meeting space s, bookstore , AND post office .

MATERIAL

Design by Rem Koolhaas in 1997 ➢ This single-story building was completed and open in 2003. ➢ P r e v i o u s ly t h e s i t e was used as a parking lot with train track pa s s i n g t h r o u g h i t.

➢ P r e v i o u s ly t h e site was used as a parking lot with train track passing t h r o u g h i t. ➢ One of the major challenges during the design process was the noise from the train passing over the site. ➢ The solution was to design a sound prof tube around the track, this will help to reduce the noise in the building. ➢ The entire support system for the tube is separated from the building to reduce vibration and noise.

I M AG I N IT IVE SE CT ION For our imaginative section we focused on hybridizing different programs while creating vertical and horizontal circulation. We made sure everything worked correctly even while partially submerged in water. The section consists of the Ponte Vecchio bridge, Le Bon Marche, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, and a Ship docking yard. Imitating the McCormick Tribune Campus Center section cut with the elevated train, our imaginative section attempts to create the same sense of movement.

Transitioning from the housing programs to the dock yard and into the underground museum

Our site sits near the panther island pavilion, the zip code is 76102 which covers all downtown Fort Worth.

The current population is close to 12,000 with a median income of 87,000. The population is expected to grow by 4.94% and the income by 1.76% by the year 2025.

In the zip code 76102 the majority of people drive to work while the second highest percentage of people bicycle or walk. With this information we implemented biking into our project, connecting bike lanes coming from different directions including downtown Fort Worth.

FLOOD PLAIN

One of the downsides of our site is the fact that it is located right on top of the flooding zone. To tackle this our building will be elevated, and the site will consist of a wetland zone acting as a buffer before reaching our building.

RECREATION / WILDLIFE

Some of the most popular activities around our site include fishing, hiking and kayaking. All of these activities are implemented into our project, funneling people from all around into our site.

While visiting our site some of the things we noticed was the vast parking lot, the existing pedestrian paths and the lack of accessibility from the other side of the river.

The first step was to outline the site.

Then we form the circulation pattern by extending the existing grid pattern, Then we offset the outline and give a constructed form, Then we push and pull different parts to create a form, Finally, we tried to create a cohesion design that is more suitable for the site by using some of, the existing component and methods.

STUDY MODEL AS A CONTINUATION OF THE PREVIOUS PROCESS WE HYBRIDIZED SPACE THROUGH THE INTERACTION OF A RAMP SYSTEM ON OUR STUDY MODEL IN ORDER TO EXPERIMENT WITH SUCH FORM. WE USED CARDBOARD AND BASSWOOD (TO IDENTIFY MAJOR GRID SECTORS) AND GENERAL FLOOR SLABS. ADDITIONALLY, WE MARKED CIRCULATION ON THE MODEL AS SUCH AN ELEMENT IS A MAJOR DESIGN ELEMENT DICTATING THE FORM.

While deciding on the materials of our project we focused on the movement of people throughout the day. This diagram showcases the flow of people among the different programs. Ranging from opaque to translucent, the decision of materials depended on the privacy of each program and the amount of time people spent while transitioning from space to space. The materials range from concrete and wood to aluminum and glass.

SECTION A

This section cuts through our building showcasing the different programs, the pedestrian bridge, the elevated bike track, the wetland zone and garden, and the underground circulation space. Similar to the imaginative section this section demonstrates how our project hybridizes the different programs while allowing for easy circulation.

SECTION B

This section cuts through the river and the pedestrian bridge showcasing the wetland zone and how the building connects to the river. Along the riverfront the existing pedestrian paths are now elevated to maintain the walkability, but also allow the water to flow easily whenever it floods.

The wetland will act as a buffer retaining and filtering the water as much as possible before reaching the building.
