The Everything Outdoor Fest Chases the Covid Blues Away

When I think back to March 13, 2020, I feel some PTSD. It is real. This was the day we were told we couldn’t move into the Savannah Convention Center for our Boat Show, which was sold out of exhibit space and ready to go. That year, we had 5 successful boat shows on the southeastern coast and things were booming. Until they weren’t. Hard stop.

We dealt with the loss, the fear, the unknown like so many small businesses. We called each other, we drank too much wine, beer, etc. We took endless walks to fill our time, and if you’re JBM, we started a brand-new show. When no shows were allowed to be held and no one knew when the end would come, or how that would define our industry I decided to do what I knew how to do and that was to create a show. I wanted to do it to keep me and my small team from going crazy and sinking into a depression. I also needed to do it to survive, not knowing if some of my long-term shows would come back. But my primary reason was because I saw an opportunity. I live in Greenville South Carolina—a

beautiful city that seems to be making it on a lot of “great places to live” lists. We are located miles from the North Carolina Mountains, one hour from Ashville, two hours from Atlanta and from Charlotte. Greenville has become known as one of the best cycling locations in the country, and we have pro cyclists moving here from all over. We have the Blue Ridge Mountains, lakes, streams, and some of the best hiking trails in the country. I had an idea for a show, but it needed to be outside, and it had to have a lot of space, trails, and a body of water. I found Historic Hopkins Farm just 30 miles outside of Greenville. That is when Everything Outdoor Fest was born. This event is not your typical consumer show because it’s more experiential than sales oriented. During the pandemic it became clear that the outdoor industry was not slowing down. People craved the outdoors where they could connect with people safely. Many bought boats, rv’s, bikes, ATV’s etc. for their outdoor pleasure.

The Everything Outdoor Fest is a 3-day festival bringing together ALL outdoor enthusiasts at Historic Hopkins Farm, the perfect location to showcase outdoor activities in their natural setting. From fishing and cycling, off-roading and camping and hiking, there will be something for everything sharing passion for life outside of four walls. www.EverythingOutdoorFest.com.

The event is set up in 4 villages including Dirt, Water, Road, and Power. There will be REI clinics on mountain biking, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding. Clinics on camping and hiking and cycling, Experts teaching fly casting, kids’ fishing clinics, scavenger hunts and dog activities. There is also a gear and goods exhibitor village, music, food, and endless things to discover. My hope is that attendees will be blown away with things they learn and experience. They will have a great time with friends and family and want to come back every year. My other hope is that it becomes easier to sell exhibit space and sponsorships and for the love of God, no more pandemics, or other Acts of God…. please.

NACS Event Insurance Program Renewed

The NACS Insurance Program has been renewed with HCC Specialty for another year, effective August 2022, and will continue to be administered by JD Fulwiler & Co. Insurance. Since November of 2021, JD Fulwiler has helped place event coverage through the NACS program for more than 75 consumer shows produced by NACS members taking place all across the United States. In addition to these general liability event policies, we have helped NACS members with cancellation coverages and other insurance needs outside of the program.

The event insurance market has become tougher in post-covid times. Many insurance carriers have adapted stricter underwriting guidelines and increased rates, and some have stopped offering event coverages all together. While the NACS program carrier has implemented some new underwriting guidelines we are pleased that the NACS insurance program rates have remained competitive.

JD Fulwiler has been proud to partner with HCC Specialty to offer this program to members and looks forward to continuing to help with members coverage needs in the future.
